Good Luck! Blacktexan, maybe you should order the "book of medical schools"(Medical School Admissions Requirements 2010-2011) from AAMC. It has the stats from every american medical school. I have one and it was very helpful.

I agree. The numbers were obtained from the 2008-2009 edition. I would invest in the most recent publication.

I haven't read through this thread at all. Just popping in to say I'm a 3rd year Meharry student. You can send me a PM with questions if you like! For those who have been accepted CONGRATS!😀

Wow this thread is really quiet......I will be interviewing on Jan. 24th. I am super excited and grateful. Is there anyone else on here that's interviewing on that day?🙂

Verrrry quiet! I've just been lurking to see if anyone from the 7th has heard back from the school yet. This waiting game has me stressed and....skipping classes🙄

But good luck on your interview! And good luck to all the future interviewees.

Thks hon! I pray that all goes well with you also and that you hear some great news soon from your interview😀

To those accepted, what are you folks doing in regards to housing? Anyone planing on living on-campus?

Anybody that interviewed the 10th hear back? Dr. Jackson said we should hear back in a week.

Just curious is there any dating going on between Meharry students and Vanderbilt students (both grad and undergrad). A brotha just wants to know! lol

When was accepted back in November, i made sure to call the Royal Towers Office and put in my application...I heard they fill up fast. I am also open to finding a roommate on SDN and looking for a place close to the school! Any takers? 🙂

Did you have to send the housing deposit fee when u turned in the forms?

Anyone else got the "AAMC Background Check Consent Request" in the email today? I guess it's almost 100% official, lol.

I hope they don't find out I'm related to Ted Kaczynski. 😉

Hey! I interviewed at Meharry on Jan. 7 and got the "AAMC Background Check Consent Request" email on Jan. 18 but I haven't received anything from Meharry. Did you get a letter or email from them before you got the AAMC Background Check email?? I don't whether I should start celebrating or not :s

Idk cuz I got that email on Jan 19 and I got my first acceptance back in October. But i would think that it is a good sign since the emails says you've been accepted or waitlisted somewhere. I hope it's good news. :luck:

My two cents....Congratulations! Yes start celebrating!😀 You probably have been accepted somewhere. Schools dont request a background check through AAMC unless they are very serious about admitting an applicant. Background checks arent free you know so why would they waste their money doing it if they werent gonna eventually let you in. Also, this early in the cycle, I highly doubt schools would start sending background check requests for highly placed waitlists applicants. If your acceptance came from MMC the reason you may not have received the official letter yet may be because it may be in the process of getting signed by the dean. Either way, u will be probably getting some form of good news soon. Live it up!!

Background checks are usually requested after Jan 1st unless you applied EDP then it will be sent around the time of acceptance. So if u didnt apply edp but got accepted in october, you still wont get the e-mail until after Jan 1st which is why you got it on the 19th of Jan. Congrats.
PS. You only get one background check request even if you are accepted by multiple schools.

I knew you only did the background check once and i figured that there must of been a certain date that they request them I just didn't know it was January.

If it were me, I would just call Meharry on Monday if you haven't gotten your letter by then.

Congrats! I'm interviewing on Feb 28 as well. Can't wait =)

I'm looking for a roommate myself...I haven't put in an application to the royal towers yet, so I'm sure I won't be getting a spot there. I wish Tufts would get back to me so I would know whether to go full force with Meharry or not 🙁

I can't wait!! Meharry here I come! 🙂

Does anyone know when the waitlist gets ranked and who we can call to find out our general position on the waitlist?

I haven't read through this thread at all. Just popping in to say I'm a 3rd year Meharry student. You can send me a PM with questions if you like! For those who have been accepted CONGRATS!😀

Hey Miss Alyssa--I met you at lunch on my interview day. Thanks for answering everyone's questions : ) It was nice to meet you

Can anyone help me with this? I interviewed yesterday and was asked a question that I feel was inappropriate but perhaps you all can weigh in and let me know if it is or not. We were talking about cadavers because I told him that I was a TA in the concerted Anatomy lab at my college where we learned anatomy from cadavers and cadaveral parts and he ask well what anatomical position is the penis? Is it flaccid or erect? and I was thinking what in the world!? and so I calmly said well it's flaccid bc I thought he was still talking about cadavers but instead he was talking about the terminology of a anatomical position which means to face up so he said no it is erect......😕 😱...so I thought ok that was very strange....idk....what do you guys think?

MMM yes that question was a bit weird and I probably wouldve been quite disturbed since it was a man...and I assume you're a woman? I know my school would say you should report it and/or ask for another interview but I assume you've already left Tennessee? They told us to report any unethical questions we receive. But my brother said unless they make inappropriate comments about your body or something, then they shouldn't be reported. Seeing as how technically, that question was scientifically related and related to the conversation, I'm not sure there's much you could do unless you want to give up all chances of getting in the school. There's no telling who he is and how much of an influence he has so reporting him may not be such a good idea. In all honesty, I would just pray lol but I'll ask a Meharry student and my bro who's an M4 at UIC what they think...and my advisor if you want. You could also make an anonymous phone call to Meharry and ask them what they think lol

Other than that, how do you think the interview went?

Yes, I am a girl lol. Yes u r right, reporting could damage my chances....it just sucks because I felt that I did not get a chance to really show how much I love Meharry and my passion for medicine because not only did he ask me that question but he outright asked me how I was going to make it in medical school with a kid...just like that....and although I did not appear disturbed on the outside and smiled and calmly responded to his question, I was def annoyed on the inside bc I know a lot of people who have children in medical school, it may not be easy but it is doable and he just kept harping on that for a long time😡....but I feel that I took the intiative to really sell myself on what I had to offer...ie (extensive research in neurology, teaching, etc) idk...just a little peturbed by all of this....yes if you could please check with your sources and yes I will remain in prayer...I really like the school but I did not have a good interviewer....🙁

Wow, I am so sorry you had to go through that! I would feel extremley uncomfortable after being asked that question. Personally, I think the comment was inappropriate too and I think you should talk to someone about going about reporting it if you feel comfortable about doing so. I know that it puts you in a difficult situation because of possible backlash but Meharry should have some kind of way of reporting this without being afraid of your application being "disturbed".

wow that was a crazy interview question. but it seems to me like one of those "pimping" questions that residents stumble over. Anyway brush it off, in medicine we all will experience things that will disturb us. That also reminds me of an experience I had: My anatomy professor kept pointing to the penis on the class dummy. "This is an area of great interest to people." is what he said. I was very suprised but I brushed it off.

perhaps you are right...i should just let it roll off my back like water on a ducks back...but idk i am praying about it...haven't decided to report it or anything, just mulling it over in my head as well as the interview as a whole

I think it all depends on your situation. If you feel like you're going to get in or have reasonable shots somewhere else and you'd be willing to forfeit your chances at Meharry I say report it. But if you think this might be your only chance at med school, i say let it roll off your back and pray for peace in your spirit. I do think it was inappropriate but is it worth the possible consequences. Just something to think about.

As far as the question about you having a child, as annoying as that was, that is a fair question for him to ask. I'm sure you are quite capable of handling it but the school has a right to make sure that you are by asking you about it.

Thanks guys for all the great feedback. I have decided I am just not going to worry about the question and let it roll off. Afterall, like supermommd said, in medicine we will always be faced with uncomfortable situations/questions and must remain cool, calm, and collected which is what I was in the interview. So I am just trusting the Lord for a favorable outcome to my interview and moving forward. Godspeed to the rest of the people that have interviews coming up🙂. Meharry really is a great school!

yes, the child question was fair, annoying lol but fair and I am ok with that

Got the cbc email this morning as well!!!

I pray to God that it's an acceptance 🙂

Does anyone know if they send out emails or letters?

If your accepted, you will get a mailed letter that is signed. You may or may not receive an e-mail notiification in addition. 👍

I got the AAMC Background Check Consent Request email also. I interviewed on January 10th

Hoping it's an acceptance also...I'm assuming its from Meharry but I interviewed at a few other schools and haven't gotten final word either.

WOW that question was off the hook. I got some questions at Drexel that I thought were absolutely unacceptable not sexual but just a little too personal...I wish I would have reported it.

Rest assured, you've been accepted somewhere, so that's good... sit back and relax...

I agree, that question was uncalled for... interviewers need to know that there are boundaries... I know that we all have to be professionals, but this lady is yet to become a doctor...and one shouldn't expect them not to get uncomfortable when when discussing penile erection or flaccidity... I know they call such things "PIMP-ing" when u r on rounds... but I personally believe this crossed the line... but like others have said, you just have to be thick skinned about it because although the interviewer sounded like a jerk, I don't think he broke any legal rules (moral rules maybe).

On a side note, I have my Drexel interview in 2wks, but really don't feel like going since Meharry acceptance. Kinda knocks the interviewing wind outta ya when u get an acceptance.....it takes a lil certainty away. Again, GL 👍

I liked Meharry much better than Drexel. I interviewed at Drexel on November 30th and as of about a week or so ago my application had not even gone to committee yet 😕. There really wasn't anything about Drexel that I loved or that stood out in my mind. But I am still trying to decide if my wicked interviewer shaped my opinion of the school. Everyone else I talked to about Drexel had good interviews so :luck: (but Meharry is better so no pressure lol).

Congrats to everyone who has recieved the CBC email. I am worried, I haven't gotten one. I haven't recieved anything in the mail either. I really hope I get a CBC email. I have called, and they won't tell me anything. So nerve wracking!!!

Congrats to those w/ a CBC request. To my understanding, it means you are either conditionally accepted or waitlisted somewhere (hopefully the former). Good luck to those waiting for feedback :xf:

I agree, that is the best thing to do for now, and I appreciate your positive outlook. However, interviewers are not allowed to ask sensitive questions involving medical conditions, disabilities, family related issues, sexual preference etc. The only time they may have the ability to address those topics is if the interviewee says something about it during the interview, or if it is in your personal statement. If so, then it's fair game.

I think the anatomical question was just to see how you would respond in a stressful situation, because patients will say all sorts of out of pocket things (I've heard all sorts of horror stories). The main point is to see if you can keep your cool and smile. My friends who did ended up being accepted. It seems like that was your approach so you shouldn't be too worried 🙂
