2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received a prelim phone interview invite from Minnesota on 1/13. I was informed by my POI that the admissions committee will make final interview invite decisions in the next two weeks, and chosen applicants should expect to hear back before the end of January.

Best of luck to all-

Been lurking for a while now.. Has anyone else not heard anything at all?? I really don't know what I'm going to do if I don't get in anywhere. I applied to 14 clinical Ph.D. programs, 5 with January deadlines, so I wouldn't have expected to hear from them now, but I'm really worried I haven't heard from anyone at all- especially one school on this list which I thought was a great match for me! Ah 🙁

I know exactly how you feel! I applied to 13 different schools and I thought I had a pretty good range and variety. Now I'm worried I didn't do enough!! They say patience is a virtue, but this waiting game is crazy. 😱

Yup..it's definitely the low number I applied to!! I am glad I have a target to blame 🙂

But seriously, I had the thought, that maybe, next year I will have an interview and get into a program I did not apply to this time and will say to myself: this is the perfect program and I am soooo glad I did not get into a program earlier. My way of self- soothing. At least that works! I have control over something here!!!!

Stay positive!!:luck:

Ms. Phipps

I'm in the same boat as a lot of other people! I applied to 10 programs, a few of which have popped up on here already, and haven't heard anything. I keep reminding myself that even though some of mine have sent their invites already - there are still a lot that haven't.

And you're totally right. Knowing that the right choice will eventually come along, whether it's this year or later on, makes me feel much better! If we don't hear anything this time, well, maybe we just didn't pick the right one yet...

Good luck!

Hi all -

Just a reminder to please PM me the following info when telling me of your invite (that way we have ALL the info at once and I can get the list updated quicker). Thank you in advance for helping me keep the list organized!

Name of School
How invite was received: e-mail or call (from whom)
Date invite was received
Type of Program: Clinical, Counseling, School, Other
Degree Type: Ph.D., Psy.D., Combined, Other
Interview Date

I don't think Fordham sent out invites yet. It's usually done via email (check your spam box because that's where mine went yrs ago!). I'm a student in the prog, and we usually get an email asking us to volunteer to interview/meet students at the open house near the time they send out invites.

Has anyone heard anything from Fordham, Yeshiva, or Teacher's College for the Clinical PhD programs?

Has anyone heard anything about the University of Memphis-Clinical Psychology?

If you have the time I wouldn't mind hearing from the person that received an invite from Northern Illinois U.... with POI info.

Thanks.

For those who are anxiously awaiting a reply from UCLA's clinical program, I found out that the department is sitting down tomorrow to finalize candidates for their Visitor's Day. Good luck!

Also, does anyone have information on the clinical psychology programs for: University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Washington at Seattle, and Harvard?

Thanks for the FYI!! I am anticipating that this week will be a busy one for invites. I hope I get one from UCLA!!

Oh and to answer your question, no but I don't think anyone has heard from UW yet -- I applied there and not a peep..

For those fortunate few how have recently (1/16 and 1/17) received phone interview invites for U of Utah would you mind PM-ing me regarding POI's. Much thanks.

For those who heard back from Texas A & M would you mind to PM me your POIs. Thanks!

Hi There,

Does anyone know if Boulder has given out all their invites? If you have heard from them, would you please PM me your POI?

Thank you!

For those who got Vermont invites, could you please please PM me your POI? I just need to know if I need to cross it off my list. Thank you!!

Hi!
I too am waiting to hear from University of Memphis, so please keep me updated as to whether or not you hear from them.

I'm also waiting to hear from UMBC and Syracuse, if anyone has heard from them?

PsychedTriGirl, UNCG has extended interview invitations according to this thread. I was bummed too, don't worry.

UNC-Greensboro, University of Missouri St. Louis, and Case Western? Has anyone heard anything? I need to get some sleep soon, this waiting game is keeping me up at night...😱

Good luck to everyone through the rest of this process 🙂

Oooooh, ok. I saw this from the list on the first page: "UNCGreensboro : received 1/5 via call from POI. Invite for phone interview 1/7 (mentioned faculty meeting in 1-2 weeks and in-person interviews will follow)."

--and took that to mean that official invites hadn't gone out yet. I guess it has been about two weeks tho...oh well. You can't win them all I guess.

UNCG is contacting people this week about in-person interviews. Not everyone received a phone interview, but that's neither a good or bad thing. They were used to gain more info. All in all, I wouldn't give up hope yet!

Anyone else think it's a little to early to give up hope? I've been anxiously following this thread (I'm sure like all the rest of you) and it seems like people are already starting to throw in the towel/ plan for next year. It's still early no? I've received one interview so far, and beyond that only one of my schools is listed. I think for a lot of school the process is just beginning. Last year I received an invite well into February. Just wanted to know if anyone else is feeling like this. Plus I wanted to add some hope to this otherwise slightly daunting thread.

Has anyone heard from University of Arkansas? I saw it on gradcafe, but not here, and last year it looked like the interview was at the end of January, but I haven't seen it here yet.

Yes, it is still early. Please don't give up hope yet.

This is my first time going through the graduate school admissions process. So far I have not heard anything back (email, snail mail, or phone call) from any of my schools. However, from this forum I have learned that my top two choices have already sent invites to prospective students. It was my understanding that if you do not get an interview it is highly unlikely that you will be accepted or even wait-listed. Is my assumption correct? Also, is there a chance that I may get an interview later?

Thanks guys and good luck to everyone.

Someone on here told me they have an interview for January 23-24th.

I applied there also but haven't heard anything. Good luck.

I posted this a bit earlier, but with regard to Harvard phone-interview invites, they've given the super helpful time frame of "anytime between now and mid-february".

Guess we just duct tape our phones to our heads until then.

Another Arkansas post went up on Gradcafe. It sucks, but it looks like there are still a lot of schools that haven't sent out invites yet.

Yes, if you're not invited to interview it is extremely unlikely that you'll be wait-listed, let alone accepted. Don't want to say impossible, but extremely, extremely unlikely.

I have learned that my top two choices have already sent invites to prospective students...is there a chance that I may get an interview later?

It depends on the school. Some programs send out mass-invites all on one day to all the students in which they are interested. However, many schools contact applicants individually...for example, each faculty member will contact their own applicants, and do so on more or less their own schedule. I was an undergrad at Kent State, for example, and they varied widely with respect to who got an invite when based on the faculty member. I'd think that this is the case for other schools, too. In addition, other programs review process is akin to going down a list, moving from one applicant after the next, and contacting those they've deemed acceptable as they go along, sometimes over the course of several days/weeks.

My advice to get a good idea of where your particular programs fall is to go back through last year's interview thread and see how the invites were sent (i.e., on multiple days vs. all on one day, by the POI vs. by the department head, etc).

Best of luck! And hang in there, it's still pretty early in the game.

It is WAY too early. I didn't receive my first invite until late Jan, and once I did the rest came flooding in.

It is still way to early to give up hope. I know everyone is nervous but its too early to throw in the towel. I haven't heard anything back yet but I'm trying to remain optimistic.

I also called Kent State today and they said they are not done sending out invitations. They said they would be done by the end of the month and that there were two interview dates in February. I believe she said the 2 and the 14 but don't quote me on that as I forget. So we just have to keep our heads up high until we know for sure. Good Luck Everyone.

Yes, I agree! I strongly agree! We are all adults and its okay to get our hopes up a bit. I feel better hoping that I could, maybe, possibly hear of something down the line rather than cross things off. Its not being unrealistic, but hopeful like you mentioned. Also, like you said, its still fairly early. With that said, I do have two back up plans laid out (did this while applying though). Thanks for adding some hope to the process.

Can I just get something off my chest? I think some schools are slacking because their interview dates are coming up and they still haven't extended invitations. Slackers.

It might be due to the weather. I know we've had some snow storms on the east coast. Perhaps other parts of the country are experiencing the same problems which is postponing their invites.

This has already been posted but I figured some of ya'll would be interested to know that it's continuing. I received the invite via email for an interview 2/16-2/17. The invite was not sent by my POI but rather another faculty member who appears to be sending them on behalf of 3-4 faculty who all have similar research interests.

Me too please! Or I could send you my POI and you could say Yay/Nay. Thanks so much!

As soon as I get (being positive here!) any invites, I'll make sure to do the same 🙂

Perhaps, perhaps. Thanks for giving them an excuse, phdhopeful2011 😉 Jk

Anyone know when U Maine's interview day is?

I would also greatly appreciate a PM with which POI you received an e-mail from. Thanks!

Hi

Does anyone know if invites for the University of Nebraska at Lincoln have been sent out for just the Clinical PhD program (not the joint MLS program)?

Thanks!

I did that last year.... feels pretty ****ty, since it's such a silly mistake, that I'm sure means a lot. Happens though, you are not alone 🙁

How F'ed am I? I put "I am interested in WRONG University because..."

Everywhere else was correct. What an awful mistake. How screwed am I?

Hi guys, I saw University of Texas at Austin on gradcafe, and I was wondering if it was anyone on here.. If so, if you could send some info my way, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks..

Yup, did that a couple of years ago when applying to a master's program. Don't beat yourself up over something you can't change now..

In other news, I've pretty much lost hope now. All but three of my schools have sent out invites.

Does anyone know if any of my schools will invite me?

....anyone?

....no?

....okay, guess I'll continue to be neurotic 😀

Let's keep our heads up, its only Jan 18th :luck:
