Alright, I am getting a little nervous here. I received the complete email in Mid August and still haven't heard a peep. Does this just mean that my application hasn't been reviewed or am I on perpetual hold?!?! Please someone shed some light on this.

At least you GOT a complete. I submitted my secondary on 9/6. NO complete, (except for that stupid "form submitted) thing, and no interview T_T. Then again, my stats are nicht geit, so maybe no news really is good news in my case.

Still, I'm trying to keep hopeful. Tulane has one of the best programs in the country for rural medicine/underserved practice. What I wouldn't give to be a French Quarter MD!

(Heck, I'd even settle for a French Quarter DO!)

Hi all,

Can anyone share your thought about the secondary question #3: Are you participating or have participated in a study abroad program at your university?

I wonder why they ask this question.... Other schools don't seem to care too much about the study abroad experience....

Thanks for any reply.

I think they ask this because Tulane is extremely big on 2 things (excluding academics of course):
1. community service/volunteering.
2. lots of experience outside of academics, I would say more so than many schools. One reason why they love non-trads.

I did a masters program here last year in hopes of getting a shot at their med school but got no love. Wasn't rejected until the very end (March), but I wouldn't count that as anything lol.

CONGRATULATIONS to you both!!!! That's awesome 🙂
Where did you stay during your visit to New Orleans? Any recommendations?

Congrats to those who heard back already😀

I'm waiting to hear.. interviewed 9/27.
Hoping to join that facebook group soon

I stayed with a student host which worked out perfectly and I would definitely recommend it! She showed me around the city, took me to dinner at an awesome New Orleans restaurant, and dropped me off right at Admissions in the morning. 🙂

Yes, after I confirmed I received an additional email.

Odd. I confirmed on Thursday and still haven't received confirmation from Tulane themselves. Hopefully I'll hear back soon as I already bought my plane ticket.

And yes I did receive a complete indication. I wouldn't worry about it.

Same thing happened to me (I rescheduled). After a week I called the office and received a confirmation email that afternoon, haha. It seems like only one person handles all of the correspondence, so maybe he/she is a little backlogged.

Did anyone interview early october or late september and not hear back yet? I am thinking of calling tomorrow.

Ronaldo, I'm in the same boat. I interviewed Sept 20 (Tulane's 2nd day of interviews) and was expecting a final decision on Friday. Haven't heard a thing. Pretty nerve-wracking, huh?

I am in the same situation you guys are in. Interviewed Sept. 27 and no word back yet. My girlfriend interviewed Sept. 20 and got her acceptance letter on Friday. I called the office today wondering if they only send out acceptances one day a week or something like that and I was told they basically send them out whenever they get the chance. Good luck guys

interesting. Did you ask about your file specifically? Would they tell if one is accepted/rejected/waitlisted over the phone?

Yes, me too. Interviewed 9/27 and haven't heard anything since. Trying to decide if a call is worth it.

Yes. Interviewed Oct 8 and haven't heard. Wouldn't have expected to except someone did from my day (see above).

Just trying to be patient. I really liked this school, I haven't heard back from any of the schools I interviewed at in Sept and I'm just trying to stay positive. It's hard to not be crazy about this. :scared:

No I didn't ask specifically, I figured they wouldn't even consider telling em over the phone. Time to play the waiting game.

Just got the email - waitlisted

Interviewed 10/1

Also waitlisted/placed in the "Acceptance Range." What happened to 80% of Tulane interviewees being accepted?

Yep just got the waitlist email too. Ehhh whatevs

Also waitlisted *sigh* At least it is not a rejection.

That's more waitlisted people in a row than I'd expect to see, especially with the quality of people that are on SDN. Is it possible that they send out WL notifications first, before most acceptances?

Anyhoo, I hope the waitlist moves for all of you!

where did you get this figure from? Seems a little high for me, but it could make sense if the waitlist traditionally has quite a lot of movement....I would love for that percentage to be true.

Father Don said 500 students are being interviewed this year for a class of ~180. I would guess they have to accept 2.5x as many students as will matriculate, which is 450. So 450/500 is 90%, even higher than I said. I honestly think most people in the "Acceptance Range" will be accepted...certainly they accept more than 20% of interviewing students, which is what it looks like right now.

I received the complete email 8/25 and received an email invitation to interview today - scheduled for Nov 19. I think they are just slow. Be patient.

Thank you for the feedback. I was really beginning to worry!

Class of 2014 Stats:

Class of 10,038
438 applicants interviewed
348 applicants accepted

interesting. I just looked at the tulane magazine which does list the stats for 2014 as you have listed them. Surprising because MSAR claims 531 people interviewed. Isn't MSAR based on what Tulane reports to them though?

edit: maybe MSAR represents class of 2013?

Very interesting observation... which figure do we trust?!

(I'm leaning towards the school magazine..)

348/438 = 79.5% acceptance rate. I was close enough. I really don't understand having an "Acceptance Range" category if the acceptance rate is that high. It's a total turn-off.

I'm still worried that I won't be in that 79.5% 😱

So, I know this has been pretty rampant, but I submitted 9/14 and STILL have no complete email. I haven't seen anyone post about the situation in about 1 week, so was wondering if anyone else is still in this boat? Just making sure 🙂.

I submitted a week earlier than you, and nothing. Somehow I don't think it's a good thing (regardless of previous tales), but there you go.

I submitted my secondary on 8/27, and just got the complete email earlier this week. 10/18

80% acceptance rate also considers waitlisted people who get in eventually. Apparently back in the day, they accepted close to 350 outright before may, and the waitlist barely moved at all. But one year, they ran into problems with too many students enrolling, since you can never know for sure what the yield will be on any given year.

My theory is that now they still end up accepting around ~350 (based on that data someone provided), but by underaccepting at first, waitlisting many people and then accepting them as space provides in may, it basically ensures that enrollment will be smooth and not go over.

And I have good reason to think that lots of people are waitlisted...the e-mail says that "While some applicants are accepted into the class immediately following this initial committee review, the great majority of (interviewed) applicants are placed into the Acceptance Range category."Honestly, I think all of us are very much still in the running. 👍
