Accepted!!!!! 😀

I also interviewed Nov 2nd. I got the call at 11:30am (Pacific time). Exciting!!!

For anyone interested....my call came from a 781 number.....

Also, anyone hear about the MPH program yet?? Perhaps people from the first round of acceptances?

Got the acceptance call right as I was walking into Central Park on a first date that was not going well at all. My date didn't believe that I just got into med school, but I took the opportunity to chuck the deuce.

I'd like to personally thank Dr. Neumeyer for saving me from a horrible date.
 
I got accepted as well, last Thursday. I got the phone call from a 617 area code I believe. Can anyone accepted earlier in the year let me know how long it took to receive an email or letter? I'm starting to think I might have been hallucinating!

I interviewed here on 11/9 and no call yet, so I'm bracing for bad news, but this story is just so awesome I may not care what happens. 😉
 
I interviewed 11/8 and I got nothing yet.
 
Have there been any more notifications of any kind today?

Interview was quite laid back, two one-on-one interviews in a row. I felt that they really wanted to know who you were as a person, not necessarily all the amazing things you have done and your GPA, test score, etc.

Interviewed last Thur of October, still no call/letter.

Looking at some past threads it looks like calls can still go out Mon/Tue without order or pattern; but that's it.

I'm sure some people will hear today/tomorrow, and letters probably trickling in this week. Too early to panic, but close. Good luck yal!

Looks like I'm still stuck in "deferred status" land. Anyone else that was deferred hear back from them?

I don't really know what to expect from this. Like...is it them just being nice until January and then placing me on the waitlist? Or am I still actually actively being considered? Anyone know?

hi irish - I'm in the same boat. It's pretty agonizing. I'm going to make another plea to the app pool: Anyone hear anything after being deferred yet?
 
I'm with Irish, except I feel like putting someone in a deferred decision category only so they wouldn't have to say you're wait listed would be cruel and unusual...as opposed to nice.

If anyone calls in to ask exactly how under consideration we deferred applicants still are, please post 🙂 thx and :luck:
 
Wait...so you three all got letters saying you were deferred on this round of notification? So they're no more calls coming out?

They got their deferrals on the last round, so don't fret just yet. (although I'm already assuming I'm not getting any good news, either.)

Just got an invitation to the deferral club. All this waiting is driving me crazy.
 
How did you find out abt the deferral, email?

Differed too. Sad. It's odd the reject so few people post interview. Most if these deferrals are basically rejections.

wait a deferral is a rejection? is there an actual waitlist?
 
From what I've gathered at other interviews, a deferral doesn't automatically mean a rejection. While it could ultimately end in a rejection, there's still a chance you could be accepted or waitlisted. I'm sure schools defer people so they can finish interviewing and get a better idea of what the incoming class will be like. It makes sense to me why they'd do that, but it sucks a** to be told to wait even longer for a decision.
 
^what dcjpitt said. It's kind of hard to speculate on what that means for your chances without knowing statistics on the number of deferred applicants and the number of offers made in a review cycle (assuming that the number of new applicants entering a review cycle remains constant). I think EnginDoc's point was that one would effectively treat it as a rejection for the purpose of planning. *shrug*

What gets me is that I checked last year's board, and it seemed that they did not have deferrals. As in, they told you right away whether you were accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. So I have no idea what it means to be deferred.

Also the email states very clearly that being deferred does NOT = waitlist.

So yeah that's why I am so curious (also because I want to be accepted too :laugh:)
 
One of my friends at work thought it might be like this: "It's like making a pact with your best friend [of the opposite sex] that if neither of you are married by 30..." :laugh:

4. Hold, under consideration, deferral (different names at different schools). This is the category that means they want to compare you to more interviewees before making a decision prematurely cuz they may find someone they want to accept over you but they may find that the later candidates are not who they want and that they want you but they want to have a better idea of more candidates before making premature decisions and filling seats so that people who may interview later that are strong applicants still have a chance.

how many does tufts interview/accept? I believe msar said 1/4 so I assume overall about 35-50% get in (factoring going from wl to acceptance). not sure if I can entirely trust the msar book. Princeton Review said half of interviewees get in. Anyone have an actual number.
 
Haven't heard anything from Tufts since an email confirmation that my secondary was being reviewed (10/12). It seems like they have already had tons of interviews and given out plenty of acceptances (congrats to everyone in the message board), so am I SOL on this....or is it still possible to get an interview here??

I know they still have several interview days open..Maybe call/write to express your interest?

I'm in the same boat as you! I was complete 10/12 and haven't heard back yet. Is Tufts receptive to pre-interview letters of interest? I want an interview here before they run out!!!! :scared:
 
I have a question for any Tufts students who can answer. I was reading that the sub-I required in 4th year has to be half fulfilled in advanced medicine or advanced surgery? What exactly is advanced medicine or advanced surgery?

I would imagine the majority of their record keeping is done digitally. The content of your letter is likely far more significant than the means with which you send it. I've done two update letters (pre and post interview) both via email (attached as a PDF). They accepted both. I'd just limit it to work/research/publications and other major events, otherwise you're just distracting from other parts of your application.

As to the deffered status, I've been told it just means you will be evaluated later (i.e. you were not really considered in that round of voting). This is essentially a waitlist (you can be pulled in at any round month by month); I see ZERO difference between this and a waitlist. I expect they'll eventually form a formal waitlist, but remember guys, Tufts rejects VERY VERY few people after interview. One of the guys who spoke at the interview told me that the only person he's heard of getting rejected asked his interviewer on a date. So other than really messing things up, you'll all get accepted or deffered/waitlisted. We all have quantified scores, so we'll likely be reviewed in that score order. With earlier interviewers likely having the highest scores.

Does someone has RECENT stats on interview/acceptance?

I dont have a copy of the MSAR but according to http://www.eduers.com/Medical/Massachusetts/Tufts_University_School_of_Medicine.html

6854 applied, 844 interviewed, 493 accepted, 173 matriculated (Fall 07)

And if the dating thing is true, that is hilarious. Maybe the guy already got an acceptance somewhere he wanted to go to and did it just for kicks. :laugh:

Congrats! I've contemplated the MD/MPH but I was concerned with cramming it all into 4 years and missing out on selectives. But I'll probably still apply to have options. Congrats again!

Thanks! I was worried about all of that too. I have a friend in the program and he loves it. Everyone I talked to told me that although you miss out on the selectives, you get other patient experiences as part of the MPH program. It seems that missing the selectives does not leave you less prepared/trained than the regular MD students.

Yeah, everyone I spoke to said the same. I guess another concern is that right now I'm open to any speciality so I don't want to force myself into a certain one just to connect the MPH with my career.
