Interview invite! Pleasantly surprised because I have only gotten rejections in the past couple months. Brooklyn would be cool. 👍

How were you notified? Via e-mail? The status page?

Just curious, wasn't sure how Downstate does this.

Thanks. Good luck!! And welcome to Brooklyn 😉

Thank you! I was notified by email. Interview scheduled for early January. Time to find some warmer clothing, because the warmest thing I own is a sweatshirt... have only seen snow twice. This should be interesting.

So I interviewed Oct. 26 which makes today 6 weeks.... Should I call them to ask for my status or just wait longer?

When I interviewed I missed my bus back to Boston and ended up speaking at length with one of the women that works in the Admission Dept. She said they cannot provide anyone with any info at all over the phone. Since this school operates with decision via snail mail it's really unfortunate, but c'est la vie. She said people call all the time and, "I never have anything to say to them. I can't even tell them if the committee has met on their file because I don't even know the answer anyway."

Haha poor phrasing on my part. I meant the hypothetical group that is usually created by admin based on previous students.

Anyway, I did have another question. Will the health forms come in another packet? I know it was stated registration and orientation materials will come in June, but it said the health forms should be turned by 01 June. semi-confused, but not really. Lol

Good luck to everyone else here!! 🙂

I was wondering the same thing about the health forms... I found pdf files of some health forms on their student health services site... I'm going to call downstate sometime in january and see whether these are the correct ones - http://sls.downstate.edu/student_health/forms.html

I just turned my secondary in...

is that very bad?

i really, really want to go here..it took so long because I was completing all the other school secondaries with earlier deadlines...and I took my time really answering everything to the best of my capability. I really wanted to shine..

I'm so scared...I really want to go here! I'm OOS too...

For the record, it took me about 10 weeks to get a decision (mid September interviewee). lol.

You can call and you'll likely get no answer...or if you're lucky "we havent made a decision yet"

Thanks for the link. My guess is that they are. If you don't mind calling, that'd be great! I saw you asked earlier, but no one responded, so I wanted to echo your question haha.

Just got an invite via email. Hope is not lost for all those still waiting

yes, its late, but you can still get an interview

Thank God!

Accepted. Top choice (I think).

Interviewed Nov 10.
Received the acceptance letter Dec. 13 in the mail.

Does anyone know the average MCAT and GPA for OOS?

Sorry for being annoying, but I interviewed in the first week of October (10 weeks or so ago), and am wondering if I am the only person from that time-frame who hasn't heard anything yet.

Give them a call. Anecdotal but:
A friend interviewed and was accepted in that time frame. Didn't hear back. Called them. Found out that Downstate printed up an acceptance letter and all twice, but never mailed it. They eventually did after this.

I interviewed Mid-Sept and heard back beginning of this month. I'd call them..because I had to do that a few times before I got the letter. Ask to see if a decision has been made on your file, not asking WHAT is the decision, but just IF one has been made.

Im in the same boat, also interviewed in the first week of October...waiting on some Brooklyn love...

Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows the acceptance (not matriculation) stats for OOS interviewed applicants.

Thanks!

That's a good question. Would also like to know the answer.

I was wondering, does anyone know if they send rejections letters right away or do they wait until june?😕

I interviewed yesterday and it was a great experience. They told me that I'd hear back in 8-10 weeks but if I've learned one thing from applying to medical school, its that these time frames don't really mean much.

For those of you who are going to interview here, the interview feedback site on SDN that I was referred to a few weeks ago was wicked helpful. The interview was almost identical to the questions described on the forum.

Also, I am OOs, and was surprised by the number of other OOS applicants that were interviewing with me. My interviewer had commented on the fact that there had been an increasing # of out of state acceptances in the last few years, so that was encouraging.

Good luck everyone!

Hey Guys, just wanted to let you there's still hope. Just got an interview invite today after being complete late July/early August. Best of luck to you all!

ahhh congrats! this is good news! i've been waiting since the first week of sept and thought i was done for haha

Same here. I sent an update/interest letter, so I know have the post-initial review checklist and it says I need to submit the below items, but I was never prompted to do so or received anything in the mail telling me to do so, like the status says or the poster up above who got an interview invite after responding to their request for an update. I don't know if that means I should have waited or not, but I'd do just about anything to get the chance to interview so I sent in an update a few weeks ago.

Did you send your update/letter of interest by mail or email?

Did you send your update/letter of interest by mail or email?

I sent it by mail for two reasons:

-I feel it is more formal and respectful, and shows I'm serious since anyone can just write up an e-mail in a minute (I'm a bit of an old school guy sometimes)
-SUNY-Downstate's admissions process has been all paper based/snail mail based, so I'm going with their system.

For other schools, I mailed update letters unless they explicitly state they accept them via e-mail or prefer them by e-mail.

Just received interview invite today for January 20th.

They say rescheduling is difficult but that is the first day of my college classes. Did anyone else have to reschedule? Just wondering if they will accommodate but if not I can make it.

Thanks, I will probably go with mail as well. I called to ask which one they prefer, and she said it was up to me. But you are right, mail seems more formal.

Actually, I just looked at the very first email I received from them, which states that email IS the preferred method:

Email is our preferred method of communication, so please send questions to us via email at [email protected] When you send an email, include “Medicine applicant” on the subject line, and include your name and AAMC ID number in the body of your email. The designation “Medicine applicant” in the subject line will direct your email to the appropriate staff member for a reply as the Office of Student Admissions serves applicants in our five schools/colleges.

anyone that got "hold for spring consideration" (Post-interview status) send any update letters? or is it better to send it around march/april when they actually start reviewing again?

Bah, I was on that list last year and it's not the best place to be. Sometime in June, they will look at your name, likely you will placed on the alternate list with a VERY VERY slim chance of acceptance at that point. Some people were also rejected early after being placed on that list. After being placed on the alternate list, your chances of being acceptance are also not the best, sorry to say. Good luck!

I know of a couple of applicants who got in after getting the Spring hold (though they interviewed late, after the class was full). Downstate does reject post-interview so there must be a reason they have the Spring hold. I don't even understand the purpose of putting people on hold and not just waitlisting them.

Does anyone know up to where they are with interviews? i've yet to hear from here.

I got an interview invite yesterday. They don't let you schedule your own date. They scheduled me for January 20th...not too far down the road. So you should still be hopeful! I was marked complete October 20th.

I think last year they were still inviting up to mid-late January (or maybe even a little past that).

Got the acceptance letter today! Interviewed Oct. 26, Letter dated on Dec. 21st. OOS with really strong ties to NYC. 🙂

I got my acceptance today (snail mail, no email). Interviewed on Nov 22nd. I'm OOS and have no strong ties to NYC.

ditto. ditto. i have ties.

were you there when that applicant was speaking swahili in the waiting room? maybe that was you...?

Accepted! I received my letter on the 30th, what a wonderful (late) Christmas and Birthday gift for me!

IS-I'm from NYC and went to high school in Brooklyn
GPA~3.8 for overall and science; MCAT: V9/P11/B13
complete 9/17; ii 10/18; interview 11/2; accepted 12/30..so about 8 weeks under review.

As for the rescheduling question--I rescheduled my interview once. I think it's easiest to call the office and talk to Ms. Levine in person. I'm sure it will be fine as long as you call early enough--they probably want to try to fit as many interviews in as possible because it's almost the end of the interviewing season..

Interview invite 2 days ago. Complete 9/29.

I got a interview invite for Feb 2nd after months of waiting. But there are many acceptance already, and it's pretty late in the season, do you think I am going to end up in rejection or hold anyways??
