Hey, QueensFinest. It's great to hear from you. Thank you for the good vibes. I hope everything is going well for you. You've probably gotten the packet by now but I just wanted to say what's up and respond to your message. If you haven't gotten the packet yet, you should call Ms. Walk because you're in NY so I think you should have gotten it by now.

Hey, what's up everyone? I hope everyone is doing well. QueensFinest, to answer your question, I just got the financial aid/ decision letter yesterday. I'm going to fill all that out and send it in this weekend.

Sorry I've been MIA you guys, my University tries to kill us before Spring break- which is next week!!!

Voyager, I can definitely relate bcuz I feel like my school is doing the same thing to me 😱

hey all! has anyone who's submitted the financial aid forms gotten any word on that yet?

I live in Maryland, not so far from DC. In fact I work in DC but the commute is around 1.5 hours every morning and same for the evening commute (I use the metro). If I get into HU though I'll def move to the city or at least much closer!

3hrs?! OMG you must have impeccable patience! 👍

Miss Dee Dee, did you send by mail or fax?
If you didn't hear anything yet, you should try calling to make sure!
I will turn in my financial aid form tomorrow. Will let you know later if I hear anything! 🙂

Hey there DoctorDang! The school work is definitely keeping me occupied; it's not too difficult, but just a lot of busy-work. I definitely can't wait for Spring break!

How's your semester/quarter going?

Hey there!

I submitted probably a month and a half ago via mail and I have had heard nothing. From my experience (snooping around other threads ) most schools release your financial award in March or April.

I am hoping for something soon👍

Lol!! Yep, patient I definitely am but it also helps that I have books to keep me company 😉😀😀

Hi Beeweew! So on your long transits, do you read your books old-school or on an ebook?

I never thought I'd use an ebook but I got a Sony ereader as a gift last summer and now I can't put it down...

Do you take the MARC train to and from? For the Howard interview, I flew into BWI airport (cheaper than Reagan) and took the MARC into DC. Not a bad commute..

Voyager, I can definitely relate bcuz I feel like my school is doing the same thing to me 😱

Hang in there Kaji! I know it's tough... I'm trying not to fall victim to the epidemiology of senioritis!

I feel pressured! I have to make a decision in 30 days from the date on the decision letter (which was sent 15 days ago apparently); however, I won't hear back from another school I interviewed at for another week or so. Further, I have an interview at UC San Diego that won't even happen until March 15th.

I wanted to compare financial aid packages and other details before deciding wholeheartedly on a school. Should I pay the 100 fee to hold my place in the freshman class and continue to wait to hear from the other colleges?

Advice? :scared:

You can ask Ms. Walk for an extension, I think she will allow until April 15th. But I'm not 100% sure so check with Ms. Walk~ 🙂 Good luck!

I'm currently attending UCSD! Let me know if you have any questions 😀

The quarter is going good so far~! lol trying not to let senoritis get to me... I know! Spring break is my favorite! I might take a road trip!
Any plans?🙂

What's up, Voyager! I'm one of the old school book junkies who loves the smell of old books (seriously, I'm in seventh heaven just smelling old books 😀) 🙂🙂 Unfortunately, though, I see more and more ppl on the metro reading on their kindles, nooks or some other e-reader and it makes me soooo sad because I realize we are leaving an era behind 🙁🙁. I'm not surprised you're hooked on your e-book... seriously, they look too tempting! Especially the number of books you can load on them... so if you already have one, why not? But it's def gonna take a revolution to turn me to them 😀

To answer your second question, I take the metro which is completely different from the MARC (I live all the way at the end of the red line). I believe the MARC is an inter-city connector while the metro covers DC and surrounding counties in MD and VA. So you probably took the MARC to Union Station and got on the metro to get to HU. I love the metro, though. It is such a savior from dealing with parking in DC. Cost of metro was significantly increased over the summer but thousands of people continue to use it because it is so convenient. I'm sure once you get here, you're gonna see what I'm talking about 😀😀

This is tough! Do you have a certain school you want to go to most or is everything dependent on the financial aid packages? Either way, though, it looks like you need an extension since you have the interview at UCSD. Good luck!! :xf:

Hey Beeweew! I definitely can't blame you for not wanting to switch over to e-books. I am the same way with respect to loving the smell of books... In fact, I recall stumbling across Freud's "The Interpretations of Dreams" publication in the Boston Public Library. It was old, rustic, dusty, obsolete, and smelled like another time in history- but the sensory experience of it all compelled me to read it.. So yea, that's definitely not the kind of experience that I get with an ebook..

...and yes, you're right- I took the MARC to Union street, however, I didn't take the metro- I walked from Union to Howard...😀, quite the hike. I definitely got to see how impoverished the community Howard serves truly is... a lot of work needs to be done in this nation for sure... Anyhow, I have yet to experience the DC metro, I've heard great things about it.

Good to hear that the semester is going well DoctorDang! And yes, avoid senioritis like the plague!

For Spring break I'll be reeeeecharging.. I need this vacation. It's been tough these past few weeks; not having any down time can be mentally taxing. So I'm going to pick up a few shifts on the ambulance, sleep, read, draw, and exercise... in no particular order.

Road trips are also niiiiiice. Have you figured where to?

What?! That must have been a LONG walk (and kudos to you because I remember it was raining the day we interviewed and you made it on time!) 😱😱

Wow. I was just reading last years HUCM forum (2009-2010 cycle or c/o 2014). Very informative, especially for those of you still waiting for interviews or about to be interviewed, you guys should def check it out! 😀

Yo, Kaji! How's the waiting going?? It's so quiet in here and I think it's just you and me on this forum waiting, friend. 😀

I'm sorry you guys are still waiting on some news... It's amazing that you both are able to keep it together so well..

And yes Beeweew, it was definitely a long walk. I arrived the evening before the interview so I had time to kill... I stopped at a couple of pubs and watched the State of the Union address.. It was kool knowing that it was happening live right down the street!

@ voyager-- I'm not 100% sure where yet...lol but i'll definitely let you know how it goes! 😀

Beeweew, i'm TOTALLY with you on this. not only do i love the smell of books, i love the feel of them, especially when you can tell they've been read over and over and the pages are falling out. i can spend hours in a bookstore, especially used bookstores where you really never know what is going to be in there from one week to the next. i fully intend to have one of those bookcases that spans an entire wall. 😍can't do that with a kindle. i mean i guess you could buy a wall full of kindles...

@ Beeweew & Miss Dee Dee- it's funny but I'm not a fan of the smell of old books lol! However, I do love the smell of Starbucks Coffee inside the bookstore (like inside Barnes and Noble)!

Good morning everyone!!

I just received an email from Ms. Walk saying they got my $$ 😀
FedEx (2-3 day shipping) is reliable!

AHHH!! You and me both!! I've always dreamed of having a room of those bookcases packed with books, walls of books!! I go to IKEA and drool over them sometimes 😀! Don't laugh but I loved the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast while growing up and I remember when the beast showed her his library, my jaw dropped :wow:!! It was incredible!! And I'll def give you some names of used book stores I frequent here in DC (if you have time to read in med school 🙂)

Hey what's up everyone!

Just wanted to drop by again and show some love and support. I've had a pretty eventful week and I am sure you all have as well. Stay strong everyone. I'm rooting for those of you still waiting to hear back--especially you Beeweew!

Oh, and I've been reading the Alchemist. I am almost done and that book is awesome!🙂

Hey, Whatupron! Thanks for the good vibes!! I'm dying to hear back ASAP. It's hard to believe but tomorrow is exactly one month since my interview 😱. It's incredible how I have survived this far with my anxiety 😀

Also, I'm glad you're enjoying the Alchemist! It's one of a kind for sure!

Hello everyone!

I've been following this thread for a very long time. I have only just now come out of the woodwork to post here. I was today honored to be selected to interview at Howard. Just from reading this thread and also the past years' threads, this school has really struck me as the right school for me. Everyone here is so supportive of each other and wishing everyone well unlike other schools' threads. A lot of people today believe in order to succeed, someone else must fail. You guys at Howard (both current and prospective students) are all about supporting each other and succeeding together. I think so much more could be accomplished if we were to be like this not only in medicine/medical school but in every aspect of life. I am really excited about interviewing here March 23rd and learning more about Howard and meeting the current students.

To all of you awaiting news of acceptance after interviewing, stay strong and keep the faith. If they didn't want you or didn't think you belong, they would not have interviewed you. And to those of you awaiting interviews, a miracle is on the way - just like my invite for interviewing today! It's way late in the game but I am still believing...
I sincerely hope all of you are successful wherever you might end up! For you all to reach this far, you have the character and self belief to succeed! Take care and God bless! 🙂

P.S.
Anyone else interviewing on the 23rd March?

I will finish school in mid-june, so I don't have a lot of free time before orientation. During that 1 month, I'll probably try my best to look for an apartment in DC and then clean and pack all my belongings and move! 😀

You guys! I just came back from watching the movie Unknown starring Liam Neeson and I just have to say that it is one of the best movies I've seen in a loooong time! Check it out if you have the time. Def worth the $ 😀

I have a similar situation. I am doing a directed study this summer that lasts until mid june.. I won't have much down time..
