2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
omg my interview is TOMORROW i am super nervous.:scared:

i picked out two outfits yesterday in order to have options. i have a pantsuit with a nice shirt and also a blazer with a dress. there is SO much snow here i am stumped about what shoes to wear 👎....i was pretty confident and laid back initally but now i am unsure how it will go 😕:xf:
this is my only school of choice and if i don't get in/funding...its back to life as usual

Try to wear shoes appropriate for the weather. I have seen women wearing open toe or slingbacks to interviews where there is snow. I view it as an indication someone didn't research the area and school. It goes back to what the GREs are trying to figure out which is does this person have the knowledge and skills necessary for graduate school. BUT honestly, the POIs are looking at your skills set, brain, research interests and potential, not your shoes. Wear something sensible and comfortable. Everyone understands snow is cold and wet. GOOD LUCK!

The question is: was that confirmation bias, irrational primacy effect, or illusory correlation?!

Right now it's definitely an illusory correlation, but my next interview is in Mississippi. If it snows there I may actually be on to something!

Yup, I hear that!! I have an interview tomorrow too and everything is covered in snow!!! ARGH!! I am still going to try for high heels...

I received one of the invites from Idaho State last night, and posted on grad cafe. It was not a mass email because it was addressed to me personally. However, it was from the director, and in the email he mentioned that official invitations will be mailed out by Friday. Good luck to those still waiting to hear! :luck:

Yah, I saw that on Grad Cafe....I'm wondering if it was a Mass Invite? 🙁 I e-mailed them so I guess I will see tomorrow...

BTW...I e-mailed two weeks ago my whole school list I applied too, and more than half of the schools that were on the GradCafe Website (for me anyway) told me they haven't even looked at apps yet...sooo someone is lying on that page....

My first interview is tomorrow too and I bought some really cute rain boots this past weekend just in case the walkways were still covered in snow. Luckily the sidewalks around my area have been pretty thoroughly cleaned off AND my interview is only 5 blocks from my apartment....talk about convenient! 😀

How about these? 😀

:laugh: i would definitely give them something to remember about me. i have actually considered wearing something that stands out "appropriately" so when they reference me they will go "oh yea, that girl" hahaha

Good luck!!! Sounds like you have some lovely ensemble options🙂 I live in the northeast, and wore boots to both of my interviews this week. I just changed into my nicer shoes once I got there. I saw several other people doing this too. I had to carry around an extra bag with my rubber rain/snow boots in it, but it was better than having my shoes/tights/pants soaked! Best of luck tomorrow, I'm sure you'll be fabulous. :luck:

thanks!! i have considered the pants because they would allow me to wear more "sturdy" shoes. i know this isn't a fashion show per se, but that is just my own thing 😉 i will definitely take everyone's suggestions to mind as i obsess this evening

I just received an interview from Wright State (PsyD) via e-mail from the director of admissions. The interview dates are Friday, March 4 and Monday, March 7.

👍 Definitely what I am going to do. Every one of my schools will be covered in snow, and unless I can find super cute boots that go well with some of the skirts I was considering, I'm going with pants to be as inconspicuous as possible. I'm all about comfort. 😀

I wore boots with a skirt to one interview where I knew I wouldn't have the opportunity/space to change my shoes. Another interview that was longer and included several group meetings, I wore a pant suits and old sneakers and brought a change of shoes, because I figured I'd have a place to put my shoes or at least the opportunity to change. I agree with what was said before though, they are judging your intelligence level, and wearing heels in the snow is not very intelligent! ;-)

I see that Yale University isn't listed in the results. Has anyone heard from them yet?! 😕

Thanks!

Just an FYI I emailed the administrative person at Hofstra today to ask if all the invites had gone out. She said No they only just started but she didn't have my application! She suggested I check with the grad admissions office, so I called and emailed them (of course had to leave a message).

I immediately double checked my online application. Everything looks fine and it was submitted by the deadline (unfortunately not early because I was waiting on recommendation letters).

So I'm not sure what is going on there, but just giving you all a heads up just in case.

Did anyone else get waitlisted for Suffolk? I got an email today (after much anxious waiting) telling me my application was strong but I'm on the "active waitlist" and they'll be in touch as the process continues. I'm underwhelmed and frankly, not very hopeful.

I received the same email from Suffolk. Bummer :/

Jessa, this is not related to much of anything...other than the fragile state of my mind these days, but upon quick glance I thought your avatar was a bulb of garlic🙂 I LOVE garlic, actually, so it would be a pretty cool avatar in my book.

It would also scare off the forum vampires! 👍

Same thing happened to me. The graduate office has apparently not processed my app yet, but they suggested I call back over the next few days to make sure it is processed so that it can make departmental review...not sure what that means. Is it possible that they will send out invites without reviewing all apps first?

For anyone waiting on IIT - they're not done with invites yet, they're still reviewing and sending out invites. Called today and spoke to the psych administrative assistant. Phew!

Mail is still messed up in Chicago as well, no mail until tomorrow, if anyone was waiting on something.

Hey fellow hopefuls...

Just fyi, I called UNR today and they said they would start extending invites TOMORROW!! yayyyy 🙂:luck:

Well they have been sending out invites according to this site and gradcafe. It is strange that they would do so without first reviewing all apps. I called this morning, and they told me that my app is complete and in for review. Ugh...

Ditto. Same story on this end

It is unfortunate that psychology doctoral programs do not have a system like law schools have that collects all your data in one place for it to be submitted to ALL of your schools of choice, i.e. an LSAC for psychology. This way there would be no confusion and worrying about whether every single school received all of your application materials, since they would have already been accrued at the central database to be submitted to multiple programs. Likewise, the system would give confirmations that your application was received by schools and would notify you of any decisions that were made.

Imagine all of the frustration and aggravation this would save the doctoral applicants who are applying to a field that is supposed to practice beneficence and nonmaleficence!

😍 I love this comment and couldn't agree more! I was just saying this exact same thing in October!

Just an update: I called and emailed. A girl called me back, she said they were "missing" items of my application!!!!!!!! (This is not the case, I downloaded the final version and everything was there). They said they were missing one transcript and 2 recommendations! On the online system it says that all of my recommendations are submitted! I think there is something going on with their online application.

This is a warning-just double check guys!!

Hi,
I just thought I'd send this information out.
Rosalind Franklin said interview invites will be sent out around February 15.

I called NOVA and they said they aren't done reviewing applications and that everyone will receive an e-mail (waitlist, rejection, interview) soon.

Thank you! I've given up calling schools since I was either rejected or waitlisted when I did it before.

Hey...I e-mailed them last week and they told me they would be sending out invites this week...and the beginning of next week. They said they received an ungodly amount of apps this year....I applied there too, I left a message tonight and they usually call me back so I will let you know what they say tomorrow...

Clearly the Dalai Lama never applied to graduate school in psychology

JK - I love his quotes too! Nice reminder to remember this will all make us stronger...one day...

The Dalai Lama just tweeted (no, really!) this:

"The whole purpose of engaging in the practice of patience is to become stronger in mind, stronger in heart."

Oh, so much patience 🙂

+3 or 4(?). Perhaps we should all petition the APA to change PhD admittance guidelines.

has anyone heard anything from ut southwestern?

I had been told they would be sending out invites by email and mail by 2/4. That's tomorrow!! However, they were hit with a lot of ice yesterday, so that may have thrown off their schedule...

Good luck!

Me three... I wonder if they waitlisted everyone? I know some schools do that... Congrats to all who got invites there! 👍

Sorry to say (but I think sharing the information is probably more helpful), but the invitations for interviews did go out; Suffolk does not wait-list everyone.

Best of luck to you!

Just wondering - it looks like interview invites are winding down from the looks of this thread, but I have a feeling that might not be. Anyone know when interview invites start winding down? Anyone still waiting on a bunch of schools? I'd just like to know where everyone else in the process.

Another question. Anyone know how the waitlist process works for DePaul? What are they waitlisting people for? Another round of interviews?

I'm still waiting on 4 schools, I've heard from the majority though (14 or so). Judging from last year's thread the schools I'm waiting on tend to notify later than most. It does seem to be winding down though, you're right.

Have yet to hear from 5 schools. I don't think I can take another week of refreshing my Inbox.

I'm still waiting on 6 schools.

Thanks, and to you! I know invites went out, I was just wondering if anyone was rejected... for instance I have heard of schools inviting their selected applicants and then putting the rest on the waitlist rather than rejecting anyone right away. I'm curious since it seems like everyone was either invited or waitlisted. Haven't seen any rejections.... just wondering what my chances are being on the waitlist (probably not great). I have other interviews so I guess it's no big deal, just curious 🙂

I have about 4 left that I haven't heard anything from. The last post on last years invite list was in early March. So, I'd guess within the next 2-3 weeks there will be invites and then things will wind down until people start accepting/declining interviews.

Hi all...

I was curious, I received a call from my POI inviting me for an interview. I don't want to get my hopes up too much but I can't help thinking that this is a good sign, when the POI calls you personally. Is this a good thing necessarily, or is there a chance that this could be the way a school asks for an interview?

Yes, that is a great sign. Can you tell us from what school?
