2010-2011 Internship Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks, sorry yeah I noticed AFTER responding. I think my eyes are getting all messed up from reading this forum too much!

i did get an interview at woodhull, but it was really late last night, 1140 or so, i'm sure she still has more to send out as she asked in the email for us not to respond with an interview date until after today. good luck everyone!

Like the other 300 people on this forum (at least it feels that way) I am waiting on Woodhull too. I am also waiting on Hudson River, Kings County, and Geisinger. It's unfortunate that sites don't at least email saying that they will be delaying their decisions.

Have you heard from Giesinger yet? I still haven't, am considering a nice little email....

Has anyone heard anything (good or bad) from the following sites?

The Guidance Center in Long Beach, CA
Geisinger Medical Center (child track)
Children's Hospital of Orange County

Someone said that some folks had heard from Geisinger, but it is the 16th and I still have not heard...

Hi Hoping2Match, did you get an wait listed letter or a rejection letter? They mentioned they can't offer me an interview at this time but will contact me if they have a cancellation...

I got the same email as that, but it was definitely addressed "Dear Intern Applicant..."

I'm not holding my breath...

Anybody contacting Trinitas for their post deadline decisions?

I'm waiting on Trinitas also. I just emailed my advisor regarding contacting sites post interview notification date. She has been my program's internship coordinator for many years and knows this process inside and out (which we think is a big reason we have had a 100% match rate for the past 5 years). I am happy to share her response once she gets back to me. In the meantime, I plan on holding off contacting sites until I hear from her.

I still have not heard anything from Howard University or Hudson River Regional. Hmmm.... Wondering how long I should wait before I call or e-mail.

Please do, I will love to hear what is the right move in regards to this. My program has a 100% match rate for the past 5 years as well, but our DCT is new (her second year) hope I am not the one that jinx that...

No I have not heard from them. Personally, I am going to wait till the end of the business day today. Then I am going to send an email saying:

Dear Site Director,

You have failed to meet the deadline for the notification of interview status. There have been many fine sites that I have submitted applications to and have sent their notifications. Unfortunately, I am unable to interview at all of the sites I apply to and must make difficult decisions regarding where to interview at. I would sincerely like to thank you for the time and effort you put into the application process; however, I am unable to accept an offer for an interview because you have not followed the suggested notification date. I wish you the best of luck in your search for an intern and with your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

TheIceman79

For those of us still waiting for Geisinger, there APPIC site says they notify by the 15th but their website says that they will notify internship application status by approximately December 15th. I don't know if I should email or not now...

Any thoughts?

That is AWESOME! Thank you, I am smiling now

Well put, Iceman.... I wish I had enough interview offers on the table to be able to say that. I guess I'll just call and kindly request the status of my application. 🙂

Still waiting on Hudson and UMDNJ but plan to give them through today. I really want interviews and don't want to lose my spot because I was being pushy (even if I would be technically right in doing so).

Also, I am now stalking my inbox waiting for something from either Trinitas or Hudson River Regional OR my advisor 🙂.

Waiting sucks!

I got an interview offer at Hudson River! 😀

Here's hoping y'all did too!

I still have not heard from Alexian Brothers and Hudson (like most of us here 😳..... I know that a lot of people have heard from Dutchess but I have not received any response from them. Should I call? help!

😛 YAY! Congrats Phdee! Hudson seems like a great site! Was it a phone call?

I'm curious about whether it is always seen as pushy to call or email early in the day today. Maybe you guys have gotten more advice in this area?

I didn't check the forum before calling my last site and leaving a message with the TD about an hour ago.... I hope I just seem enthusiastic!

I did a practicum at Alexian, and Dr. Fader has very little help with applications (unless she had someone this year) and is very busy, so I wouldn't necessarily think the worst of not hearing from there yet...

So are people emailing sites today if they haven't heard, is that the general consensous?

I didn't hear from LIJ Zucker (child) or mt. washington pediatric hospital and I haven't seen anyone else talk about not hearing from there...

I recognize that it's really stressful to not hear back from programs, but take a moment to consider the process from their end as well. They have tons of applicants and probably want to make sure that they put enough effort into reviewing each application. In addition, there are also potential issues with technology. What if they already emailed you and you for some reason didn't get the email? Call them - today - and check. Approximately Dec 15 means that the deadline is past and inquiring about your status is completely ok. And while I think the email above is well formulated, I know I detected an edge behind it. Unless you really have that many interviews, I'd reread it before sending it just to avoid any possible negative consequences (like not getting an interview after all despite them having planned on extending you an invite).

I heard from Mt. Washington last week (they said no)

Its a joke

Also, I am still waiting for Hudson. are they calling or emailing PHDEE?

IntStudent didn't get the joke.

Personally, I don't think it is funny because I could see someone send an email like that in the midst of being really anxious and stressed out. Sure, we've all received plenty of well formulated rejection emails the last few weeks and it might feel good to compose an email back rejecting a site that is late with notification. But that's only funny as long as no one does something that will have negative consequences on their chance of getting the interviews they want. My post was just a suggestion of caution and to remember to be assertive professionals during this period.

I know some others were still waiting to her from Ancora, just checking in to see if anyone had, I am still waiting too.

Here's my list in case it is helpful to anyone:
Pinecrest Support & Services Center in LA
& South LA Intern Consortium 👎
FCI Tallahassee 👎
Friends Hospital 👎
Mississippi State Hospital 👍 by phone
Allendale Association 👍 by email
Colorado MH/INST Forensic Pscyh 👎
Central CA Psych Intern Consortium (applied to 2 sites) Porterville Developmental Center 👎 and Valley State Prison for Women 👍 by email
Wisconsin Dept. of Corrections 👎
Nebraska Internship Consortium 👎

I still havent heard from Western Youth Services, Arizona Psychiatric Hospital and The Children's Assessment Center in Houston, I have heard back from some but not all the sites at AZ Psychology Consortium.

Good Luck to everyone!!

Random Person --

Are you still waiting on Ancora as well? I've been trying to reply to your post since last night and my wireless network was acting up. I got an interview with them last year very early on, like before Thanksgiving (yep, this is Round Two for me!). I think someone else (at least one person) on the forum got an interview way early on this year so I'm fully expecting a "no," though I'd like to hear something. Their notification date was yesterday as I'm sure you know. Hope you and anyone else patiiently (HA!) waiting for Hudson hears soon.

Yup...Still waiting for Ancora

Recieved a rejection from the Pacific Islands Health Care System Psychology Internship program in Honolulu that began with "Aloha." It's the nicest rejection I have received.

So I've heard from every site...I have one interview and a Plan B! This has definately been a learning process and if I have to do this again next year, I will be doing a few things differently. Due to all the insights I have gained, I'm happy that I participated this year and did not delay participating next year, falsely thinking I would put together a stonger application. Thanks to all of you for your support and feed back. I'm sending all of you good thoughts so you have successful interviews.

Yeah, I got the email . . . its kinda weird . . . I have three interviews . . . and two of them are exactly the same??? But they are all three tracks that I selected.

I know someone at UCSD, and they choose 5 people to interview per track. So, the ones listed you are being considered for and will be able to rank. I also have an interview there, but I'm only being interviewed for one combination of positions. Hope this helps.

Also, I haven't heard from The Children's Hospital Boston/Harvard Medical School and their notification date was yesterday. Anyone heard from them??

Yep, I heard from them on the 10th by email.

I've been lurking but decided to join in. I, too, am still waiting on Hudson River but just sent a very polite email asking if we didn't hear yesterday if we should assume that we were not offered interviews. I will let you know what they said. This is my list so far:
Interviews-
Florida State Hospital
Metropolitan Detention Center, LA
Pilgrim Psychiatric Center
Greystone Park Psychiatric Center
Arkansas Behavioral Health Services

"Passes" 🙂
Kings County Hospital
FMC, Lexington
US Medical Center for Federal Prisoners
FCC, Butner
FMC, Devens
Emory
NYU Bellevue- Forensic Track
River Valley Services in Conn.

Still waiting on Hudson River and Manhattan Psychiatric Center. Best of luck to everyone in this process and thanks for all the supportive, informative, and encouraging posts.

I am officially completely disoriented by this process. I just received my final rejection and their (likely cookie cutter) reasoning did not make sense. I should provide the disclaimer that I have 7 interviews that I am greatful for, but 6 rejections that make no sense. I come from a very focused clinical forensic PhD program, I have practicum experience in multiple forensic and nonforensic settings, I have 4 peer reviewed publications on forensic topics and six paper presentations at forensic conferences and collaboration on a book chapter focused on personality assessment in a forensic context, I am trained in the administration and interpretation of forensic measures, and have conducted numerous forensic assessments (under supervision). Yet, I get an email rejection from a site with a heavy forensic component stating "your experience and/or interests do not constitute a good fit with our program," and was rejected by 5 federal placements. Granted, I could have written very poor essays, but I had numerous people review them and say much to the contrary.

Maybe I am just looking for an ego boost, or a sign that the world does make sense. Any and all contributions to either cause are welcomed.

I know what you're saying. These emails are generic. YOC emailed me that I am not a good fit even though I have 2 pracs with adolescents, and worked in Juvenile corrections!?

Congratulations on 7 interviews though1

I also did well overall with interview numbers, but had several rejections. I can see a reason for one of those rejections, but several others I was quite frankly surprised to get. And a couple of my interviews are programs I thought were longer shots when writing applications. I think we have to take home the message that there are factors in this whole thing about which we have no clue. We might have fit strongly with a site, but there might have been 30 applicants who were stronger fits, for some reason. It's one of the aspects of this that is so difficult, and we probably have to accept, because we have no choice, that we have limited control and understanding of this process. What frightens me is that we've only crossed one threshold.... February 19 seems a long time away. I'm trying to live in the moment.

One thing, I doubt you had poor essays and got so many interviews.

Good luck to everyone. One thing, we feel each other's pain!!

I think you should really relax...people are trying to help themselves thru this very difficult process with some humor. We are all very wired up but I strongly doubt someone would send an email like that which would most likely ruin their chance of an interview. I wish you could relax and find some humor in this too.

Where did u get your interview?

I'm still waiting on Gouverneur's Healthcare, Woodhull Medical, Trinitas. anyone heard from any of them or still waiting?

I received a rejection from Woodhull, but the only way I found out was because I emailed the training director and asked.

They sent out interview offers last night.

My guess is that you may have not received a rejection email because of a potential typo in your email address...so not only did I get rejected but in the Dear Mr. ____ section of the email, my name was spelled incorrectly.

I guess it's OK to start emailing directors of training today (for those sites with a December 15th notification)... the ones I haven't heard back have responded to some on this forum so am assuming it was a typo in address...
