2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
BU and Temple are definitely done interview invites. If you did not get an interview, don't count on getting in...🙁

I'm waiting for UMass Boston as well--they said that they would be contacting us this week.

I heard from UMass Boston via a phone call from my POI this morning (she also happens to co-chair the admissions committee, so I'm not sure if she called me because she's my POI or because she's on the committee--either way, Yay!). The e-mail they sent a few weeks ago said that they'd be extending invites from 2/2-2/4, so I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't heard from them yet. They're also closed for the snow today, so I was kind of surprised they called. Best of luck to all of you who are still waiting on them! 🙂

I just ask for the status of my application, usually. If they're still processing, I ask for the timeline of when they will start sending out interview invites, as well as the day that the actual interview is anticipated to take place.

Hmm what do you say when you call? I am curious but do not want to seem pushy.

I got an email invite today to interview at Nova Southeastern University for their PsyD. Program on 2/28/11.
I didn't see this on here, yet, and I thought it might be helpful for people like me who check this site, but don't necessarily post anything 🙂
Good luck everyone!

Congratulations!!!!
Did you identifed who you would like to work with. I called them last week and they said their reviewing. Still hopefull!!!!!

I called to see how long the invitation for interview process takes at Hofstra. Do not sit and stare at your phone! The process takes a few weeks. They don't sit and call people over the course of a single day or a single week. So, don't lose hope if you aren't called today, tomorrow, or even this week. 👍

Oh, and good luck! :luck:

OMG THANK YOU for doing all the work for me, lol. I was going to call tomorrow since I haven't heard anything, but now I can take a deep breath.

Did anyone else get an email from Long Island University's Clinical Psychology PsyD program?? It said my application is "now complete" and they are reviewing it... but I submitted my application back in November and haven't done a thing since! I'm pretty sure this was a mass email because it said things like "if you haven't taken the subject GRE" (which I have) and gave all the information for when people will be contacted for interviews and acceptances. So let me know if anyone else got the same email.

Just to give info to anyone who wants it, they said interviews are granted on a rolling basis and will be in mid to late February. Good luck to all! :luck:

Psychgirl01---I have not heard from Rosalind Franklin yet. I tried calling there the other day to ask when they might be sending out invites but they weren't too helpful. They said 10 days but who knows if that is true or they just randomly picked a number. Also, with the snow its probably going to take a lot longer.

Veiledrose-Was this a mass invite from Nova? If you could provide more details that would be great.

psychtheories-what number did you use to contact nova? I'm going to try and call tomorrow.

Also, everyone who commented about Ferkauf thank you!

i know one person posted about University of Washington - Seattle for adult clinical psychology....has anyone else heard back yet?? if i haven't heard back yet, am i not in "the running" anymore??

thanks in advance 🙂

Also, is there a number of interviews that you get that makes it seem like you will be in grad school next year? Like if you get 4 interviews that is a higher chance of getting in than if you get only 1. What is the minimum number until you are pretty confident about getting in?

THANKSS

It's pretty variable; I've heard about people getting in after only getting one interview, and I've heard of people getting six interviews and not getting any offers. 😱 I apologize if I've just given some of you anxiety attacks; just try to focus on the first part of that rather than the second!

Good luck! :luck:

Hey Everyone,

After reading for a few months, I finally caved and joined. This thread has kept me a little more sane throughout this stressful process. Congrats to everyone that has received invites/acceptances so far!

I received an email from CW Post's PsyD program this afternoon as well. It sounds like it was possibly the same one with that quote about taking the Subject Test if you haven't already (even though I took it already too). It also said something about all those who met criteria would be invited for an interview. Do you know if these "criteria" were posted anywhere? All I could find were the admissions requirements which were pretty vague...transcripts, 18 credits of psych, gre, letters of rec, statement, research inquiry, clinical experience, etc. Feel free to PM if you want to share info!

I called the Center for Psychological Studies at 954-262-7563. Have you gotten any feedback from them thus far?

To be honest I think they just sent that email to everyone with all the info so that they would stop getting phone calls about when they are inviting people for interviews... at the end they were basically like, please stop calling us. I also have no idea what "criteria" they are talking about, but it sounds promising that they don't have a set number of people to cut. We'll see what happens in the next week or so...

Psytheories, yes I listed a couple of faculty members I would like to work with in my personal statement. I have my fingers crossed for you!

I have noticed that many PsyD programs have more than one interview date, and interview a high number of applicants. Does it mean anything to be in the first interview round, and how do these programs manage to choose a class of aprox. 20 from 100 qualified applicants?

I believe it's the case that PsyD programs are slightly easier to get into than PhD programs, so I think that in order to even get a class of 20, a lot of programs probably have to accept a higher number of applicants. I think according to the Insider's Guide (these may not be exact numbers) but one of the PsyDs I'm applying to accepted about 40 students and enrolled about 20. That's my best guess..

Thank you for the reply. I am merely curious. I have had a couple of PsyD interviews in which I am part of the first round, and have heard that they have a few more interview days to follow.

I was actually wondering the same thing (about rounds). Because the one of the programs I'm interviewing at let me choose the date from 3 different interview days, so I'm assuming that order doesn't really matter there. For a different program, I was assigned a date and I know there are interviews at a later date. I'm not really sure how much order matters in these situations, but I'd like to think that they want to see me first because they like me better!

Some PsyD programs give 50+ acceptance offers to applicants in order to end up with a class of ~25. There is a lot of crossover with people interviewing at other programs, so while they may interview 100 people and give offers to 50 of those 100 (over the course of people passing up that offer to accept offers from other programs mind you...), only 25 end up going to the school.

That is not all programs, but mostly the less competitive ones. Those number dwindle as the programs get more competitive...

I wish the guides listed how many people were invited for interviews. It would be nice to calculate the percentage of students being offered admission from the interview pool. As of now, the book I have only allows you to calculate the percentage of students offered admission from the initial applicant pool, which IMO is only useful before interview invites go out. As of now, I want to calculate my chances of being offered admission for any interview invites I am given. This would provide a nice ceiling percentage IMO assuming I interview well, and not taking into account other factors, such as minority status, etc.

Likewise, with knowledge of the number of applicants offered interviews, you could also figure out the base chance of being offered an interview without taking into account other varying factors (e.g. GREs, SOP, LOR, GPA, Pubs, RA work, Clinical work, etc.).

I applied to 20 schools...so I e-mailed all of them about a week ago and here is what I found out...

Done Extending Invites:

Virginia Commonwealth
University of Tulsa
University of Arkansas
Northern Illinois
Nebraska-Lincoln
Auburn
North Texas
Oklahoma State University

E-mailed the remaining schools on my list today...I will update tomorrow afternoon...

In the meantime, lol, has anyone heard from George Washington University, Wyoming, Kansas, Idaho State, Illinois @ Chicago? If so, was it a mass invite?? :luck:

P.S. I'm pretty sure this website is getting way more attention from me than my facebook page at work, hahaha, its a problem

Has anyone heard from UIC? I received 1 PM about someone getting a phone call/interview, but has anyone else heard from them? I am anxiously awaiting to hear from them and tried to find out my status but I never received a response.

Congrats to people who got invites today!

Hey...I e-mailed them last week and they told me they would be sending out invites this week...and the beginning of next week. They said they received an ungodly amount of apps this year....I applied there too, I left a message tonight and they usually call me back so I will let you know what they say tomorrow...

Idaho State is up on grad cafe as of a few hours ago. But based on the last few years of interview invites, I wasn't expecting them to notify people for another week. Did anyone else hear from them?

Yah, I saw that on Grad Cafe....I'm wondering if it was a Mass Invite? 🙁 I e-mailed them so I guess I will see tomorrow...

BTW...I e-mailed two weeks ago my whole school list I applied too, and more than half of the schools that were on the GradCafe Website (for me anyway) told me they haven't even looked at apps yet...sooo someone is lying on that page....

Yea...idk...I mean some of them were correct (I posted those earlier)...but many of them were not...I think this site is more credible because theres more accountability to it...just sayin..

The Dalai Lama just tweeted (no, really!) this:

"The whole purpose of engaging in the practice of patience is to become stronger in mind, stronger in heart."

Oh, so much patience 🙂

Warm welcome! Hope you find the forum helpful : )
You can find out everything about these schools on the very first page of the page. It is updated daily and is organized nicely by Psyd, Phd clinical and counseling, school, and combined. Best of luck to you as well.

Has anyone heard from Xavier, PsyD or Binghamton PhD?

I'm still waiting to hear from Xavier too, I don't think they've sent out invites yet.

Also, to the person who said VCU was done extending invites - was that Clinical or Counseling or both???

I agree. The complete anonymity of gradcafe, had I actually known about it and looked at it during my own admissions process, would've caused me to place little if any credence in most of what's posted there.

Having said that, .... can anyone confirm or deny correspondence with umaryland college park clinical phd which just popped up on grad cafe with "rejection emails?" .... what should we think if we've still heard nothing from them......

I can at least confirm that UMD College Park has sent out some rejection letters via a mass email- unfortunately, I got one this morning. If you haven't heard from them yet, I would recommend logging onto your application supplemental form and checking the status of your application - this is where the rejection letters were posted.

Hopefully the delay in hearing from them means that you'll get some good news!! Good luck 🙂

They told me yesterday that they had already sent out some invites but that if your application hadn't been rejected, then you were still being considered.

Ahh thank you! I am so glad I decided to read back posts this morning! Here's hoping, for both of us.

Thanks ClinPsychMK - sorry to hear you got "the letter", but have no fear, I've already gotten many of those too..... I don't really know what to think though, my status still just says "complete".... :xf:

Hey guys. Can the person who was accepted into the Univeristy of Arkansas' Clinical Psychology program please PM me their POI? Thanks and congratulations!

For those of you who applied to the clinical Ph.D. at TC, I just spoke with someone in the department (anonymously, naturally 🙂) who said they would start extending interview invites in TWO WEEKS!! This is definitely much later than last year. The person who answered the phone could have just been an office assistant of some sort, and maybe she meant that interviews would take place in about two weeks? Confusing. Anyway, if anyone has heard anything different, please let me know!

omg my interview is TOMORROW i am super nervous.:scared:

i picked out two outfits yesterday in order to have options. i have a pantsuit with a nice shirt and also a blazer with a dress. there is SO much snow here i am stumped about what shoes to wear 👎....i was pretty confident and laid back initally but now i am unsure how it will go 😕:xf:
this is my only school of choice and if i don't get in/funding...its back to life as usual

Good luck!!! Sounds like you have some lovely ensemble options🙂 I live in the northeast, and wore boots to both of my interviews this week. I just changed into my nicer shoes once I got there. I saw several other people doing this too. I had to carry around an extra bag with my rubber rain/snow boots in it, but it was better than having my shoes/tights/pants soaked! Best of luck tomorrow, I'm sure you'll be fabulous. :luck:

Both times now that I've been to an interview it's snowed (is it me?) and I've worn snow/rain boots to get to the site and then changed into nicer showes for the actual day. I've found that I wasn't the only one who had this idea, including those who were interviewers. I don't think anyone is going to cross you off the list becuse you chose to wear a pair of shoes that fit the weather. GOOD LUCK!!! :luck:

Good luck!!! I'd say wear what you feel is appropriate, but if you have a bag maybe bring different shoes for the tour so you don't freeze or are excessively uncomfortable. I know some people don't like carrying a bag, but I think I'd rather have extra stuff with me just in case.

The question is: was that confirmation bias, irrational primacy effect, or illusory correlation?!
