Has anyone who has interviewed/accepted applied to the Physician Shortage Area Program? I applied to PSAP but have not heard anything since I was complete at the end of Sept.

I interviewed today PSAP and Dr Rabinowitz said the PSAP committeemeets less frequently then the regular Jefferson. H e said I should expect a decision in at least a month so maybe thats why.
I loved my interview day, fun people, good food
:xf:

congratz on the acceptance!!

im still waiting for an interview despite having submitted early june. Do you have any special ECs or something? I have similar GPA, higher mcat, and above avg ECs.. just trying to figure out what part of my application is making htem have doubts about inviting me

I have most of the usual ECs... 2 years of research (2 pubs), TA, tutor, leadership in some clubs, 2 years working in a hospital, hospice volunteering, and EMT. I also am a member of a national service fellowship. I would suggest letting the people in the office know that you are interested in Jefferson. Thats what I did and they seemed to respond to that.

just got a call from Dr. Brooks for an interview!

3.42 cum/3.8 sci with a 30 MCAT

there is a God!

For those of you who've been accepted, do you know whether we're supposed to send in a check for the $100 deposit or do we just have to sign and send the card? Will the $100 automatically be taken from my credit card once they receive the card saying that I accept the offer?

Thanks!

Guys, I feel so stupid right now:bang:. I could not find my Jefferson secondary email till last Friday. I'm not sure if I shouldn't even bother sending it in, it has been more than 4 weeks since I got the secondary. What do u guys think?

Right now, all you have to do is send in the card to hold a spot, and you have until the date on your card. You eventually have to send in the $100 deposit by May 15 if you want to go there; nothing will automatically be taken from your card. At least that's how I interpreted it. If you know you want to accept, I would just send in both the card and check now, that's what I did!

Woah, cool, did most of you get calls? I just got a standard email. Does Dr. Brooks mostly call? That seems pretty interesting...
The calls sometimes happen when an interview spot gets vacated with short-ish notice and they are trying to fill the spot. Like, it's Thursday and there is an interview open for the following Wednesday.

just do it. better late than never. and you never know. at least then you gave it a shot, right?

hey everyone--i'm looking for info re: % of people at jeff (and other schools) who get accepted to their top choice residency programs, can someone point me in the right direction? or, more generally, for anyone who has received multiple acceptances, what sources are you turning to in order to evaluate each school? i'm very torn.

woo! sent an "in the area" email last week, and got an interview today for jefferson! excited to see everything that everyone's been raving about.

complete end of july, interview invite for mid january (but that's the time I requested it for because I'd be in the area).

:soexcited:

Congrats on the interview invite. This makes me want to sent "in the area" emails to schools even though I'm not really in the area... 😀

Maybe I should send an "in the area" email. I live in Philly, so I suppose I'll be in the area, uh, next Thursday.

not a good idea!!! they know you are in the area all the time so.... I wouldnt do it

I am guessing the in the area email was not what got him the invitation. Dr. Brooks or Dr. Callahan probably just pulled out their app and made a decision on it quicker to facilitate that date. The decision process is still the same, and I think a simple interest email will have the same effect.

Has anybody heard back from Jefferson today regarding acceptances? I interviewed 2 wks ago and have been anxiously waiting by the phone. 😕

received the email today. HP waitlist.
interviewed last Wednesday, thought the interview went well..
does anybody know what my chances are?
i guess i just have to keep my hopes up..

So after you send in the deposit...is there anything else you have to do?

So after you send in the deposit...is there anything else you have to do?

All I've done is send in the deposit and I haven't received anything since, so I don't think there's anything else to do at this point. Oh yea, I also sent in my housing form.

Hi, Jeff 4th year here...

So here's the thing: regarding first, second, etc choice, I'm not aware that the match actually makes such information known. Only the people who apply to match know which program rank it was when they find out, so the schools would have to ask each applicant for this info. Some programs here do this, but it's not like there's a giant database. Our match list isn't available online, but it's not like it's a secret. There are copies of it laying around the campus in most departments. We have plenty of plenty of people matching into great residencies in competitive programs of every field from Ophtho, to Ortho, to derm to RadOnc, etc, but we also have plenty of people going into primary care, psych, etc (compare that to Penn which has more people applying to Radiology than Medicine this year per one of the students there I met on the interview trail). We did have a high number of people stuck in surgical prelim programs last match, but reasons for that are too many to simply blame that on the school.

However, if you can remember one thing about Jeff, it's that this is a HUGE school with a WIDE bell curve of students. We had a number of step 1 scores hitting 270+ in my class, but at the same time we also had 25+ people failing. The mean was somewhere 5 points above the national average and usually is every year though, and I honestly can't see how one couldn't feel prepared given the way we were taught... some people studied poorly, but that's not the school's fault.

How much time to do you get to study for the STEP I?

I got a call today from Dr callahan around 230pm EST informing me of my acceptance! First acceptance for me! I interviewed exactly 2 weeks ago.

I was complete in the first week of September, and I haven't heard anything. I imagine this might have something to do with being an OOS applicant (at least from what I can gather from hearing people talk), however I really really want to be in Philadelphia (which probably didn't come across in my app because there wasn't really a space for that) and am very interested in Jefferson. Is there any point in sending a letter of interest?

Along the same lines, I will actually be staying in Philadelphia towards the end of January - I'm not sure whether or not I'm from far enough away to merit an "in the area" email (currently in RI)...

Just send a note to Brooks or Calahan, no harm in that.

7 weeks off to use as you choose. I took 5 to study, and 2 to road trip. I think it was more than enough time. I was getting pretty burned out by week 4.

(if you have any more questions, feel free to ask, but it may take me a while to answer...I have no idea why I logged onto this site again. I guess I was bored on the interview trail.)

I think it's alright to send an email about still being interested/being in the area in January. I'm in CT and sent one and got an invite 🙂 I was a little concerned about it as well being too close, but it seemed to have worked...

do these ppl send rejections?? i've been complete since july and havent heard a peep

Just be patient. It's not uncommon to be complete in July and get invites as late as February or March. That was the case for me and many other students. They do interview late into the cycle...around April, I believe.

true, i guess im just getting a bit antsy

This waiting game truly does suck. I sent in my secondary late July, had my panel letter sent in late August (complete same day), and not a peep since...

What, you didn't receive the random "Do not have your schools send transcripts to us" e-mail? That was a true classic. I printed it and put it in my Med School Application Process scrap book.

Did anyone try sending update letters? Do they even accept them?

I sent one, but they just emailed it back to me 🙁

They accepted mine, and sent back an attachment saying they added it to my file.

What do you mean they emailed it back to you? They definitely welcome update letters, and like the above poster said, they'll send you back an email saying they have received it. Maybe you can try asking them if they added the letter to your file to make sure? That sounds strange....

Their email did have an attachment, but it was just the letter I sent them. I'll call them tomorrow.

so i got the acceptance envelope today and it stated i need to send the card back in like 2 weeks but the deposit isnt required till May 15th? Does that mean I dont need to send the 100 bucks until I decide if its for sure Jefferson or am I reading that wrong?

Read that again. I thought typically you had to send the deposit within 2 weeks to any school where you want to hold your acceptance, but if you withdraw before May 15th it will be refunded to you.

I read it the same way as you. I didnt send in the 100 bucks and they haven't said anything.
