I want to say that they interview up to April. They told us at my interview in October that they had added more days during the week (Fridays, notably) because they had gotten so many applications this year. Good luck guys!

im a first year at temple med and i was just passing by. we have a good number of engineers in the first year class- mechEs, chemEs, biomed engineers and applied physics engineering majors

Personally, I like to stick to the old "no news is good news". It actually makes me a little uneasy that they made a decision on my app so quick. In any case, I'm hoping for some WL movement soon!

Interviewed mid January, and just noticed the "correspondence sent" AKA waitlist status update. strange because I also thought I did well at my interview, but was definitely weirded out by the fact that I was asked about tuition rates at my accepted schools (indicating that I might not attend temple based on its high tuition).
Oh well.

This is my second tour through the application process, I first applied back in 09, but not to Temple. After having swore off the addiction to checking the forums I've wandered back to offer some data for you to mull over.
I applied to the St. Luke's program and I interviewed back on November 23rd in Bethlehem. I heard back in about 2 weeks that I was accepted to the Temple/St. Luke's program. Right now, Temple is my number one, so maybe I will see some of you next August!
I attended a small, (supposedly!) Catholic private school in Maine (+10 internetz if you know which one) where I earned a 3.92 GPA, Summa Cum Laude honors on graduation. I had various leadership roles as an RA and sports captain, etc.
I was rejected from several schools when I first applied in 2009, and since I have been working for Massachusetts General Hospital doing research. I retook the MCAT and bumped my score up from a 29T to a 34T, added more volunteer experience, more exposure to doctors and a research paper or two to my file.
Hopefully that helps somewhat in determining what Temple is looking for, but keep in mind I have also been rejected from 10 schools this cycle, some with supposedly "lower" standards. The entire process is very capricious, so if you don't get in this year, learn from me and keep trying!

Hi all -- I just received an invite for Temple/St. Lukes!! I have been complete since the end of August, and I pretty much thought my application cycle was over, so this is very exciting. What have people thought about this program? What are the facilities like in Bethlehem? Is Temple/St. Luke's thought to be the same calibar as Temple in Philly? Any input would be helpful! Thanks!

The Saint Luke's program is what primarily drew me to Temple. The smaller class sizes and the ratio of faculty to students is a big draw for me, and Saint Luke's is no podunk country hospital. Add to that all the prep work that Temple is pouring into this to make the program work, and it seems like a good place to be. St. Luke's is the primary care facility in the area, and seems to have a department in every specialty along with associated faculty.
All the doctors I have spoken with think that more clinical experience as part of an education is a great idea, and St. Luke's is big enough that it would provide a good exposure to a varied case load.

CLS what are your stats? and what do your ECs look like? I've been waiting for an invite for that long as well and I've been pretty much assaulting them with updates and still no news.... 🙁 Does anyone know when Temple stops giving otu invites?

Kchen : Stats are 3.7 cum, 3.65 sci, 30Q. Lots of ECs: volunteering - locally and internationally, leadership positions in college, work experience in clinical and research settings. My interview is for March 1, so don't give up hope. If what others are saying is true, and they interview until April, you still have time!

Yep, first year is with the full class at the North Philly campus doing traditional class work, all the gross anatomy, etc. Next three are in Bethlehem.

Center City and Manayunk, are good bets, good nightlife and both a pretty easy commute to campus down one of two major streets (Broad or the Boulevard). If you wanted some place quieter/more residential with an easy commute you could look into NE Philly or Montgomery County, both also requiring a trip down the Boulevard or Broad/611, just in the opposite direction. A few of the hospitals TUSM uses as clinical sites are up around there, too: Abington, Fox Chase, and Jeanes.
If I were single or if it were just me and the hubster, I would also consider Northern Liberties/Fishtown as well. It's also a pretty easy commute to campus, and while I've never spent much time in that part of town, my understanding is that it's pretty popular for students and other 20-somethings and the restaurants and nightlife are supposedly really good.

Hey geekchick, since you're a Philly native (or at least have lived there for a while), will it be a problem owning a car and living in, say, Center City? On the converse, would a car be absolutely necessary, or would it be really inconvenient to not have one? I don't own a car right now but I expect to purchase one before school starts, but I might hold off on the purchase depending on what the transportation opportunities are like.
I did ride SEPTA from the airport when I interviewed, and it was not a very positive experience.. it was slow and ended up taking me 1.5 hrs to do what would have been a 15 min drive, but I arrived late at night and that may have had something to do with it.

Oof, sorry about the train from the airport. I have never used the regional rail to get to or from the airport, but it seems that most people that are flying to Philly to interview have been satisfied with it. The regional rail lines do run more frequently during business hours and the morning and evening commute, though, so I think you are right in assuming the time of day was a factor.
The car depends on a few things. First thing that comes to mind is your parking situation, I'd say. If your living arrangements include a dedicated parking spot it wouldn't be so bad. Driving in/around CC is a HUGE PITA, IMO, and I try to take SEPTA if I'm going downtown. The traffic is an annoyance, but I think trying to find, and paying for, a parking space is much worse. Living car-less is certainly easiest in Center City, too. Between the hubs like Market East and 30th Street Station, virtually every, if not every, train line runs through the area. There is also a network of bus routes but I'm unfamiliar with the ones that run downtown. You can find more about those at SEPTA's website.
The other thing you may want to consider is that you will have to take public transit to class. Your best bet would likely be to take the Broad Street subway line to Erie station, get off there and walk a few blocks south down Broad Street to campus. Funny thing is, someone lit a fire on the Broad Street Subway right before our interview day ended. Erie Station became a mob of angry riders.
After two packed C buses, we were able to make it back to City Hall. Oh, SEPTA.

I live in CC, own a car, and have had few problems with it. I park on the street for $20-30/year. It's not difficult to find a parking space before 5, but I have spent some evenings driving in circles. I usually just leave it parked and walk/take public transit within the main areas of the city, but it is really nice to have if you want to get somewhere off the main transportation lines (or out of Philly). That said, I don't think a car would be a necessity by any means.
hey guys! so I interviewed in October, and got waitlisted in Nov and I was wondering if anyone knows how the waitlist works? i.e. whether or not most people from the waitlist get it/when the movement occurs?

Okay, thanks for the advice! That will definitely help me and the gf make plans if we do decide to move to Philly. It's good to know that living in Philly would be workable with no car, depending on where I live, but I know eventually (before 3rd year) I would have to get a car anyway.
I think initially I wasn't as attracted to living in Philly, just because I'm from Colorado and don't know too much about it. But as time has passed I like the idea of it more and more 🙂

Adcom may meet tomorrow, but that doesn't mean your faculty interview will be present at that meeting to present your file. It could take weeks depending on your interviewer's schedule and other randomness that the adcom does just for kicks and giggles. 🙄

Yeah, its been 10 weeks since my interview. I guess my faculty interviewer hasn't been able to make many adcom meetings.
This morning I received an email from the director of admissions requesting that I send her a copy of my transcript for a course I took this fall. This is the only communication I have received since I was complete sometime in early/mid September. I sent a reply letting her know I had requested the transcript be sent to her attenti
on and then received an automatic reply saying not to send transcripts until accepted. I never even interviewed! I don't know what to make of all this...😕
Umm wow.. a few minutes after my last post I got an invite to interview. Dates available through the month of march. I'm scheduled for 2/24! To all those still hoping for an interview, don't lose hope... and if they ask you for additional info, send it!
