I got a letter today (in Boston) saying I'm on the list of alternates for the Bassett program. It says the decision is independent of the decision about the regular P&S program. So... does anyone know how many people Bassett or P&S might take from the Bassett alternate list? Or how many people might be on the alternate list?? 😕

Good luck everyone!! :xf:

Hey all!

Just a quick update. Seems as though the rejection notices for interviewed prospectives will be mailed, not emailed. Additionally, the last of the wait-list letters will be sent out tomorrow.

Hope that's informative at least.

Accepted today!! Thank for al the info , it really helped with this madness...!!!

Just a reminder to everyone that USPS is not a perfect system...as someone said earlier, last year there was a guy in NYC who received his acceptance several days after everyone else!

So don't give up hope just because you're in Minnesota and people in Cali are getting their letters already! 😀😀 (I say this as someone in Minnesota who is giving up hope because people in Cali are getting their letters already)

ahhh. a very unhelpful post for those who want to remain sane!

i had already made my peace with getting waitlisted, but here you come and dash away my dreams of a night without tossing and turning =]

Well said! It ain't over until a decision comes in the mail...made a pact with myself to only check my campus box twice tomorrow.... Reaaallly don't want to wait till after spring break next week to find out...

Yeah, that and I think the fact that post-interview rejections are going out via snail mail has kept me from flying off the handle. I was freaking out yesterday when I didn't get any mail and thought rejections would be emailed, but I guess it really just means that a decision letter hasn't arrived yet... I hope.

Yeah the USPS can be like that. If only someone thought to invent a system which let you send mail electronically, maybe people would be able to send important news through that, and it would arrive instantly and reliably regardless of distance...

oh wait.

I lol'd.

Hopefully the package has arrived at my house and my parents let me know what the result is... :scared:

haha i love you sir.

got the waitlist letter saying I'm very highly ranked (in upstate NY). just to preemptively stem the flow of questions about the difference between very highly ranked and highly ranked, last year's thread basically made it seem like there is a slight difference, but being proactive and making sure columbia knows that you're really interested is what really matters.

good luck people

So allow me to propose a theory. Feel free to shoot it down.

On Wednesday, only NYC folks seemed to get their acceptances. Yesterday, that fanned out to the whole country.

Yesterday, do we know of any rejections/waitlists outside of NYC? If not, I'm afraid that those of us with those statuses will be getting the mail today (and hopefully some holdover acceptances will arrive, too!).

Thoughts?

And before I get the "Troll" label, I'm one of the ones outside of NYC waiting for some mail. I might be a pessimist, but I'm not a troll!

Also, any word on second look weekend for Columbia?

Based on last year's thread, it seemed like there was really one waitlist letter, but that one place in the letter said "very highly ranked" and another place in the same letter said "highly ranked."

If anyone wants to start the guessing whether there are different waitlist letters out there, they should really do it by posting the full text of the letter they received, and anyone else can post if theirs does not match exactly. Not doing this last year seemed to cause confusion and rumors.

reeeeeeeeejected!

today
post interview
boston
snail mail (regular envelope)
3/2 postmark

congrats to everyone who got accepted. good luck to those on waitlist and those who haven't heard yet. looks like im done with this thread.

its been fun

OK, I'm totally driving to my parents' house today to check the damn mail.

Hey all!

There is only one wait-list letter. Any differences you might see are probably non-existant, and certainly insignificant.

Revisit will be April 14th and 15th and I HIGHLY recommend attending. It is such a blast! You really get to know the school and your future peers better on those days.

I will pass along the frustration that mailed decisions causes and hopefully there will be an electronic notification system in place for next year... We'll see...

Hope that's helpful! Good luck and don't forget to join the Facebook group if you get good news!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Boston too...

Arrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhshfsfgfgskgjf.

I just got a horrible papercut. Hopefully I don't find a rejection letter in my mailbox later today. 🙁

This has the potential to be either a very good weekend or a very sad weekend.

Plan for the weekend

If i get accepted I celebrate
If i get rejected i might have a few
If i get waitlisted I will stay in and write an update letter

No Columbia mail today. That's weird.

No mail yesterday and I thought rejection or wait list for sure. Now I don't know!

But didnt they send all acceptances via priority mail, which is guaranteed 1-3 business days?

Priority Mail and first class mail are both 1-3 days neither are guaranteed. It really is a waste of money sending stuff priority but it does look better. I checked the usps website.

It was said earlier that waitlists are being mailed out through today. If we can assume rejections went out in one batch, I'd assume that no news today probably means a waitlist. Just my interpretation of the data. 😉

For clarification, are waitlist letters being sent electronically?

Acceptance package has a page with info on second look, sorry do not have with me now...

Email or snail?

So the original info was wrong? ALL letters (yea, nay, waitlist) are snail mail letters?

Acceptances, waitlists, and post-interview rejections are being mailed (and acceptances are by priority mail).

Pre-interview rejections are being emailed.

Here's the info.

As both the guy who said the thing about the USPS and someone from Minnesota I feel the unfortunate duty to inform you that your envelope whatever its contents will likely arrive after everyone else's as this is what happened to me last year. Minnesota does a lot of things well, but receiving mail from NYC isn't one of them. 🙂

Same here. Got mail today, nothing from Columbia. I'm in the midwest, so maybe tomorrow I guess if they still haven't sent out all the waitlists. Or rejections. Priority is 2-3 days guaranteed, but as many have said, its USPS. could be longer without a doubt. But also realize that not all the waitlists/rejections were mailed with the acceptances and not even necessarily the day after. Waiting is so awesome.

Nothing from Columbia here at my perm. address in a small town in California. I am now assuming WL at best.

Mail came today and nothing here either. Bummersville.

To those who have been accepted, did you write a letter of intent post-interview?

I'm not accepted (it would seem), but I wrote one.

Same boat, only I didn't actually send mine. School costs so much, for me, it's tough to write something like that even if I would attend if accepted.

Are you just saying that to make me feel better about not getting a letter yet? 😛
