I GOT AN INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!

The TD for Hudson called (sooooo nice) and said the chief psychologist from Rockland is actually doing the formal notifications and will call me sometime before next Wednesday (but I can also call them, and she gave me the number). She wasn't sure if they were doing the same interview dates as Poughkeepsie (sp?). Just a heads up: her number came up "Unknown" which means it is blocked.

Good luck to those waiting!!!

That is great news IsItOver!!!!! I hope you have a great interview. I will be interviewing at Hudson (the other site), on Thursday the 28th and on the 26th at Lincoln. it would be great to have a SDN reunion (lol). I am very happy for everyone that ended up hearing good news at the end! Enjoy and celebrate!!! 😛

Has anyone heard anything from Howard? I e-mailed yesterday but still no reply. 😕

The dates for Hudson (poughkeepsie) are the same at both sites, the last 3 weeks in January every Tuesday and Thursday. I hope you receive good news IsItOver!

On another subject (and without any intention of starting an argument),
I had some pretty terrible experiences with my LOR's. I was able to see one of my letters from my dissertation chair (which thankfully, was really great). On December 2nd, I found out from one the sites that I applied to that one of my letters had my name at the top (heading) but another person's name in the body of the letter. This was after all my apllications had been submitted with this letter........ Sooooo, although I would never ask for a copy of a letter (because I'm chicken), it would be great to make sure the letters were free of errors and mistakes such as the above mentioned.....

:xf:Still sending out good vibes to all you guys waiting....

I had a similar experience. One of my referencers had typos in her letter, and I had to ask her very politely to fix them so that I could upload it to the APPIC site. I ended up only using her letter for sites that specifically asked for two supervisors. What made it worse is that I had to hunt her down to get letter and then it was like that.

P.S. I have an informal interview in about 50 minutes! Reading over the brochure to be prepared!
AND! Congrats! IsItOver!

Thank you everyone!! Starpsych, I do think it is weird that she called me back in like 10 min but still hasn't called you. That makes me think you should call again, BUT, if she did get it you don't want to hound her so... I am basically saying I don't know. Sorry...

I have been waiting to use this smiley :soexcited: since I joined the forum - and then only got rejections and forgot to use it when I fially got good news! So, I needed to post this so I could finally use it (in case I don't get another chance).

So Excited!! :soexcited:

This is torture! I feel like I can't wait but I don't want to hound her. Even if it is a "no" I just want to know at this point. Whimper...

I don't know what to do.

Maybe wait a half hour more, at which point it will be 4pm on the East Coast and you can reasonably assume their day is almost over and you have essentially waited until the last minute to call again? She was SUPER apologetic for keeping us waiting and I don't think she will react negatively to you calling again - she will prob just feel bad she made you call twice!

Okay, i will do that. Thank you so much!

To answer someone's previous question about Cambridge Health Alliance, I got contacted for an interview on Dec 14th for the Child track. Just FYI.

Emailed Trinitas and they emailed back saying I should have waited to contact them on the 21st (oops) because it was published on their brochure. I went with the directory online date. Okay, I'll wait.

I still haven't heard back from Woodhull or Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut. Hrm....

Congratulations to everyone who got interviews so far and I'm keeping fingers crossed for all those that are still waiting!!!

I emailed Woodhull this morning and they got back to me with a rejection email pretty quickly. Jerks, hehehe.

I'm in the exact same boat! I called about two hours ago and...nothing. I'm sure it is okay to call again and that it wouldn't in any way affect your interview status. However, I'm going to err on the side of caution and not call again, at least for today. I don't really understand what is going on!

Congrats, Isitover! Now I can say that and not seem insane😀

I know! And now I am freaking myself out by thinking "maybe she doesn't want to have to call and give me a rejection." Gah!

So I'm getting ready to send emails to two sites who haven't gotten back to me despite a notification date of 12/15. Anyone have any suggestions on how to word the email so I sound like I'm interested in the site and not bothering them if they are busy and just behind in their notifications?

In my VM I just said that I understand that many sites are behind in their notifications because of complications with the new online system but that I just wanted to make sure I had not missed an e-mail notification from them and to please get back to me at their earliest convenience.

I kept mine brief.. to "inquire about the status of my application"

Yeah, I did that too and got the same response -- told my advisor about it, who informed me that that should have no bearing on my application status to them because they are responsible for the discrepant information. So here's to hoping she's right!

Congrats on your interview(s) and good luck for the rest!

Rejection from UMDNJ Piscataway. Stings a little, but def less than if I hadn't had good news this morning! Who wants to live in NJ anyway? 😉 (no offense to anyone who lives in NJ! lol)

The one I sent said "Greetings. I have a quick question about the notification process. If we didn't receive an interview invitation by yesterday, are we correct to assume that we weren't selected to interview at your site this year? Just wanted to double check on this before making any assumptions. Thanks so much for your time in reviewing everyone's applications."

However, I still don't have a response and that was sent yesterday, so take that for what its worth.

Yah haha, thanks for letting me know what your advisor said, it's definitely a comforting thought 🙂

Thanks for the congrats! Best of luck to you too!!

Personally, I don't think it is a good idea to indicate that you assume you have not been selected. To me, it shows a lack of confidence on the sender's part (not that you, flpsych, are not confident). While it probably would not affect their decision, I would just avoid saying anything in either direction and just reiterate (as suggested previously) that you are still very interested. I am also basing this advice on advice sent by Greg Keilin on the listserve to never assume anything until you have heard definitively one way or the other, AND I just got an interview TWO DAYS after the notification deadline - proof there is hope until you get the "no."

Yeah, you are right. Unfortunately for me, I already sent it so nothing can be done. I tried to convey my interest in the voice mail today, hopefully that will make up for it!

It is true that edieb`s practice is unethical in a strict sense. However I have endorsed this practice myself. There is too much at stake to have petty letter writers ruin several years of work in a vindictive letter. You might think that letter writers would be graceful or that you would be able to discern a negative "grinch." That simply is not always the case. Moreover even if not explicitly negative, you want the very best letter writers. The match is no longer about competition. It's a numbers game and it's about luck. Too many overqualified people do not get matched. It is a fallacy to believe that if you match you were the guaranteed best person for the job. A letter that is less than priceless can be a serious deterrent to sites.

Folks, this is the Match. People will disagree with me but the numbers say it all. Many of you now know how crazy this process is. You all got rejected at sites you thought you were definitely a good match at even though you may have exactly the experience they were looking for (as indicated in their brochure or through email communiques). Likewise, perhaps you are like me and received an interview or two at a place you did not expect. I hope this year was a wake-up call. I was sad that I could not monitor my letters this year and I received even less interviews than last year!

I could not fathom what it is like to be in a situation as yours... it must be very, very tough and frustrating. I do not know the specifics of what you did with the LOR so I cannot share my perspective on it.

Am I correct in thinking that what you are saying is that the ends justify the means, even if the means may go against the very principles which we all have agreed to abide by? That no obvious harm is done so it is justifiable to use "unethical" means to achieve our goals?

In the situation that was brought up with the other poster, the harm could be about breaking one's trust with the referee. If the envelope is sealed and we are not privy to the information, then it may be confidential.

I wish you all the best in this process and hope that you are matched with a wonderful site that helps you to achieve your goals.:luck:

Thanks for all the advice. I just sent a brief email inquiring about my interview status and stating that I was interested in the site. Here's hoping they get back to me soon! (with good news of course!)

Don't worry yourself too much about it. From everything I have heard, the way we word our e-mails and voicemails probably doesn't have much impact (if any at all) on their decisions. My fingers are crossed you hear good news back! :xf:

That was pretty mean too - and I have been on your side here!

I think this is another example of a debate that, while perhaps important, does not belong on this forum. While letters of rec concerns are definitely relevant, ethics debates belong elsewhere. Let's please keep this a supportive place for everyone and focus on where we are in the internship application process now.

(For those who were here for the previous debate: see me not getting sucked in? Aren't you proud? lol 😉)

So Proud!! 🙂

hahahahahhahahahahahahahahah

OH MY GOD THAT WAS HILARIOUS! And yes, only obnoxious caps could express that accurately. AND, just to put a cherry on top, it says at the end the film was made by the First Church of Christ. If my parents' church had made videos like that I DEF would have gone more often!

Thank you for that!!

That was FANTASTIC!!! hahahahahahahaha thanks for sharing it!!

Hi hi!

Just wanted to let you know that I called AGAIN and left another message stating that I am still very interested in their site. That was over an hour ago and I still haven't heard anything which leads me to believe that they have not finished reviewing their applications and we may be in the "not reviewed yet" pile.

Here's hoping... :xf: Good luck!

Seems entirely possible. Will keep sending good vibes your way!

Has anyone heard anything (or know anyone who has) from the Manhattan Psychiatric Center? They have until the 30th, but just wondering.

I haven't heard from MPC but I am not expecting to any time soon.

I think sites ought to post their interview dates, so people at least have a sense of when/where they might be in the event they do get an interview. That might not be super helpful with places like Hudson who do 3 weeks of interviews, but some places only interview like Monday and Tuesday the first week in January. That would def be good to know when selecting dates and making travel arrangements for places we already got interview offers from.

I called a site with a 1/15 deadline and left a message early on the 16th and still have not heard back. Considering calling at the end of tomorrow but haven't decided yet.

Which site, if you don't mind me asking?

Alexian Brothers.

A ways back someone reported being contacted recently, but they didn't say whether it was an invite or a rejection.

Hi bluegirl. I received an interview through email (which i never thought I would ever get since it was a long shot in my view). I applied to the Eating Disorders/Self injury Tract.... I would email Dr. Fader since she may not know that you are waiting for a response. Interviews were available on January 15th and 20th. Good Luck! :xf:

I just got an e-mail from Howard U. I was not selected for an interview. Huh. That's a much better way of saying it than rejected or denied or even passed up. I'm disappointed, but I'm happy to know.

So, final count = 4 interviews.

Wichita State U
Grand Valley State U
Hudson River Regional (Poughkeepsie)
Hutchings Psych Center

Now to figure out how to do all this traveling without breaking the bank.... (which is the only positive aspect of not getting very many interviews--imagine if I had 12 trips to plan!)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I received it yesterday afternoon

Thank you!

I'll email. Can't hope for an invite but here goes.

So I just got the weirdest (and rudest in my opinion) response from a DCT. I emailed a site this afternoon because their notification date was 12/15 and I still had not heard from them one way or the other. So, like many of us, I sent a very brief email politely inquiring about my application status.

In the response I got back, the DCT stated that she had emailed me on Friday letting me know that I wouldn't be offered an interview and that she used the same email address that I emailed her from so she didn't know how I couldn't have received the email. Then she basically accused me of sending the email to fish for an interview invitation and if I didn't get enough interviews, this was not the way to get them.

I'm kind of shocked. I have 8 interviews and I was in no way fishing for an interview. I simply wanted to hear back from all my sites so I could begin to finalize travel plans.

In hindsight I'm glad a didn't get the interview at this site, I wouldn't want to spend the year working with this person.

That is so rude, Bluefish25! I can't believe a DCT would be so rude! I wish I knew what the site was. I had a similar experience when I had to turn in supplemental information and ended up having to speak to a DCT on the phone. He was the rudest guy ever! I was so shocked since the brochure was so nicely written and whoever wrote it appeared to be a really nice person. I ended up not even sending my supplemental info because I lost interest in the site after speaking to him......
