Has anyone gotten a call from Dr. Workman? My bf has been on the WL since the last interview day... he received a voice message from Dr. Workman yesterday and called him back this morning... Dr. Workman said he was at the top of the list, and while there are currently no openings he wanted to gauge his interest (btw he is VERY interested).

Has this happened to anyone? I'm assuming it's a good sign? Is there anyone out there who is planning to drop VTC?

PS he is IS male, 30, 3.6ish GPA, VT undergrad

Hi LNuge, I'm a Colorado resident and am on the waitlist at Colorado. If I get in--which sort of looks unlikely now-- I would go to CU because it's cheaper and I wouldn't have to move away from all the skiing. 🙂 But seriously, I will free up a spot at VTC if I get in off the waitlist at CU. If not, I'll happily go to Roanoke!

Thanks cyclenerd!

Just out of curiousity, if you don't mind sharing, what are your stats (MCAT, GPA). I just submitted my apps for this year's cycle, and applied to VTC but I don't have the new MSAR with VTCs average admission scores, etc. I just wanted to get an idea what the criterion was for OOS students who are admitted (I am a FL resident).

Sure, no problem. I had a 34 MCAT...don't remember what the writing thing was. My undergrad GPA was on the low side at a 3.3. I think VTC gave me a break on that because I was a physics major at a fairly competitive school, which shows that they take more time than other schools to actually read the courses on people's transcripts. Yay to VTC! I should mention that I'm your bf's age and I went on to do a PhD after undergrad, and since VTC wants to recruit students who are interested in research, that might have also helped to offset my low GPA. I think they are a school that looks at the whole candidate and I really like them for that.

Hey guys,

This may bring a ray of hope - I will be deferring my acceptance to VTC for one year. I'm not sure if VTC will replace me with someone with similar demographics (since the male/female ratio shows they didn't do this last year) but I'm a 27 year old female. MCAT 33Q, cGPA 3.76, sGPA 4.0. I have pretty significant research experience (but no papers published), significant science tutoring/TA experience, and a previous banking career. Good luck to those still waiting!

Thanks Altruismo! It does help to hear that people are still making decisions so those on the WL still have a shot!

PS -- Are you in-state or out-of-state?

Out of state, though since VTC is private that shouldn't matter.

Question: My BF got a call from VTC last week to check on his status... they told him he was at the top of the WL and there were no spots. He just got an acceptance offer from another school, but would rather go to VTC... should he call VTC to update them and hope that they will extend an offer? What is the proper protocol?

Hah, I'm glad I randomly decided to check this thread today. This is exactly the kind of call I got from Dr. Workman shortly after I got into a different school (they know if/where you got in-- they get notified of your acceptances by AAMC). He wanted to gauge my interest, telling me I was at the top of the WL. I showed interest, and, a week later, I got in. One caveat: this call was way back before May 15 of my cycle. It looks to me like we have a full house for the class of 2015, but, that said, we do have a student in the charter class who was literally accepted a couple days before orientation! Take it for what you will. Hope this helps. Good luck.
