Any recent interview invites? Or the guy that said he was told on December 14th the last batch of interview invites were being sent later that day was correct? If so, it's fairly inaccurate of them to say interviews will be going out until mid January everywhere on their website...

That Dec 14th date doesnt seem right. I got an invite sometime before Xmas.

Someone want to just call and ask when interview invites end?

I called earlier n they said my app was currently under review...I completed end of October ! Argh, looks like there's still hope ...

complete 10/19, they said i should hear back before the end of Jan if i get an interview invite. Fingers crossed 😕

Hi SDNers,

To those who interviewed for HST, could you maybe provide some feedback about your interview day? Was your panel interview friendly? A grilling? Did they ask detailed questions about your research, etc? Any interview topics that were out of the ordinary?

Best,

YY

What really does it take to get into Harvard Med?

Naive hs junior here.

Haha why am I such a prestige *****?

I really like to live my life by "work hard" and "let the cards fall as they do."

But it's hard. I want to go to a school most people recognize. Everyone knows Harvard.

I live in a world where people don't that schools like UCLA, Northwestern, UMich, Duke, etc. are good schools. But that doesn't matter to me as much. But I still do want Harvard...

What kind of world do you live in???

Haha I remember telling my friend I wanted to go to UCLA and she's like "ew no, go to an Ivy."

She didn't get that UCLA is a good school.

Anyone in the US who has half a brain knows that UMich, Northwestern, Duke, UCLA are good...actually...ELITE schools, and especially for medical schools.

Heck, this past summer I worked abroad with people who never even went to school their whole lives (they can't even multiple 3X4) and even THEY knew that UCLA hospital was among the best in the world.

You're actually kidding me? I'm from NY and when I tell people I want to go to UCLA, they give me strange looks.

I was even curious about doing 1-2 years at Stony Brook & then attempting to transfer to UCLA. But Idk yet.

Btw, thanks for all the help.

It sounds like you shouldn't be too worried about your friends' impressions. In fact, never let the opinions of others drive your decisions. According to your friends, I'm an idiot for choosing UCLA over Columbia a few years back. Just be true to yourself and your needs.

Best of luck with your remaining time in high school and with college. There are a lot of SDN threads devoted elsewhere to high school and college preparation. It would probably be best if you moved on to those forums or PMed specific individuals.

How the heck do people get 40s on MCATs? Should I start preparing spring of senior year?

Also, what courses do most premeds take? Is it important to take the "most challening?"

How people know what's challenging or not? College courses don't have the distinction of "honors" or "AP" like hs courses do.

Sorry, I'm a noob. Can you link me to these specific threads?

My friend would think you were out of your mind. I'm from NY - I'd pick UCLA over Columbia any day.

Haha jesus christ dwater chill the f out. You remind me of the annoying, arrogant undergrads from harvard I've met on the interview trail.

Not a problem. It's just that these threads are reserved for those currently applying to the specific schools - and the topics are therefore focused on issues concerning the school in the thread title.

Every thread you could imagine can be found here. You can search these threads for specific topics, too. Explore at your own risk - many SDNers can be certifiably loco when it comes to pre-med issues so don't get swayed by everything you read.

Fortunately, my friends in North Carolina understand that UCLA is a great, great school and they appreciate the feat of being admitted OOS. Once I visited the schools and talked to current students, 'brand' and name recognition quickly took a back seat. I was fortunate to have that decision to make, though. Again, just be true to your interests and gut feelings.

Thanks -_- Haha. I'm a neurotic hs junior. What can I say? Also it's my first day on SDN.

then please take your neuroses to the appropriate subfora and leave these threads for the people they're meant for, the current applicants. thanks.

Dumb question as I'm preparing to go to my interview ... is there coat check? I kind of ... have to take my luggage with me and go to the airport right afterwards. Dragging my suitcase into the interview room seems rather inappropriate.

there is a place where you can leave all that

Just wanted to stop by to wish :luck:GOOD LUCK:luck: to all those waiting to hear. It's not over till it's over...Hopefully, I'll see some of you in the near future 👍

If the decision i get is unfavorable, the first thing I will do is go to SDN and look at your avatar. Only then will I truly know that everything is still going to be OK.

I got an invite Friday the 14th. Available dates were Jan 25, 27, 28, 29, Feb 1. I was complete early November.

Congrats on the interview! I didn't get the email confirming I was complete until Dec 10th...I assume they are closed today for MLK but my fingers are crossed for a miracle tomorrow 🙁

Oh man thats great news! I wasn't going to apply there until I got a letter from them saying I should. I assumed they send this to many people but I was like might as well, so I didn't complete it till late winter. Now I kinda really want to go, crazy how time changes your mind.

same here- received a letter, so I applied just before the deadline. I called today to ask when the last interview invitations would be emailed out and was told that there are a few more going out this week. After this Friday, no more...

I've got my hopes up too...know what your feeling.

hey, i'm interviewing here on january 27.

any other interviewees want to check out boston or meet up for dinner?

pm me if you're down.

good luck everyone!

does anyone know when they'll be releasing final decisions? i know it's in march, but did they tell anyone more specifics?

On my interview day they said they were aiming for March 1st.

Last year most decisions were on the 15th.

Just have to wait and see :luck:
