2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anyone know if delaware, maryland - college park, and/or rutgers (all clinical phds) are done sending out invites?

thanks!

I've been told that (my application has been received and that) "the faculty are currently reviewing the files."

Hi all!

One of the grad students at my school just forwarded me a link to a document with interview tips and questions to ask by Dr. Mitch Prinstein, Director of Clinical Psychology at UNC. He also has more info listed at a website indicated in the document. Take a look if you've been lucky enough to secure an interview, or if you're still hoping for one! It isn't too late yet... http://www.unc.edu/~mjp1970/I Just Got an Interview for a Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program.pdf

Good luck, everyone! :luck:

I'd be interested in knowing if Maryland-College Park is done sending out invites, as well. I really liked their program and thought I was a good fit. They aren't interviewing until the 18th, so I keep telling myself I still have a shot. But realistically, I'm sure I don't. Invites went out a while ago...

Happy Monday everyone, I'm back to incessant email/phone checking🙂

I just spoke with the graduate secretary at Fairleigh Dickinson, and she said interviews will be held Feb 26 and Feb 27 (I think this is an "or", not an "and" situation), and that invites will be extended about 1.5 to 2 weeks before then. Good luck to all!

Are the graduate depts usually pretty understanding when you call and ask about interview invites and such? I have been fighting the urge to call because I didnt want to come off as annoying or anxiety stricken. Just wondering if I should go ahead and call the schools I am still waiting on

They generally seem pretty understanding about it, but I also don't give my name just in case they secretly want to kill me!

I have emailed a couple places after I've read that mass interview invites via email were extended. I've really only done this when I was pretty sure that I didn't get one (I was right), and I just wanted to find out for sure and stop wasting mental capital by holding out hope. People have been really nice about that as well.

Hi! I've been following the board, though I haven't posted before. Why do people ask for other forum members to pm their POIs? What is the benefit of that?

Some schools send out mass invites, and others have POI's call/email about invites. It is helpful to know if your POI has already given out invites. If so, then you probably don't have a good chance of getting an interview.

Thanks for the heads up!!! :xf:

In addition, I just got a phone call from Pace, and I got an interview for their combined Psyd program! :soexcited:

I emailed the grad coordinator at OSU and got this response:

Applications are still under review. All final decisions will not be posted for two more weeks. Thank you for your patience.

Someone on here had an interview with OSU this last Friday, though, which makes me nervous. . . Anyway, with this and Cincinnati, it looks like I won't be hearing from either school for a while. :/

I just received an invite to the VA Consortium's PsyD program, as well as to the University of Rhode Island's PhD program. So I'm up to 3 invites and 1 waitlist. I may have a chance yet!

Also, I called GW (PhD) and the lady I spoke to said they should be sending out interview invites via email within the next few days, if not today.

I called Baylor (PsyD) and they should be sending out rejections and interview invites within the next 2 weeks. Interviews will be on either 2/25, 2/26, and 2/28.

This is very helpful. If you don't mind, I'll just PM you the list of the rest of the schools I'm waiting on and you can call those too. Cool?😉

Hi: Happy Monday to all...has anyone heard from USUHS Medical Psychology, Clinical Track, Civilian Program, by any change??

I received letters about my application status but no reject or invite, not names for recruiter etc. I am absolutely walking in the dark. Please enlighten me 😀

After seeing in the interview invite list that Widener sent out emails/interview invites I called the PsyD program, since they are most definitely my top choice and I was beyond worried that i might not get in (for the second year in a row). But they said my application was still in review and a decision has yet to be made. Hopefully they're just sending out multiple rounds of emails??

also, I got a call this morning from GW and I got my first interview invite!! beyond excited!!

Congratulations, Hopefulhokie! Looks like a great line-up! Would you mind letting us know how the invite to VA Consortium came through? Was it an e-mail or phone call? Hoping to hear from them, too!! Thank you!

I have the same questions, but for URI. Also, which program did you apply to?

And congratulations--looks like you're in pretty good shape!

I received a phone call this morning! It came from a 757 area code. Good luck!

Yeah, it was for URI's Clinical PhD program and I received it via email around 11am from a Graduate Admissions Assistant.

Hey all,

There has been some talk about the fact that UIllinois (Chicago) is still reviewing and won't be contacting until this week-next week, etc. Did anyone find out exactly WHEN their interview weekend is being held? Based on last year it is potentially looking like the 25th-27th, which is a very popular date 😱

I would say that you are still in the running for Widener. I went to their first interview, and they told us that they are holding three more interview days. They interview aprox 25 students per day, for a total of 100 students. So as far as I know, there are still three more interviews!

Mondays always make me happy/anxious! I go crazy checking my phone, and looking at which of my schools sent out invites around this time last year. Lehigh counseling should be sending out invites soon....I hope. Hofstra PhD clinical as well. And U Miami PhD counseling...anyone heard from any of these? Oh the wait continues...

I'm also still waiting on Hofstra. Based on last year's thread, it looks like their interviews weren't until March 1, so it looks like we still might have a little while to wait :/

I think last year they notified people about interviews on feb 1, so...tomorrow!! Although it seems that everybody is behind this year. Could be all of the storms..(these are the things I tell myself to feel better!) 🙂

Just got an email inviting me to interview for the clinical/school psychology PhD program.

Interview dates ares are the 25th and 18th.

Just got my first rejection before any of my invites. Didn't get an interview with CUNY's program which was my second choice. 🙁

Just got a rejection email from Michigan State University.
Also heard from University of Denver.. they are done sending out interview invitations.
Anyone else invited to SUNY Binghamton? I have a feeling it's going to be VERY cold & snowing, & I've only seen snow falling twice! I don't even know how to prepare!

I would suggest three things: warm coat, hat, and rain boots ( streets can get very wet/slushy after a snowfall). Other than that, you should be fine! 🙂

Oh, I was hoping rain boots would be acceptable! I live in New Orleans, so I have several pair 🙂. The one time it snowed here, I asked my boyfriend (who is from a cold climate) if I should take an umbrella. He laughed.

What do you mean by some talk? Anyone know anything for sure? I was thinking about calling them since it seems like no one's heard too much from UIC.

Sure, it is true that most of us from the north do not utilize umbrellas in snowstorms. BUT, I have seen them used. I don't think an umbrella is that bad an idea actually--unless, of course, it is a major storm. Then, it would be useless. But, during a regular snowfall, not a bad idea at all. : )

Rain boots??? If you are only going to be walking a short distance, then those should suffice. But, if you are going to be walking around a lot (and it happens to be snowing a lot outside, then your feet are going to get cold.

Thank you for the advice! I've only lived in Houston and New Orleans, so I really have no clue as to how to deal with snow. I thought an umbrella would be useful, personally, but no one else was using them on campus, so I didn't want to look silly. I'll have to wear some warm socks and the boots -- I don't think it's worth investing in snow boots if I don't get accepted anywhere cold, haha.

I agree with you. Why pay for boots until you are accepted into a program in a cold climate? . . . Well, now, I didn't say you wouldn't look silly with the umbrella. : ) Walking around with an umbrella in the snow is akin to walking around with an umbrella (parasol) on a sunny day in the south. Few people do it. Some think you look ridiculous when you do. But, not a bad idea when you actually think about it. : )

Still haven't heard from UIC. However, I did receive an email from the UIC Campus Housing inviting me to an open house to discuss housing options there. Could this be a sign of good news to come?? With my luck, probably not...but trying to stay positive :xf:

Anyone hear from U of Nevada Reno???
According to the website info, invitations are issued between Jan 27-29 via phone, but it seems that no one has received a phone call yet.. 🙁

I'm waiting on UNR as well. I saw that time table thing on their website too- if you look at the bottom of the page it says "last updated Dec. 30 2009." So I think that may be valid for last year. And it looks like from last years stats that someone got an invite 2/2 even given that info. So I think we're still good for now:xf:
Good luck to you :luck:

Hi to both of you UNR fellow invites 🙂

I called, and they said that they haven't yet sent out any invites, and are still reviewing apps. Hopefully this week! :xf:

Hi there,
I also applied to USUHS, but in the Military Track, and have heard back. I got the interview 😀. I don't know if they send out invites for civilian and military tracks at the same time though...hope I helped a little!

I haven't heard anything either (civilian program). It should be coming up soon though!

These snow days in the Northeast are really throwing a wrench in the works! Here comes another one too... 😡

No doubt. My fresh direct order was canceled for tomorrow night, you KNOW this is going to be ugly!

I actually live in NYC and I just bought a pair of rain boots because my snow boots have been pretty useless over the past few weeks. There are literally pond-sized puddles in the middle of the streets and my feet are soaked if I wear snow boots (because they are fabric based and not water proof). A nice pair of rain boots with thick socks or liners will definitely be all you'll need.

As for the umbrella, I totally used one during the last snow storm. The snow was falling so hard and at such an angle, that it was flying directly into my eyes. Without the umbrella to block the wind/snow mixture from my face, I would not have been able to see. For just light snow storms, though, I would not suggest using an umbrella... 🙂
