So I sent an email to admissions confirming my interview attendance. I didn't get a response, and every time I try to call Admissions, I always go to voicemail. People who interviewed the last cycle, did you ever get a response?

I had the same problem when I got an interview. Give them some time. I always complained how slow the admissions office works... until I started dealing with other schools lol. Congrats on the interview invite. Can't wait to see you all there 🙂

Did you guys all write ~7000 characters for the essay? 😕

Mine seems like its going to end up about 4000....

two pages in the standard windows 7 version basic font with a few pictures and headings. print it to a PDF and you're set. don't worry about the character count as much here (at least that was my take on things) but try and keep the page limit manageable.

would also avoid using symbols like this 😎🙄😀:scared:👍

and instead stick to things like this "I want to be a doctor because I love math and science and helping people and working in a team and saving lives and curing cancer and smiles and hugs!!"

best wishes!

When do they first start handing out decisions? I hear there is a national day before which no school can announce acceptances. October 15 I think.

I think every 2 months starting with October 15th, and then eventually rolling right up until the first day of school. By no means certain here.

here's hoping in a month I hear from VTC with the words "acceptance" :xf:
I'm pretty sure I messed up the interview though. Got too hyper meeting new people every 10 minutes and the scenarios were so fun... i forgot i was being interviewed. Pretty sure at some point I said part of the reason I applied to Roanoke was to learn more about rural medicine and living in rural areas...only to two seconds later realize that my interviewer might not think of Roanoke as a rural region but rather a city. ughhhh. But pretty much every interview I sad something silly like that. It still haunts me. 🙁

Man oh man I wish I hadn't said the things I DID say at my interview. You saw me and I am super hyper and bubbly and I was fist bumping people and laughing and joking around with my interviewers and of course I said things that after the interview I actually had my forehead meet concrete at the airport. ::so dumb:: I pretty much said the Podiatrists were useless doctors in one of my interviews (without knowing what type of doctor I was talking to) haha. I'm in this school and some of my answers still haunt me!

But don't be stressing, nothing wrong with a big smile and a big heart!

Some people have been wondering about scores of this school. Just to clarify, the stats of our MCAT scores for those who were accepted and those now attending the school are actually the same.

I am also working on getting more people involved in student hosting so let me know if anyone here is interested in being hosted for the next interview ASAP and I will set you guys up on a first come first serve deal. Just PM me.

And for the people that are coming to the interview this month, I will be seeing you guys after your interview so come with questions! Can't wait to meet all of you! 😀

thanks Panda9! Glad to know that someone else has haunting answers and still was accepted. The one above isn't even the worse one... I just feel too silly to even mention some of the dumber responses, haha.

Panda, stop posting on SDN and start studying! But yeah, the first time I met this girl was at our VTC interview, we sat at the same breakfast table, and she was way too bubbly for me at 8 am in the morning. (She pretty much still is.) But our class feels more and more like a family the longer we're here; we're all different in personalities, backgrounds, life stories, interests, etc. but we get along really well 🙂 I never thought I'd enjoy being at such a small school, but I gotta say, when you're freaking out and stressed over all the academic challenges, it's nice to have a family away from home to commiserate with. Probably a third of our class all had dinner together last night at Panda's place, and we all spend a lot of our weekends together as a group. We're even starting to hang out more with some of the kids with whom we have interprofessionalism class--the PA and nursing students at Jefferson College.

But yeah, seriously you guys, don't stress. We've all said silly things in interviews that we wish we could take back, and look where we are.

Anyone know if there is a link where you can check application status? I sent an email to admissions, who replied "You may check the status of your application by clicking the Details link in the Account Info section"

... only problem is I can't find the "account info" section...

If you click on application for enrollment, on the bottom left it'll have a paragraph about the status page. If you click on the "transaction history" link, it'll show you your receipt. Mine just updated from "data sent, pending confirmation" to "data sent, received, and confirmed!"

Edit: alternatively, you could just click on "review your activity" on the main page and that will get you there. It didn't work for me before, hence the late addition.

This thread has been really dead. No news here? Or have they already sent out a ton of interview invites?

Hey everyone!

Much like the last round, the interview session was GREAT! 😀 I think one of the things that stood out to me the most was how EXCITED everyone was, from administration to the students, to the townspeople (there was a sign in the airport welcoming the charter class!). The student q & a at the end was great, because the students were very honest about their perspectives, and didn't try to unnecessarily play up the school because admin officials were there. The actually interview process was definitely intense, but they are not joking when they say its fun!

The area is beautiful, as are the facilities (Roanoke memorial is absolutely gorgeous from the outside!).

It seems like there are a few kinks that need to be smoothed out (mostly with technology), but nothing more than would be expected from a new program.

I am definitely excited and very very hopeful:xf::xf: to hear back from this school! One of my top choices for sure!

Great to hear the interviews are going well for everyone! Does anyone else have experiences they're willing to share? The batch of interview invites for 9/25 came out the week after the 8/28 one, so here to hoping! 😀:xf::xf:

Are the first batch of acceptances/WLs (hopefully no rejections) going out on Oct 15?

Pre-secondary rejection. OOS, less than 30 MCAT. Not shocked at all.

anyone got interview invites for october yet? so anxious...:scared:

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what the chances of getting an interview at Virginia Tech are after being screened in? I have heard that they really only give you a secondary if they are "very interested," but have there been any rejections that people know of so far? I'm just trying to figure out whether or not to do my secondary application. I really like the school but, as always $$$ for potentially little return...ideas anyone

jpdc, I know where you're coming from. I have to say though, this application is only $50 which I consider to be very reasonable for this process. It can't hurt to send it in unless you're having serious financial hardship, if you don't send it in you'll never know if you could have gotten in here!

eveangel and ihatebookworms, I was wondering the exact same thing. I am really excited about this school because of its research focus and how excited and helpful everyone has been on this thread, current students and admin included. Here's hoping for good news!

Received an interview invite today for October 30th! So excited 😀

congrats on the invite! 👍

guess i got passed over 🙁

Eveangel...same here 🙁

That said, I don't think it's time to panic. Just keep your fingers crossed that "passed over" doesn't mean rejection here...also, obsessively looking at last year's thread, I'm not entirely certain that all of the invites for a certain date go out the same day

Yeah you're right, the same thing happened this year. I got an invite for the 8/28 interview a few days after some other people posted that they got invites. So don't worry about it yet.

Complete 9/13 ("confirmed" on that date)
Invited 10/08!

How exciting.

OK..... less than 48 hours until the first words from VTECH. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me an acceptance. I will 100% go there and it will save me so much time/trouble going on other interviews! 🙂

Where can we find the notification? Will it only be via mail, or can we check online or call?

Hey everyone! Wishing you all good luck tomorrow and I can't wait to hear the good news from everyone! If you are accepted, Dr. Workman will call you so I would answer all (540) numbers! You will also get a confirmation email of your acceptance. If you are waitlisted or not offered a waitlist spot or acceptance you will be notified via email.

:xf: crossing my fingers for you all! 😀

I LOVED this school when I visited. :xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::xf: good luck to everyone anxiously awaiting tomorrow!

From VTCSOM Admissions:

Under the rules established by the AAMC, medical schools can issue their first acceptances for regular MD programs for the 2010-11 admissions cycle on Monday, October 18.

VTC will first notify applicants offered an acceptance by phone, followed by an acceptance letter.

Why is it October 18, when other schools such as University of Kentucky are releasing their first decisions on October 15? How can UK release decisions by Oct 15 if the AMCAS release date is Oct 18th? So confused... Someone please clarify thanks!

To Admission Officers:

Since October 16, 2010 is a Saturday, medical schools that notify applicants of admissions decisions electronically should notify Regular Decision Program applicants of acceptances either over the weekend or on Monday, October 18th to maintain the spirit and intent of admissions “traffic rule” #3 (below). It would be in appropriate to notify these applicants of acceptances on Friday, October 15.

AAMC Recommendations for Medical School and MD-PhD Admission Officers:

3. Each school notify all applicants - other than Combined College/M.D., Early Decision Program (EDP), and deferred matriculation applicants - of acceptance to medical school only after October 15 of each admission cycle. It may be appropriate to communicate notifications of decisions other than acceptance to medical school to applicants prior to October 15.

I got the call about two hours ago! Really excited about getting in here, I loved the school and Roanoke, it was an amazing situation!

For those who haven't heard anything, I remember them saying at the interview that very few students get accepted on the first day, and that the bulk of their acceptances are their next round which I can't quite remember when it is, so keep hoping 🙂

Congrats on the acceptance! I just checked the website for acceptance dates, and it said:

VTCSOM uses a rolling admission process and plans to send out acceptance notifications on: October 15, 2010; December 15, 2010; and March 15, 2011.

Also, if anyone is curious:

For 2011 admission, interviews will be held on the following Saturdays:
  • August 28, 2010
  • September 25, 2010
  • October 30, 2010
  • November 20, 2010
  • February 5, 2011

Will we know if we have been passed on to the next round? I can't remember if they mentioned that at the interview?

Haven't heard anything. Guess it is the waitlist or rejection pile for me. Congrats to those of you that got in. Will we get an email tonight about our status?

So to answer my own question, and yours, according to the site:

Some students not offered an initial acceptance will be notified that they have been placed in the Active Status Pool, and their records will be periodically reviewed. After March 30, 2011, the Active Status Pool will convert to an unranked wait list. An applicant may remain on the wait list up to student matriculation in August 2011.

Also, its not over until the fat lady sings!:luck:

It says some students..... My understanding was that rejections and active status updates would be sent out, but guess not. Thanks for reply!

Is it possible that they are behind schedule and will call more people tomorrow? Or do we really have to wait till dec 15th to hear again?
