2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am just curious. I just have two interviews so far, although I haven't heard from a few others, which I don't have my hope up at all. Shall I be worried? How many interviews will be "safe" enough? I am not saying stats wise and assuming that I don't behave inappropriately in the interviews. I start to feel nervous. And I become more and more greedy as I think three will make things safer.

so how many do you guys got so far? and is it common to be rejected by multiple interviews? I know how weird this may sound as they are independent from each other.

I applied to five programs, got two invites, one rejection, and two are still pending. So, yes, it is not an awful lot but I think that less interviews give me more time to prepare thoroughly and I am very determined to get into one of them...who isn't? You just have to go with what you get and hope for the best 👍

Last night I had a pre-invite Skype interview with a POI, and from things I learned in this conversation, this school which had been toward the middle of my list very quickly rose to the top. I have a VERY strong feeling I will be invited to interview. Thing is, I found out their interview weekend is at the same time as a school I already accepted an invite to. I kind of want to cancel my invite to this other school which is really at the bottom of my list, so I can get the full interview weekend experience at my new top choice school. What is the etiquette regarding cancelling interviews at other schools? How do I go about that? 🙁

Jexa, I had a similar situation happen to me - I had been invited to interview at a school several weeks ago and accepted the invitation. Then this past week, I got invited to interview at a school that's at the top of my list, but their interview weekend was the same day. I talked it over with my old academic advisor, and took his advice - I responded back to the top choice school and told them the truth, that I have a schedule conflict due to an invitation that I received prior to theirs, but that I was very interested in their program and would like to schedule an alternative interview day, if possible. They're currently working with me to hopefully get an alternate day. I think that by saying that, you can still honor your initial commitment and it shows your top choice school that you're "in demand", and you hopefully still get a chance to visit their program. (and this is all assuming that you DO get an interview to the top-choice school.... obviously don't do anything til you hear back for sure!) But ultimately, if you feel really strongly that it would be best for you to go to your top-choice school interview, I'm sure you can call and cancel the bottom-choice school, as long as you recognize that doing so will probably nix you from getting an offer there. (but this is just my advice... what do I know? I've just gotten home from my first interview day and my brain is fried!)

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone has heard anything from UWisconsin-Madison. I know they don't do an admissions committee and that they are all based on the individual faculty member as per their website, but I am just curious to see. Thanks.

I would also be interested in this information. Thank you! 🙂

...an official rejection from fordham👎

congrats to everyone who got invited there (and other places)!!🙂

Same here. Also an official rejection from CUNY. 🙁 Oh well. At least now I'm not wondering anymore!!!

Umkc-they called and said with the weather they expect invites to go out next week
UCinn-talked to POI she said that they will go out late next week
Yeshiva-someone said they are still extending invites but I'm not holding my breath for this school
Rosalind Franklin-They said sometime in the middle of Feb
UC Denver-said in a week or two
Nova-said they are still extending invites and that everyone will receive an e-mail one way or another

Anyone hear from UNR today?? Haven't seen an actual invite posted but saw on grad cafe that someone called the school and that they were planning on sending out invites today. I haven't heard anything. Boo. 🙁

I've been waiting as well but no word as of yet.

Hi,
I'm an international student , having a really hard time choosing between 3 schools:
Adler school of professional psy. (Chicago)
MSPP (Boston)
Chicago school of professional psychology (Chicago)

I'll be happy for any input about one (or more) of the three.
The schools sites do not give much info.
THANK YOU!!

Boston is around 3 hours from New York City if that is any help... 😀

Could the person who received the phone-interview invite from Montana please PM me his/her POI? Thank you! And congratulations!

Does anyone know when St. John's will be extending invites? I keep getting emails about online information sessions but no word on when we should be hearing back.

For those of you who received an interview invitation from nyu counseling phd, did you receive it from your POI or an admin staff? I haven't heard anything from them yet, but desperately waiting 🙁. Should I keep my hopes up for a next few days or cross it out from my list? Thanks and good luck everyone! 🙂?
+1 I would really appreciate some info about this as well. Thanks!

Congrats and good luck! Seattle is an awesome city! :luck:

I got an interview the day after tomorrow. Cognition, development and instruction. So far the only interview i got from school. =(. Anybody know some detail info abt this program.

Wish we all good luck.

Ditto for NYU! I was really hoping to secure an invite there.

I applied to 15+ programs this year (my 2nd year applying) and have only secured 1 interview, not sure what else I could have done to improve my app. UGGGGGH! +pity+

Does anyone know if UConn is done sending out invites? I saw on grad cafe that a rejection was posted, but I haven't heard one way or another.

Sorry to hear that, Student4Life0. If I'm not mistaken that was your first choice 🙁. Good luck with the rest of your applications though :luck:

Just got my first official rejection letter! UVM..

123FakeStreet, I dig the violin 😉. I feel your pain, but it only takes one. Hang in there! 🙂

Has anyone heard from University of New Mexico? I called the department last week and they told me they were still nailing down the interview date and had yet to extend invites yet. Just wondering if anyone has since received any new info on UNM's interviews...

It was my first choice, but I have a couple of other very very close seconds 😀 Those schools have yet to send out anything, so I am still very hopeful. I have already gone to 2 interviews, so I think I'm in okay shape. Good luck you to too UhOh!

Nope... I'm waiting on UNM as well.

Congrats on the interviews. How did they go?
Mind to share some experiences?

Now Montana's on here too? Sheesh yesterday was a major flop 🙁🙁

Don't count yourself out! I got an initial phone interview invite for the clinical program at Montana, but it wasn't a mass email, it was from my POI. And if they do it anything like in previous years, they should be sending out phone interview invites for the next week.

Also, I made the mistake of counting myself out at a different school that does screening phone interviews after I saw a couple invites go up on here and didn't get one. Then almost 2 weeks later, I got one, followed by an in-person interview invite a couple days later. My POI there had just been too busy to get around to phone interviews before then.

All rejections so far... still no interviews yet.... How disappointing... I'm starting to look into other options 🙁

I called Denver again yesterday, but they didn't give me a time as to when to they'll be extending invites.. they did say interviews would be in late February AND March, too.. at least now I know it'll only be a week or two more until we hear!

Did anyone apply to Alliant (clinical forensic psych) and/or JMU (combined clinical and school psych)?

Make that 3 who'd love more info on the NYU invites. I really hope they are sending out more rounds of interview invites otherwise this is going to be a really painful weekend--both NYU and Columbia crossed off the already-way-too-short-list.

Any word yet from Boston College or Widener? I know a few interview invites went out already for Widener but they typically make a couple rounds of phone calls--any word on round 2 or 3?? Buller? Buller?

I'm crossing my fingers and toes for Widener, I don't think I could take rejection a second year in a row....

sorry to post this again, but does ANYONE know anything about UWash-Seattle Adult Clinical ???

"2/2/11: Interview invitations have started to go out across most areas of our program. They are extended by the faculty. The Grad Program Office does not have advance knowledge of who will be invited, how many are being invited out, or for how long invitations will be sent out. Please read our FAQ #23-26 for related answers to the admissions process and timeline. Thanks for your continued patience."

This message has been up for a couple weeks though, not really since 2/2

that was posted on 1/19 too... i'm just curious because I haven't seen anyone mentioning it, but it's on the first page that an individual got an invite from their POI 1/18. I'm just curious if anyone else has received any personal communication from the department?

Any word yet from Boston College or Widener?

I've applied to BC's counseling PhD program and my on-line status still shows my application is under review.

Hang in there!

AB🙂

during my interview a faculty informed me that they had not received one of my test scores! i informed them i had taken in as well as received them in the mail. they reassured me they would try to obtain them and i encouraged them to call me if they wanted to see my official copy. SO this made me afraid as i did NOT do well...but also hopeful since they clearly wanted to see me without scores! do you think that my poor score may now hurt me?!?

sorry to post this again, but does ANYONE know anything about UWash-Seattle Adult Clinical ???

I can confirm that my POI's lab (can't speak for anyone else's) conducted phone interviews about a week ago. They told me I should expect to hear from them about in-person interviews early next week.

I don't think that's a bad sign. Did you have to self-report on your application? If you did, they already have an idea of what you've gotten. The official score is just a formality. Must be a sign the rest of your app is great 🙂
