2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did that last year.... feels pretty ****ty, since it's such a silly mistake, that I'm sure means a lot. Happens though, you are not alone 🙁

I agree. It happens especially with all the stress and number of schools people are applying to.

...I did only apply to six schools - not enough to mess up names and maybe, not enough to get a fair share of interviews either

Maybe, it happens b/c you weren't really interested in that particular school?? Answer depends on your theoretical orienantation, of course, and Freud is not lurking behind every prof or admissions person who reads it...soooo, chill and good luck anyway...could be a great ice breaker for the interview :xf:

Sometimes, humor helps

FYI to anyone who cares: University of Alabama will be having their clinical child interviews on 2/4. (Didn't receive an interview, just emailed the office to inquire)

ETA: And Fordham's will be on 2/2, 2/4, or 2/9 (I think...the numerical dates did not match up with the days that I was given). They explicitly said that no interviews have been sent out yet.

I didn't see Fordham on GradCafe or anything yet.. do you know if they sent out all of their invites yet?

Only 2 out of 11 of my schools have been put up on the list! I am already so tired of waiting! Hoping this week and next will be big for invites... come on schools! :xf:

Yes... Actually I did it for my top-choice school. 🙁 So careless. I think it did have to do with the stress and applying to different schools at the same time. Haven't received any invites yet, will probably end up reapplying to programs next year...and proofread like a maniac.

Well. Sorry to hear that it was your top choice. I spend so much time on the four essays for my top school and when I had to copy/paste the documents, it turned out that instead of 1000 characters per essay it meant 1000 characters for the total of four essays which is like three sentences each. A bummer. How can I write an autobiography in about 250 characters...well, and I started late and planned to submit the day of the deadline, December 31st, and was then unable to cut stuff short in a way that I liked it.

I am sure others have similar stories. I am planning to reapply next year.

I agree, proofreading is so important...

No invites have been sent out yet. I just emailed to find out the dates, just in case I did get an invite. 😀

Great attitude. Congrats on that. Love it 🙂

Oh my goodness, was this Widener? I went through that and it was not pleasant..

How F'ed am I? I put "I am interested in WRONG University because..."

Everywhere else was correct. What an awful mistake. How screwed am I?

Everyone who is waiting for interviews is doing the same thing...combing through their apps to see why the phone is NOT ringing. Don't worry. This is a very common error. Some sticklers may rule you out over it, but it is not an application killer. Hang in there...it is still early and schools are slowly churning through hundreds of apps.

Thank goodness. According to last year's invite schedule, I should be hearing from Fordham next (I know, completely neurotic), and since they sent them out around this time last year of course I've been freaking out the past couple days. Thanks for the update. :luck:

Oh my goodness, was this Widener? I went through that and it was not pleasant..

Yes, it was Widener!!! 😀 The way they stated the no. of character restriction seemed a little confusing to me.

And Widener was my first choice. I was so impressed with their program and excited and everything...I should have started earlier. Next year, if I have to reapply, I will.

Since New Years Eve is my favorite day of the year, it s....d; but I did not allow that that to ruin my day...

when I checked my application later on, I saw how a few words where hanging at the border...looked funny...the characters 251+++ I guess...

I was thinking 'my autobiography according to 250 characters...' is funny in the light of a psychodynamic approach. Also, they listed my application as incomplete and when I emailed and asked for the reason I was told that they are still gathering materials and would email with more specific information in regards to what is missing. Time is passing by...waiting is hard...I am exercising patience here. Cheers 👍

Starting to feel nervous but appreciating this thread and the optimism. I read that U of Oregon is finished sending out invites. Has anyone heard from:

U Maine
U Washington
Temple
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Albany
SDSU/ UCSD Joint doctoral program
U Wyoming

Would you PM me with your POI if you have received an invite? THANKS!!!🙄

I'm waiting on University of Illinois at Chicago also. I'd love to know if anyone has heard from them. Nothing on my end...

For those who are anxiously awaiting a reply from UCLA's clinical program, I found out that the department is sitting down tomorrow to finalize candidates for their Visitor's Day. Good luck!

Also, does anyone have information on the clinical psychology programs for: University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Washington at Seattle, and Harvard?

I applied to Univ. of Arkansas too and haven't heard anything. BUT the one person who PMed me their POI was different than mine, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I'll keep them crossed for both of us :xf:

Someone on here told me they have an interview for January 23-24th.

I applied there also but haven't heard anything. Good luck.

Thanks for giving us hope cara! It is easy to forget that it is still early in the process since it feels like we have been waiting awhile already.

It is WAY too early. I didn't receive my first invite until late Jan, and once I did the rest came flooding in.

It does seem like schools are waiting longer this year to extend interview invites. I'm just hoping that the interview weekends don't all coincide with one another.

Can I just get something off my chest? I think some schools are slacking because their interview dates are coming up and they still haven't extended invitations. Slackers.

Can I just say that I'm sooooooooo thankful for this forum? It's really great to know that other people are having the same freak-outs and worries as me. I don't personally know anyone else going through this, so I was feeling kind of a alone in rough waters, but you guys are helping me get through this chaos 😳. This has been my goal for at least 10 years now, and right now, I have nothing but time to kill. Thank goodness I have a smartphone so I can not be glued to my laptop!

Best of luck to all of you!

If it makes you feel better, I totally screwed up 1 of my apps. I applied to 2 state universities in same state and so I wrote an excellent explanation of why I wanted to work with Professor X at State school 1 when in reality Professor X worked at state school 2. Luckily, I realized it when I went to put in application to State School 2 and apologized a ton. I figure it wasn't my top choice anyway and just had to laugh at myself

To answer your question, I'm not sure how it will affect your application. In the books I read on how to write SOPs, it seemed to be a pet peeve of admissions counselors. HOWEVER, I think that some professors might be willing to overlook it if you are a great candidate and fit with their program (IMHO).

Do you know if all the invites have gone out for U of Alabama clinical child? Thanks for the update btw!

I had a phone interview, and they said 80 people applied to Clinical Child, and they were calling their top 20 this past weekend. They also said they were discussing their picks for in-person interviews today and would get back to me today... but that hasn't happened. So I'm crossing my fingers that it's just taking longer than they expected, and that I haven't just not been contacted because I wasn't selected. It's the only school I've heard from, so I was hoping for the best..

My top choice school...*sigh*...I would really, really appreciate it if whoever got an interview there could PM me the name of your POI. Thanks, and congratulations! 🙂

Has anyone heard from ucla?

Congrats to whoever got the invite from Ohio University. It's my top choice so I'm curious who your POI was.

Thanks and congrats again!

University of Texas at Austin went up on gradcafe...if anyone here heard from them, I'd really appreciate a PM!

Yes I saw this too. To anyone who has heard from this school - could you please post the interview date(s)?

Also, I'd appreciate a PM with your POI but I understand if you'd prefer not to 🙂

As another affirmation that schools are not finished with the review/contacting process, I just received an email from Loyola at Chicago regarding a missing item from my application... breathe!

Phew, good to hear news about Loyola U Chicago! My number 1 school 😍. Last year the invites went out the 20th, I don't think they're going to make that deadline if they're asking for missing info now . . .

But good job, they must be quite interested in you if they're asking for your info!

Has just one person on here heard from USC (Univ of Southern California) or multiple? I've heard the individual POIs contact people so it's more like a rolling admission. Can you please PM me your POI? Thank you!

I'm officially freaking out...
I would really appreciate if someone heard from Emory could PM me their POIs.
*big sighs* thanks!

I would really appreciate it if, the person who received an invite from Berkeley's Clinical program PM their POI? Also, congrats!

Has anyone heard from UCLA? I would much appreciate it if you let me know, I got an interview offer from both IUPUI and Univ of Miami which are on the same weekend as UCLA... and UCLA is my priority. But if UCLA already sent out invites then I know I can go ahead and buy a flight to Miami.

It looks like UCLA just popped up on grad cafe. Boo.🙁

Even though I did my research (10 months), this forum is making me more cognizant of the amount of schools around! This will sound naive and utopian, but wouldn't it be amazing if we all could be assured a spot in at least one school?

Additional thought: Wow, I would hate to be involved on the other end of the admissions process...

Congrats to the person who got an invite to UMass Boston! Would you mind PMing me your POI?

I would greatly appreciate it!

Does this include clinical-health?

Last year I didn't receive my first invite until the beginning of February. Believe me its not over yet. University of Cincinnati said they won't be calling people until the beginning of Feb. We have a lot of time even though it feels like this month is slowly dragging on.

CONGRATS to Berkley, PGSP PsyD and UCLA people! Can you tell us how you were informed? Email (POI or secretary), phone, etc.
Thanks!

I cannot fight my obsession but ask the folks who received invites from Ohio U could you please PM me your POIs? I thought it was such a good personal statement that I wrote! I actually thought it was the best one in the schools I applied! :meanie:

Does this include clinical-health?

They seem to be on their own timelines.. I just saw Clinical-Geropsych on Gradcafe, and their timeline is different than Clinical-Child. So I wouldn't give up hope yet! (They even have different interview dates.. Child is 2/3.)

If anyone here got invites/heard from UCLA or University of Washington, could you PM me pleeeease?

If the people who heard from Pitt could PM me their POIs that would be awesome! Thanks and congrats!
