I applied to that track as well, and haven't heard anything yet.
 
This may be a stupid question to ask but while I am reading comments (and I am new to this wonderful forum), I realize that I do not have identified faculty I would like to work with for all essays, only for a few. How did others do it?
BTW: I have not received any invites...sooo, maybe, I am in for next year's round - but still hoping and waiting...I gained a lot of experience this year though...++++++ need to improve my GRE scores

Well not all programs use the mentor model. What type of programs did you apply to?
 
I applied to both, Psy.D. and Ph.D. programs...and now, I wonder whether this model may be more pronounced for Ph.D. programs even though I have mentioned names of faculty for both types or not at all (for GWU, Psy.D. - and have not heard from them)
 
I just saw on gradcafe that the University of North Texas has extended an interview invite via POI for their clinical health program. Has anyone here heard from them yet? I thought I had a really good fit with that program and now I'm getting a little anxious.

Many PhD programs employ a mentor model, while most PsyD programs do not. For both types of programs, you'll want to have some research experience, strong LOR, and clinical experience will look especially favorable for PsyD programs. And of course, a GRE that would pass a cut off.

It seems like you are saying that you applied to some PhD programs without including a name(s) of potential faculty you would like to work with. While I don't think it is ideal, I also don't think that it is a total fail that you did not do this. I think that professors and admissions understand that this is a confusing process that tends to vary from school to school.
If a PhD program you applied to does follow a mentorship model, and you didn't list faculty but explained in good detail your research and/or clinical interests, you just might be okay. From what I understand (at least at my university where I am an undergrad), in a mentorship model program Professor A recieves all applications that list Professor A as a POI (professor of interest) in the personal statement. Because you did not list a faculty member, the initial reviewer might read your personal statement and based on your interests be able to give your application packet to the right faculty member!

I may be totally wrong on this, but I think it is possible so I would not stress too much!! Good luck with everything!!!

yup. GRE is the problem - other than that I should be good. I am a career transitioner, non-trad. student, and English is not my native tongue (probably apparent here); I have presented poster at APA, paper at Div. meeting, have a thesis (but qualitative research...), and a RGA. Well, thanks for the support...👍

Thanks for clarifying and explaining it to me!! Much appreciated. I have one Ph.D. program left that I am currently applying to and, alas, at asks for research as well as clinical interests. I am not 100% about clinical: does that mean settings I would like to work in or/and populations I would like to work with or both or neither of the too? Thanks for any and all advice!!!

I think this could mean many things. First, I think many people have highly related research and clinical interests, although not always. I think including populations and settings you would like to work in would be okay, although many programs also recognize that prospective students may not know exactly where or who they want to work just yet. Some programs even emphasize that they do not expect students to have a theoretical orientation upon entrance. That being said, I think that you can use this section to explain clinical interests however you'd like. Many of my applications did not ask about clinical interests so much but more of why clinical, etc.

Hope this helps, after many applications and nearly begging for advice from grad students, this is what I understand of the application process.

I thought I should add some details for anyone who might be interested. I received the invite via email from my POI, sent this morning. It was a form letter that stated they received over 200 applications and they intend to interview approximately 24 applicants with the intention of admitting approximately 6 students.

Just FYI for anyone else who may have applied...
 
So if people have started to hear back from schools that I've applied to and I've heard nothing so far, how much should I panic?
 
Just heard that Texas A&M is interviewing on Feb 10th & 11th. They just finished reviewing their applications.
 
I feel the same way!

And now A&M just finished reviewing their apps, ugh that's one of my top schools!!! :scared:

Hi all,

I just received an invite for the clinical Ph.D. program at the CUNY graduate center, via email from the admissions coordinator.
 
To the person who posted about A&M meeting, have they sent out invites yet or just about to.
 
Just a few questions:
1. I keep hearing that people are still getting invites from Kent State. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to tell me their POI or I can share mine with you.
2. Did anyone that has heard from Northwestern apply to the GI concentration?

Congrats on the interview!! Your previous post about people receiving invites weeks apart is the only thing keeping me from going crazy right now!!! 🙁

I would be very careful about sharing this at this stage in the process. Although I believe your intentions were good, come interview time anything that exists in the public domain is fair game. Any small thing in a video blog that a professor/current grad student may view as negative may knock you out of the running.
 
I would also like to hear from the people who heard from Rochester and Penn State. Could you PM me your POI? Thank you!!

Thank you for the congratulations! I really do think they do things a little differently there, so definitely don't despair. After I posted my original post I remembered I actually had a THIRD distant aquaintance who interviewed there last year (I guess that's NYC for you) and she also got her invite at a different time than the other two. GOOD LUCK to you!

Please excuse my intense overanalysis...this whole process brings out the anxious teenager hiding in me 😳
 
i got an invitation to interview the weekend of 2/12 from my POI @ penn state very late last night (1/12)...

i was wondering if anyone in this forum:
a) lives in new york and is going to this interview weekend
b) knows of a good (cheap, reliable) route from nyc to university park, PA

I emailed Drexel on 1/11 to find out what their interview dates are and the responded with...

Our interview dates will be February 18th and 21st. We're hoping to start extending invitations over the next week or so.

I have family from the State College area and have heard them talk about a bus route between SC and NYC on the weekends here is the link http://tickets.fullingtontours.com/ look at the New York City/Rockaway Mall/E. Stroudsburg Express and Return. I don't know much about quality of the travel or reliability, but it looks like it could be perfect for a weekend interview. Also you could always look into flying. Sc airport flys to Philly regularly. Perhaps a combination of public transportation train + plane could do the trick. The area truly is very nice. Best of luck with the interview!

I did a quick google search and came up with this link:

I don't know how it compares to airline fares, other bus routes, etc. but it's not terrible. You might also want to look into whether the NJ rail will take you there. I was looking into travel options to Philly and apparently it will get me there for pretty cheap.
 
Hi all,

For those of you who applied to GSU clinical program, I called them today because the application status system said it was missing all of my letters of recs (mini-heart attack). From my phone call, I learned that (1) my letters of rec were received just not printed and sent to the department yet and (2) they are still processing applications due to winter break and the snowstorm. The person I spoke with said that would still be processing application up until next week.
 
I just received an email from Southern Illinois University to schedule a phone interview. This is kind of a preselection phone interview and they will be making their final interview cuts the first week of February I believe.
