I got this email right after I submitted the secondary on 7/12:

"The online form that you just completed has been successfully submitted
and time-stamped.

If you have any questions, direct them to [email protected]"

I assumed it was the confirmation email but I guess I'm not sure. Has anyone else gotten this?

I got that email as well. The day after I submitted.

Hey guys, I am planning on applying to Teach for America as well as medical schools this summer. My question is, on Tulane's application there is a place to check Teach for America applicant. Do I only check the box if I have completed the Teach for America program, or if I am applying? Thanks for the help.

SoonerLuke, i would assume you would check that if you have done or are in that program ... not if you are still applying to it. but, you could always call admissions and ask. and if you are accepted to the program you could send tulane an update about it

Deciding whether or not to apply here with my stats: MCAT 27 (7 in VR) and 3.95 GPA OOS. Any advice?

That's a killer gpa! 🙂 way better than mine. OOS is not really an issue here. I think it's like 60-70% oos. The only thing that might hurt you is having a sub 8 MCAT section, but that would hurt you anywhere since from what I've heard many schools have an 8 cutoff. However, I think with your gpa being so high you still have a chance. I'd apply, but then I'm applying with a 3.3 and 28Q (10-10-8), so I'm a stretch candidate myself.

I think you're in a better position than I am 🙂

Yeah, I'm still bummed out about the 7. 🙁 but I'm making sure that the schools I'm applying to don't have an 8 cutoff. I'll just contact Tulane. With regards to the 7, your 28 MCAT is significantly better than my 27. Good luck this cycle!:luck:

Why dont you retake it. I am pretty sure your smart enough if you have that kind of GPA. I would be worried unless you are a URM. I have a URM friend who had high GPA like that and nice ECs get into mayo and duke.

Yeah I also have a high GPA but sub-average MCAT score (29). I got a 7 on verbal too! I retook on July 16th though, so here's hoping that score comes back more balanced

It's if you've completed it and are applying as a corps member, in which case they waive your application fee. If you are applying (and are accepted into both-- good luck!), they will then let you defer your matriculation and who knows, maybe even refund your application fee. They love TFA at Tulane.

For anyone who's wondering, I called the admissions office and they told me that if you got that vaguely-worded e-mail about the document being submitted, your secondary made it in, and they just started the process a couple days ago of compiling all the information regarding who is complete and whatnot.

when the secondary asks what program you're applying to - New Orleans Cares or the Baton Rouge one - what exactly does this mean? is the new orleans one the main campus? I clicked on the "more information" link but still was unsure. I just want to apply to the main program

The New Orleans Cares program is the main program. the Baton Rouge one has the first two years in New Orleans, then the third and fourth years in Baton Rouge. According to Tulane's website...

"The LEAD program is innovative in several ways. First, it will focus on longitudinal care, giving students the unique opportunity to follow and work with the same panel of patients within an assigned doctor’s clinic for at least a year. The experience allows students to participate in the continuum of care for their patients for much longer than typical clinical rotations, which last up to eight weeks.

Secondly, it will emphasize healthcare policy and leadership. In their fourth year, students will be able to participate in rotations in health care policy and operations with various state agencies and health care organizations located in the state’s capital city. These rotations may include internships within the state’s Department of Health and Hospitals. There will also be opportunities for interdisciplinary education and training, as the Baton Rouge General nursing program and students from the University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy are also on-site."

So it sounds like in the Baton Rouge program you spend more time with the same patients, and perhaps there is more emphasis on policy and such. Hope that helps 🙂

Still not getting a link to the secondary after I log in (just the weird "thank you for registering" message). I'm a reapplicant but I don't know why they'd send me an email when I can't even access the secondary. Has anyone figured this out yet? Should there normally be a link to the secondary once you submit your email and amcas id or am I missing something?

I had the same problem earlier. Just send them an email and they'll fix it for you pretty quickly.

quick question ... i have this volunteer experience that i was going to use for the most meaningful volutneering question, but i already wrote 2 paragraphs about it in my personal statement. it was very significant, but this would probably go in the category of repeating myself right? so should i pick the second most meaningful volunteering and write about that instead? or try to write about the other one in a new way?
thanks 🙂

I wrote about something completely different than what was in my personal statement. However, if your experience was very significant, then you could probably elaborate on it from a different angle or new perspective. I would just be careful about sounding overly redundant.

submitted 7/22. still no complete email.

Yep, 6/30 submission for me. It can't be that long before we start getting confirmations though if they go by the same timeline as last year, since they sent out their first interview invites in mid-August.

if i am interested in doing md/mph here, but did not specify that on the primary, do i still select that on the drop down menu? im confused bc on their website they say ppl who want to do the md/mph program apply to the mph part AFTER they have received an md acceptance ... so is htis to see who is interested? or who has somehow already applying for the combined program?

If I recall correctly you only can select between MD and MD/PhD programs (if the school had an MD/PhD program) on the AMCAS application. Other joint degrees aren't included there, so go ahead and choose it from the drop down if you are interested. 🙂

Submitted Secondary: 07/02/2010

Received e-mail stating my application was complete: 08/04/2010 8:30 am, CST

Hopefully! I submitted on the 29th and got a complete email today! I'm surprised it took so long to be "complete".

So before I call them and have them yell at me 🙂)), has anyone else who submitted in late June or early July not received a complete email?

Yeah I submitted 7/17 and haven't gotten one yet.

Submitted 7/6 and haven't heard

I submitted the exact same day. 🙂 Some of the posters above us submitted 7/1 and were complete yesterday, so I'm going to give it until next week before I get concerned.

Yeah, that's why I'm concerned. I submitted 6/29 and people after me are getting complete emails.

So I tried to call and got their voice mail? weird..😛

Oh well, leaving tomorrow for vacation, I'll just pester them when I get back if I haven't received it then!

That's a bummer. Enjoy your vacation — hopefully it will help take your mind off the waiting process! I'm sure if you could casually check in with them when you return. There's a difference between being a concerned applicant and a total gunner... don't cross the line and you'll be fine. 👍

just got a completion email from tulane, submitted early July

Same. When does Tulane generally send out interview invites?

I called them up today about this and pretty much all I got was a "well they are being reviewed pretty quickly due to low volume right now. But later on it will take longer." The woman sounded pretty busy so I didn't want to keep probing her for a timespan. But hey, it could be any day now right?
I really like this school because it is so service oriented.

just got a completion email from tulane, submitted early July

submitted july 22 - still no complete email. wondering at what point i should call and ask where my complete email is...but i also don't want to be a pain

I wouldn't worry, I haven't heard anything and I submitted 7/17.

Submitted 7/6 and complete prob 7/20something and havent heard anything

I meant - complete as in i know when everyone else got my LORs....

But I suppose, technically, seen as i havent gotten their email, you are right

Submitted 7/6 and wasn't complete until today. I hope I didn't miss this when I was reading the posts above, but is there a status page? The only link I have is for the secondary, which is just a confirmation that our application was submitted online.

I don't think so. It is my understanding that we just need to wait for notification...
