Yes, I did walk from the Inn to Howard the day of the interview. It really wasn't that bad of a walk only about 10 minutes. The day before the interview, I walked around Howard and figured out exactly where the School of Medicine was located, so I wouldn't be worried about getting lost on interview day. I don't remember exactly what time I left, but I do remember leaving my room around 7:30 to inquire about breakfast, then leisurely eating breakfast and talking to the owner and another student, who was also interviewing and happened to stay at the Inn that night. We probably left around 7:50ish and got there a little after 8am. It worked out because we both ended up with afternoon interviews and didn't have to miss any of the information presented before lunch and the tour. I hope this helps and good luck!!!!

How long does it take for them to confirm your date? I received the invite email and I replied Monday night with the preferences I want, so now I'm waiting on the actual day they'll give me. I got a nervous excitement feeling, this will be my first interview...

It took Ms. Walk about a day to reply back to me with her confirmation on my interview date. It is the holiday season, so it is probably going to take her a little bit longer. No worries though. Congrats on your interview. You're going to LOVE Howard!!!

Yup, it took about 1 day for Ms. Walk to confirm with me too. This will be my first interview also!! So excited!! I don't think we will be interviewing on the same day because she usually notifies 3-4 weeks ahead. However, good luck with your interview! you will rock it! 😀

Hey, serious7. Yep, I did apply to a couple of other schools in the area (dc,md) and I'm on pre-interview hold for them. However, I'm not putting as much effort into getting in the other schools like I am for Howard. I would really like to stay in that area and go to medical school there (I currently am involved in literacy and nutrition programs in a community health center really close to Howard). Anyway, wish me luck!

That makes sense being around the holidays. But what I thought was weird is that I received the email invite Monday the 27th... Two days after Xmas. I was for sure no one would be working there until the spring semester started back up, especially after the holiday greetings email they sent out. I just hope they didn't send the email on accident!!!

Preciate it. My primary was completed 10/22 and my secondary was completed 11/18. Everything went a lil faster than what I originally thought it would, but the wait was still killing me. Hang in there, you'll get your shot as well, and I'm sure you'll do fine! Are you still in school or have you graduated?

Thanks bjb0403. I graduated from my masters program in August and I'm currently doing research and volunteering in dc. I REALLY want to get into Howard!! Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh, ok. If you've got your masters, I'm sure you'll get an interview, just a matter of time. But the waiting does suck, i'll admit. You seem like you're familiar with the DC area. I'm thinking about staying in silver spring and riding the metro to the campus that day. What do you think? Would that be easy enough or to complicated?

I wouldn't recommend Silver for two reasons:
1. It's too far
2. You're gonna have to take the red line and connect to the green to get to HU and during rush hour in the morning, it's gonna be hectic and the red line is the most crowded and also very unpredictable compared to the rest

I would recommend anything near the stations along the green line, preferably within the District. I saw DoctorDang and KlassikMD mentioned a place that seemed like a ten min walk from HU so you might wanna check that out. But I would try to avoid the red line and if you must stay at Silver, make sure you get out of your place like a couple of hours earlier to be on the safe side. Hope you find something that suits you~

bjb0403! Congratz on your interview! It seems like you'll be interviewing 1 day ahead of me (mine is on Jan 12). I will be staying at the Bloomingdale Inn. I heard good things about it. You should check it out! It's about 10 min away from Howard by walking 🙂. Good luck!

yay bloomingdale! that whole area gives me design-gasms. i love old cities... 😍

if you are relaxed and confident during you interview, it will be great. it's not a high-stress situation. some of us have already talked about it earlier in the thread.

SN, i'm almost official. my deposit is flying through the air as we speak.

at cantgiveup, I'm not exactly sure but I think Howard's white coat ceremony is some time in July.

last year's was aug 6, and they started july 21. Dunno what the dates are this year but i bet it's not far from that.

So its funny I don't hear of many kids going to Howard from my school..Why is that? I know htey accept mostly minorities but most kids at my school are minorities?

What are my chances of getting accepted?

-I am Indian (from India)
-3.74 overall gpa, 3.6ish science
-Have research experience
-currently a Medical scribe.
-MCATs idk yet, take them in april (i'm applying this summer)

..If anyone is willing to help me on this let me know! Also, if you want to PM me your stats and background taht would be awesome.. Since it's for howard can you include your ethinicty with your stats too..lol

Hi, SG3! Welcome to the thread. I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability. Howard states that in order to be competitive, an applicant should:
(1) have a science GPA of 3.0 or above, (2) have an MCAT score of 22 or above, (3) have a history of work/volunteer experience with underserved populations.

While all three are all important factors, I think having a background of work in underserved communities is essential. I believe Howard wants to recruit individuals who would serve such communities once their medical education is complete. So you (or anyone else wanting to go to Howard) should ask yourself if you meet the requirements and have a passion for serving underserved populations. I hope this helped and I wish you all the best!
 
For those of you seeking an entertainment for the day, look no further b/c I had the weirdest dream last night:

I end up going to HU for an interview, I look at myself and I am wearing skinny jeans with holes at the knees 😱😱! I start freaking out, and then I notice everyone else there for the interview is dressed just like me... sigh of relief!

I then am directed to this huge room with many tables, each with one person sitting... these people are notable scientists, humanitarians, entertainers... they are there to judge me and cast their votes!

I make it through to the next round... a field filled with current HU students... there to judge me again.. I have to walk through the field while everyone is judging me... I smile nervously walking through.. i make it to the end...

Final round: Tyra Banks is there, about to announce if I am America's Next Howard Student (or something like that, I don't remember)...

I wake up before I find out whether I won or not!!

If this isn't weird, I don't know what is!! I hope you all found this entertaining. Happy Friday!🙂
 
Well Beeweew, I must say that was a very interesting dream. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who has random dreams and thoughts about this crazy application process!!! 🙂 Entering into medical school is not only taking over our waking life, its taking over our dreams as well!!! lol

I can't wait for the day that we have random dreams about med school lectures filled with random celebrities in evening gowns and Dr. Oz is the lecturer for the day!!😍😍😍

I am so happy I can barely contain myself!!!

I think I am about to explode out of pure happiness ( I am at work though...such a challenge!!)

... I'm gonna pinch myself again to make sure this isn't part of the dream I just had last night!!!

I called Ms. Walk yesterday and she said I should be going to Committee in about a week. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope I hear good news! I LOVE Howard ! =]
