Hi IDoctor23, they do send you a complete email. I suggest that you call the office to check on that, just in case they forgot to send you a confirmation email! 🙂 Good Luck!

Hi doctordang! Thanks for the info from ms. Walk. I sent an e-mail to her at the beginning of the week updating her on what I'm doing ad well as praising the school and stating how I would be a good fit. Hopefully it would make the adcom look at me again and consider granting me an interview. Thanks for the good vibes and if I get an invite, I'll make sure to try to get Jan 12th😉!

Hello everyone, I'm from the class of 2014 here at Howard and thought about checking out this thread while I talked to some applicants that came by the anatomy lab the other day... It feels strange being on the other side now lol It's stressful times being an applicant so stay positive! Feel free to message me if anyone has any questions about the school. 🙂

I am still waiting to hear back from Ms. Walk, do you recommend i send her another email or call her...... the part that i am iffy with is at what point do the emails and phone calls start annoying the admissions office 🙄

I think Ms.Walk receives many emails Agaye. I think if you have to, calling the office is better to check on your status. But I think waiting patiently is a good idea too. Hope that helps!

I didn't really send a LOI but I did send Ms. Walk a short message. I sent this message before this "LOI" topic showed up on this forum. I don't know if it was helpful, but it made me feel good knowing that I was able to share how I feel about Howard with Ms. Walk. Hope that helps! 😉

Hi guys!

Right now I'm making plans for the interview trip and would like some suggestions 🙂
I'm flying in from the Dulles Airport, does anyone know what is the easiest and cheapest way to get to Howard or near Howard?
Ms. Walk said the interview should finished around 3PM, however I have a flight back home at 3:55PM, will ~50 minutes enough to get to the Dulles Airport from Howard? Thank you!

Hey Dr. Dang

From my experience in DC, no way will you get to Dulles in time for your flight. Especially with the new more strict security. I suggest you change your flight to 6pm atleast to make it if the interview lets out at 3pm. Or if you change airports to DCA, which is much closer, you could probably make a 5pm flight.

Dullus!? no way possible to get from howard to dullus in 50 min, even with no traffic

Sorry doctordang. Dulles is way too far for u to make it from HU in 50 min. Even if u made it to the airport 50 min prior to your departure, I doubt you would make the flight since it is an international airport and the security there is crazy strict. Your best bet is to either change your flight to Reagan which is a national airport (no international flights, less traffic), bordering the district, and metro accessible. If you can't change airports, you need to push your flight from Dulles way back because not only will you be delayed once you get there due to security and traffic (it is a huge airport) but it's also gonna be a hustle trying to make it to Dulles cus there is no convenient public transportation (it's in Virginia) and the rush hour may kick in. I would recommend pushing your flight to around 6 or 7 pm so you will have some wiggle room. Trust me, I've flown from Dulles and Reagan (alot!) so bottom line, go with Reagan (and push the flight a bit there cus 50 min is still cutting it close!) if you can! Good luck doctordang!

Thank you everyone for the info!
I guess I'll just have to change my airline, from Southwest to Jetblue! Jetblue has Reagan airport, Southwest only has BWI and Dulles airport!

Doctor Dang, if you change your flight and are still worried about time, be sure to get to the interview early, as interview times are handed out on a first come, first serve basis. Get there well before 8:00, have a morning interview and leave after that if you need to-you're not obligated to stay after your interview, but you'll miss presentations if you go. pros and cons...

Yup, I changed my flight. I definitely want to stay throughout the whole thing, but I will try to make it there early too 🙂 Miss Dee Dee, did you interview early or later in the day? Which one do you think is better? 🙂 thanks!

i've done both (re-applicant) and i liked the later slot better. i got to see all the presentations and it gave me something to talk about with my interviewer. on the flipside, going earlier means you can enjoy the day without being nervous the whole time.

Hi, I was thinkin about doing LOI but i wasn't sure how formal i should make it. Can you tell me how you had your layout when emailing Ms. Walk. I got the complete email on Nov 9th....haven't heard anything yet.....:scared: is it too soon to send the LOI? I am really stressing out and loosing my hope...
Thank you!!

Hi, nepalidr!
So, keep in mind that my e-mail was also an update. First paragraph was just saying who I was and also reminding Ms. Walk that we had met twice previously etc. (two sentences)
Second paragraph was my update, details about the research etc (prolly 4/5 sentences)
Third paragraph was basically going back to my amcas and personal statement and highlighting why I want to go to Howard and how it is my first choice, how i'm crazy about it (2/3 sentences) etc.
Closed wishing happy holidays etc.

BUT 😱.... I talked to Ms. Walk last week to see if she got the e-mail and she basically said it was too long and she didn't read it the first time she got it (in fact, she said she was gonna reply "too long. did not read". So, I don't know what length is appropriate. But I made sure she got the information I wanted her to get and I reiterated my love for the school to her directly ....

Good luck, hope this helped!

Oh, just realized I didn't answer the other question. If you completed Nov 9th, I would think it is prolly too soon to send in an LOI. It's just been a month and most schools I think need more than 6 weeks before they get back to you. But I would also say do what you feel is good for you. If you think it will help right now as opposed to in a couple of weeks or so, go for it.

When writing a LOI, I strongly believe that less is more. Hit the main points concerning what has changed about your application (recent classes, updated MCAT etc), reiterate what you have done since submitting your applications that reaffirms your desire to attend Howard and how it relates to the mission.

Short paragraphs are better than long ones. Just think if you had to read 100+ of these every day. Be sure to spell check.

I emailed a LOI toward the end of last week and received a response back today.

Amcas verified on July 31st
Secondary received email on sept 12th
Undergrad committee letter received oct 12th

Pretty much screwed over by the late letter from my undergrad bc it arrived later than I had planned😡. What about you? What was your timeline?

When did you guys interview and did the acceptances come via email? For some reason I do not get emails from Howard 🙁.

Congrats to buddahbelly and klassikmd!!👍
