Same, got an email at 11am. I had sent in an update letter earlier this week. I'm scheduled for 2/24 also.
Sweet action!! Go NJ-ers! I'll see you there 😀

hey all, so I interviewed like the second week of January and still havn't heard anything from them and it's been over a month! My status page just says "interview complete"... I"m getting worried because they said they would get back to us in 2 weeks. Is anyone in a similar situation/know what this means? Should I call admissions or just keep waiting?
Thanks!
Hey geekchick, since you're a Philly native (or at least have lived there for a while), will it be a problem owning a car and living in, say, Center City? On the converse, would a car be absolutely necessary, or would it be really inconvenient to not have one? I don't own a car right now but I expect to purchase one before school starts, but I might hold off on the purchase depending on what the transportation opportunities are like.
I did ride SEPTA from the airport when I interviewed, and it was not a very positive experience.. it was slow and ended up taking me 1.5 hrs to do what would have been a 15 min drive, but I arrived late at night and that may have had something to do with it.
There is also a network of bus routes but I'm unfamiliar with the ones that run downtown. You can find more about those at SEPTA's website.
IIRC, it's ranked but they don't tell students their rank on the WL. Most of their movement happens in May and June. I don't remember much beyond that. Does that help?
What does IIRC mean? and does their ranking depend on when their interview was or depending on how "liked" their application/interview session was?
I'm just wondering how much movement their waitlist has because I have heard a lot of people get in from the waitlist.
IIRC = If I recall correctly...
I would assume that if they're ranking the waitlist, it's based on your application/interview/fit, not "first come first serve."
Good luck!
Damn, is this school done giving out interview invitations?
I've lived, went to school in, and worked in Philly for about 20 years, so I can help you out. I commute to center city every day. I live in the burbs and it takes me 35 minutes total from my house to work.
First, if you live in center city, a car is not only unnecessary but will be a hassle with parking, traffic, etc. Riding SEPTA from the airport is slightly different. Depending on which 'line' you live on, commuting to school is very convenient since there is a SEPTA station right on campus (one on clinical campus and one on undergrad). If you live in center city near (say 15th street), you can be at the campus in no time at all.
However, if you live outside center city, then a car might be needed unless you want to take the Regional Rail or something.
Truthfully, save yourself the hassle and pay the little extra for the Center City life. It's safe, it's a nice area, and the commute will be easy and safe. And if you're from Colorado, you will really enjoy the awesomeness of city life at Center City. It's great.
Second option is to live near campus. Yes, we all know about the 'area', but there are student centric locations (mainly undergrad) that are near Temple (main campus) that are safe because it's mainly students. However, if you just live somewhere on the broad street line near Center City, it won't be an issue.
Personally, I would strongly advice against a car. You do NOT want to be dealing with traffic, and parking. You just don't. It's going to add a lot of unnecessary stress. Philly is an old city and some of the streets are narrow - do yourself a favor and don't drive.
Wow, thanks! This definitely makes me more excited about the prospect of living in Philly. I went to undergrad in a very small town in the middle of nowhere, and I would love to live in a big city for med school. Center City sounds like an amazing place to live and if my girl and I decide to go here, we will definitely take a look at living there! She does have a car but maybe we could find a place with one reserved parking spot for it. Maybe. It would also be nice because instead of both of us paying for two cars, we could just share the cost of one car payment. Nice.
Also keep in mind that regardless of where you live you will need a car your 3rd and 4th years, since even if you do all 4 years in Philly the hospitals are not all right next to each other and public transit only runs during limited hours.
I'm thinking of/excited about living in Center City too.
Hey, I'm going to the second look thing 3 weeks from now. May someone please tell me the attire for this?
for those of you who got in... did you receive your news on a friday (which i believe is when the adcom meets) or did it take a few days later into the following week to get the good news? i think the adcom is supposed to meet this friday and id like to have some great news! (i know it could take forever...interviewers never going etc.)
i got the acceptance email on 12/22, which was a wednesday. but that was near christmas so maybe their meeting times differed
I interviewed at Temple on December 3rd. A few days later, I got an email saying that they needed to see my final transcript to make sure i finish the requirement courses. I sent in my transcript mid-january.
I haven't heard ANYTHING. I called a few weeks ago and all they said was i should be hearing back soon.
Did anyone else get an email requesting a transcript? or is this because they thought my academic records were questionable? (My GPA isn't very high)
My status on the TMO page just says "Interview Complete", like it has been for months now. What should I do? I really really really want to go to Temple but at this point the situation looks completely hopeless and i haven't been able to sleep well for weeks... Are they even accepting people anymore or is it mostly waitlists?
I don't think it has anything to do with the final transcript. I interviewed on December 10th and still haven't heard back. When I called, they told me my interviewer, Dr. Black, hasn't been able to make it to the adcom meetings and they don't know when he will.
So if you had him as your faculty interviewer then we're both probably going to be waiting a while...
I got moneys. 😀
I got moneys. 😀
Thank you! The scholarship I've been given is a "TUSM Academic Merit Award" and the email said it was given to students with "outstanding prior academic achievements." I'm attributing it primarily to my MCAT.
It's for nearly half tuition. I'm freakin'. I hoped for this but never expected it, especially not a scholarship that substantial.
Holy crap that's awesome geek! I hadn't really even thought of the possibility of scholarships. Although a scholarship might add a complicated (albeit awesome) wrinkle in my school selection come May. And just when I thought the anticipation/anxiety of hearing from schools was nearing an end... I guess it's time to extend my neurotic email-checking by another 2 months.
Why is that? On my interview day we were explicitly told that MCAT and GPA were the only things looked at for the scholarships (though perhaps undergrad attended counts as well), and that scholarships go up to 20,000 per year. I'm pretty sure your MCAT is in the top 2% or so at Temple.Thank you! They were vague as to how each one was weighted, but I'd guess that MCAT is weighted more since there's much greater variability. The 20k scholarship was the biggest reason I was disappointed with my waitlist here, although it would still be 10-15k more than my state school, so I wasn't that disappointed. I'd bet though that getting a scholarship after coming off the waitlist has almost no chance of happening, though I never heard it confirmed one way or the other. My MCAT is very high but my cGPA is completely average for Temple, and while I hoped it would earn me some money, I would expect that kind of money to go to someone with an MCAT of 35+ and a GPA higher than mind. I wouldn't expect a scholarship from anywhere, though, man, especially for nearly half tuition. That's a good way to get a big dose of disappointment. 🙂
