2010-2011 PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just recieved an official rejection email from Depaul:

"Thank you for your application to DePaul’s MA/PhD program in Clinical Psychology. We appreciate your interest in our program. This year, over 230 students have applied for the 3 positions available. As you can imagine, the competition has been quite intense.
I regret we are unable to offer you admission. We wish you the best in your future academic and professional pursuits, and commend you for your accomplishments to date.
Sincerely,
Director of Clinical Training"

so sad

yep, same email just received from the clinical/community track.

2nd year applying, no invites yet, most of my schools have extended invites. blah... what a way to start the weekend. :annoyed:

same here... 🙁 starting to lose hope...

Hi aspiringphD2011 and welcome to SDN! One option is to attend the interview and ask about financing there. If you'd rather not spare the expense to go to the interview when you may not accept a position if offered, you may want to call/email a contact you have at Yeshiva (POI perhaps?) and ask them the best person who would be able to answer your question about this. It's a very good question, I'm sure they'd be glad to help.

Regarding how long you have to respond, some programs are more pushy than others. It sounds like you want your question answered before you attend the interview, so I would first ask your question and get an answer your satisfied with before responding to their invitation.

I did act on this and emailed the program director. The reply I got was "The majority of our students take out student loans to pay for the
tuition. Unfortunately we are unable to provide details about
scholarship money until we make offers, however the money that is
available is minimal compared to the cost of the tuition. We do hope
you are still interested and will look forward to hearing whether you
will be attending your scheduled interview day."

Any suggestions? I see a dead end!

Could the people who received invites from Notre Dame PM me their POIs please? Thank you and congratulations!

I saw someone post on gradcafe that invites will be sent in the next 2 weeks. I'm going to assume that this is because they emailed/called and asked, but it would be helpful if to know if anyone has received an email from the program.
Thanks.

Today I started looking for other things to do with my next year since I hadn't heard from any schools and then I got my 1st invite today! So excited but so nervous

FYI, I emailed with Univ of Virginia Curry School of Education today, and they are still reviewing applications. They've also changed their interview date to Feb 25.

I just got an email the University of Miami's Adult Clinical track and found out that their invites have been sent.

Maybe next time for the []_[]

Great to know! Thanks for the info!

I was wondering about that, too. I haven't heard anything from the program so far.

I called and got the following info for ASU, UMKC, and KU counseling psychology PhD Programs.

ASU - Interview emails will go out starting on Feb 2nd and 3rd for an interview on Feb 25th

UMKC - Interview emails will go out starting Feb 7th for an interview on March 4th

KU - Interview emails will go out starting the first of next week for an interview on Feb 25th.

Hope that helps to all you fellow nervous applicants 🙂

Received an interview invite for Indiana State University's clinical PsyD program, for an interview on either 2/18 or 2/25. Invite was extended through a friendly phone call from the chair along with a mass email from the department secretary.

Hey everyone,

Has anyone heard from George Mason, Boston University, or UMass Boston yet?

THe suspense is killing me!

BU is done sending out interview invitations, unfortunately. I e-mailed them and heard back this morning.

Any word from UNCG today? Someone said yesterday that might be sending out invites today...

So it looks like I've been waitlisted at DePaul (better than a rejection I guess)

"Thank you for your application to DePaul’s MA/PhD program in Clinical Psychology. We have now completed our preliminary review of more than 230 applications submitted to DePaul’s MA/PhD program in Clinical Psychology. You were highly rated; however, we are unable to extend an invitation for an interview at this time. Your name has been placed on a waiting list of unranked applicants. As we continue to collect information and consider decisions, we hope to review the waitlist in early March. We will inform you as soon as possible of any change in the status of your application."

And I have received an invite (my first!) to Indiana State's PsyD program. Like Psychman said, interviews are 2/18 or 2/25

Congratulations to everyone with invites thus far!

Has anyone heard from Xavier's PsyD?

Two of my programs I am still kind of waiting on have posted 2010-2011 applicant stats on their website, including the accepted students. They haven't even had the interviews yet. Guessing it's a bad sign they have already figured out the stats of the people they are going to admit...

2010-2011 are the current first-year students. We're the cohort of 2011-2012. 🙂

I noticed that, but hadn't actually looked before so was uncertain if that would mean from the incoming CLASS of 2010/2011 as opposed to applicants for 2011/2012? Seems odd to say how many are coming when they haven't even had interviews, right?

Anyone hear of notices from U of Florida??

Those are the students who started fall 2010. They applied for the 2010-11 year.

Disregard my end of the work-week, really stressed mistake, lol

Thanks for this, psychapp2011!! I thought I was the only one going crazy and making these kinds of errors!! Try to relax over the weekend. The rat race will commence again on Monday! :luck:

I would also appreciate hearing from those who received invites from Notre Dame (Clinical) regarding their POI's and how they were contacted. Thanks, and congrats!

just got rejected from drexel!!

..."This year we received over 550
applications for only a handful of slots, and the caliber of these
applications was exceptionally high. "

550. insanity.
😱😕:scared:😴👎meanie:😱

I got that email from DePaul too. I sort of assumed they sent it to everyone though. Did other people receive different emails? I applied to the child clinical Ph.D., so I figured that went to all of us who were not invited. I guess this makes me feel a little better.😳 I still have a hard time believing that enough people are going to decline interviews that they would offer me an interview off the waitlist, but who knows I guess!

Sorry, trickynicky. That is insane, indeed!! How in the world would they possibly be able to get to those who are the ones...I am sure you'll end up in the one program meant just for you :xf:

I got that email too. Yikes. I can't believe that many people applied there!

"Please note that we very occasionally conduct a second round of review and
interviews in late February. Therefore, you have not yet been formally
eliminated from consideration. However, it is important to stress that the
chances that you will be granted an interview are very small." 🙁

does anyone know if rochester has extended any invites? if so are they done?

Nah, it seems like most people got rejection emails if they didn't get invited. Only me and one other person posted a waitlist status on gradcafe. Somebody even posted this on gradcafe, lol: "The director of the program got an assistant or grad student to do the dirty work and send out her email. The most impersonal rejection ever, wow, DePaul! Glad I'm not going 🙂"
But, yeah, I'm not too thrilled about being on the waitlist either.

So has everybody who applied to Depaul heard about their status (either interview, waitlist, or rejection)? I don't really know what to think since I haven't heard any news from them.

Loyola-Chicago on grad cafe!

Anyone hear from them on this forum?

U of North Dakota?
U of South Dakota?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Beuller?
Beuller?

I think I may have asked this recently.. buuut.. anyone on the forum heard from University of Texas or University of Houston?

Me too. This week I've been rejected from 5 (some I only found out by calling to find out status) and waitlisted/alternate at 2 programs. This has not been a good week 🙁 I have 8 programs that I haven't heard anything from yet, but at this point I'm not feeling optimistic that I will be offered anymore invites.

Congrats to all those who got invites this week!

I'm waiting on Univ. of Florida too ; not sure if that is a good or bad thing at this point 😕 I got an email awhile ago that said something about their process being long and final decisions wouldn't be made until march/April.

I noticed that, but hadn't actually looked before so was uncertain if that would mean from the incoming CLASS of 2010/2011 as opposed to applicants for 2011/2012? Seems odd to say how many are coming when they haven't even had interviews, right?

so gradcafe has had at least three people post interviews. i'm assuming they've sent them all out?

550? Was there some incentive to apply there this year that I missed?

Seriuosly though, that is scary! I'm still waiting on places like UMASS Boston and some other large schools; I wonder how many applications they will have...

Yes, other people (me included) received flat out rejections. I can't believe there were only 3 slots? I think schools should publish how many openings they have before applications are due!

The online application was free, so pretty much. 😛 I'm not sure I would have applied otherwise, since it wasn't the greatest fit for my interests (so needless to say, I got the rejection e-mail, too!) and this application season has been crazy expensive.

Perhaps they take 1400+ GRE scores and then use an eenie meanie miney mo system - or random assignment to accept, reject, and waitlist piles 🙂 Who knows how they could sort through that many!

How in the world would they possibly be able to get to those who are the ones... :xf:

could the lucky UVA person pretty please pm me his or her POI? congratulations! 👍

Yes, it seems that everyone has heard. I called yesterday and was told that everyone would be notified one way or another. Have you checked your spam folder? If nothing, you could call/e-mail them to see what's up.

So has everybody who applied to Depaul heard about their status (either interview, waitlist, or rejection)? I don't really know what to think since I haven't heard any news from them.
