Is there anyway to check our status at wayne? Or do we just wait for a letter after we've submitted our app?

you can call, but not sure if it'll help. they told me my app was complete/review. give them a call if you want though.

thanks DoctaFuture. I guess I'll just try to be patient... Something that seems to come hard to us pre-meds when we're waiting for our 1 billion submitted applications to determine our future! ;-)

So to follow up on AName's question, there's no status website then????

Thanks in advance.

oh woops haha. nah there isn't a status website. their app was paper based too. you can call in just to check your status, but like I said not really sure how useful it is.

Interview Invite Today 😀 Complete beginning of September!

Congrats to the people who have been accepted so far. If you were accepted could you please list your stats and if are IS or OOS. I'm trying to get an idea of who gets accepted this early in the process. Thanks!

IS, cgpa 3.83, sgpa 3.77, 31P, tons of volunteer/EC/work experience. I also have a M.S. and worked for a few years after undergrad...Good luck! :luck:

Not usually a good idea to retake the MCAT with a 31. I retook a 29M to improve to a 30Q. Figured I would make it very clear what I was writing about and reorganize my writing. Either way, your 1 point drop won't hurt you.

OOS 3.83 / 29R Double Degree plenty volunteer/EC

.... i rocked my interview and I think that made all the difference.

IS; EDP; MCAT 33N; BCPM 4.0; AO Undergrad 3.81; Grad 3.48; Total: undergrad 3.91; grad 3.48
EMT Basic certified/Fire fighter: 2 years
Tons (8 years) of leadership/volunteer/service work.

I don't want to alarm anyone, but this Monday is the next decision date for Wayne State students. Ugh, so nervous. I was waitlisted last time I hope they take me off but I hear most of the movement happens after May....

is it difficult to get off of Wayne's WL Jungle?

I've heard people say that the majority of the movement occurs after May, but that they review files at each decision date and make a choice there so if you interviewed early then you have a better chance I think. I haven't been accepted anywhere yet and it's starting to get late in the "season" so I am really anxious!

Actually the next decision date is November 24, that's what our sheet says. Unless they let people on the waitlist know on different days than those waiting to hear of an initial decision after interviewing?

If that's what the sheet says than I was wrong. This Mon. is when decisions could be released for another school I am applying to I probably got them mixed up.

Anyone else interviewing this coming Tuesday (Nov. 16th)? It'd be nice to meet someone from SDN. I'm flying out tomorrow afternoon and am looking forward to a good interview day. From what I've read in the interview feedback, it should be a pretty laid back interview. Just the way I want it! 🙂

Can anyone let me know around what time you get out of the interview day please?

Can anyone let me know around what time you get out of the interview day please?

When I interviewed last year, the only mandatory thing was the interview itself. Should be about 40-60 min. The tour is around lunchtime. It is not mandatory. I didn't go on it. The time they gave you should be your actual interview time, so if you've got a flight or something you could be on your way out within an hour of the interview.

So I decided to wander on here since I'm utterly unmotivated to study for the last anatomy exam this Friday. I thought up some random interview things that might help you guys out.

1. I know sometimes they ask about your HS experiences (SAT scores, EC, GPA) during the interview. I was asked about it during mine and could not remember a thing. So maybe on the plane ride over you can just quickly jot a little list of ECs in HS to refresh your memory. I definitely wish I did that because I couldn't think of most of them on the spot.

2. I remember a lot of rumors tend to spread about how the medical students who give the tours can influence your admissions. This simply isn't true unless you decided to take off all your clothes and streak through MEZ. So please relax during your tours and have fun!

3. I have been seeing a lot of your all dressed nicely in your suits but for God's sake enjoy! Have a little fun, talk a little bit to some students and don't just walk around like zombies. A few of my friends are tour guides and they are always complaining about how uptight you guys are. The tour is not the time to be uptight, it's the time to relax, interact and feel free to talk to us we don't bite. I know interviewing can be stressful but it's okay to try to have some fun during the tour.

4. For those of you who came into my MEZ room full of stuff on the white board during your tour I apologize. I was writting out the perineum and external genitalia so it was great timing. To the guy with the spiffy tie 👍

5. If you have any questions about the school or interviewing I'd be happy to answer them for you. Feel free to PM me!

Anyways I have to go back to Anatomy good luck everyone!

Yeah you will probably be asked about your ACT score, class rank in high school, and GPA in high school. Though t doesn't actually count for or against you I think they run some statistics on it.

Yay, I just got a call from my parents telling me I got my interview invite - secondary was received on Sep 8. Incidentally, I'm actually at the med school right now, in my research building studying 😀. Hopefully they're friendly about rescheduling the interview though, it's scheduled an hour and a half before what will likely be my most difficult final.

And as far as highschool, hopefully I'll be able to spin my apathetic attitude back then into something good. I was a mediocre student, 3.5gpa, 26 ACT, seventy-fifth percentile rank I think; with the exception of a few classes, I just didn't care. I'd show up late to classes, not do homework, and ace my tests, getting me a lot of B's usually. Honestly that attitude was just idiotic, I didn't think about all the scholarships I'd be missing out on.

I keep seeing all you nicely groomed, very serious ("professional"-looking) young people and remember the days I was in your shoes - the days before I knew better about what med school is all about. Just remember you are one step closer to being a dr but you have MANY more steps to go. On that note, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! Hope to be seeing many of you in Scott Hall or Mazurek at all crazy hours of the night stressing about your upcoming exams next year! 😉

Good luck on the 24th to those anxiously waiting. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be struggling to sleep the night before.

Good luck to you too! I am so nervous. I feel that the day before Thanksgiving - being the biggest bar night of the year - is like the worst possible day they could inform of us of their decision lol.

yes, good luck to people awaiting an acceptance, and those interviewing! I have an interview in the first week of December, and I was wondering if i would know the decision on the December date (is it Dec. 23rd?). If it is, then I cannot imagine how my christmas and new year would be, for better or worse!
By the way sedaniel, I actually think its a good day to give decisions, if you get rejected waitlisted, you can go drink your sorrows away, if you get accepted, you can celebrate! Please drink responsibly haha! :barf:

See, this may be the problem for some people haha. We shall see in three days.

The next decision date after Wednesday is December 22, so yes, you'll know before Christmas! Good luck!

While I do realize that, it is comforting to know that the graduation rates for medical schools are very high simply because the competitive nature of getting accepted. Though getting through undergrad into medical school obviously isn't as challenging as medical school itself, it does seem more daunting; it's the rate limiting step so to speak.

Yup, I was asked for an ACT or SAT score, what my HS graduating class size was, etc. Didn't get asked about class rank or GPA though.

My interviewer went over pretty much every single thing in my application. Even something I very briefly mentioned in my PS. So I felt like it was a pretty thorough interview. Didn't feel stressed or anything but I wouldn't call it fully conversational either. My interviewer asked me to tag along with him after my interview so he could show me stuff I wouldn't see in the official tour. I'm hoping that being shown around, etc, means that he was happy with me! So, I'm hoping for good news this Wednesday!

I have to say I was pretty impressed with the facilities. Especially the new Mazurek building, IIRC. The admissions staff were incredibly nice and helpful too.

Thanks Sedaniel. I guess I know who to party with next year if I get accepted lol. Good Luck to you as well. I know you want WSU so much.

Kaushik, Good Luck, and btw I find your avatar extremely annoying lol. Who is that guy?

Don't get me wrong. You'll pass, they are very selective and won't pick quitters but it's for that reason that I'll be seeing many of you stressed and exhausted around school. They even schedule exams so that you will have class the next day and it's very risky to fall more than a day behind. It's quite an experience, med school (at least 1st year) is, but believe me when I say you should enjoy every minute from the time you get in to the time you start. Many of us didn't realize it and regret stressing over all the little things before. Don't take yourself too serious and stress too much about even the admission process. Save those nerves for med school, you'll wish you had them. 😉

For those of you waiting for the adcom's decision today, are we supposed to wait for an email or call the office?

Ugh. Waiting is the worst. I was hoping we'd find out nice and early like the other batch before us.

I found out I was waitlisted on the Oct. 20th release date. Does anyone know if we get a decision each time (accepted, continued to be waitlisted, or rejected) on those dates (aka. TODAY!) Or will they only notify us if we are accepted and otherwise it is assumed we are still on the waitlist? Thanks, good luck everyone!

That's a good question.

Seriously. Every time there is a new post in this thread I can't help but think "omg someone got accepted and I still haven't gotten an email." lol

I know, I keep jumping at every new email as well 😏 Why, Wayne..whyyy.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh I am so happy, this was my number one 😀 Good luck to everyone else!

PS The document they send has a weird ending, it's like .doc.docx or something, I could only open it on my phone haha.

The decisions for Nov 24 are out as of 12:50pm today
I just got my first accept!!!

Good luck to all

First off, I got my email about 20 minutes ago and it was a - surprise, surprise - no change in status. My third time applying and I fear the worst.

Secondly, if you've been waitlisted, the odds are at this point the only email you are going to receive is to tell you your status has not changed. Waitlist movement doesn't really pick up until May, so calm yourselves (of course, you could be one of those lucky ones that gets off before then, but again, the odds aren't in your favor.

You don't need to stress yourself out over something you have no control over and that probably won't change for a while anyway.

Spankz, if you don't mind me asking, did you get waitlisted the past 2 times you applied as well?

I was waitlisted last year and just got waitlisted again this year. Considering that I improved my application significantly, I am a bit confused. I don't understand what this school wants. Going down the list of what they want to see from their applicants (http://www.med.wayne.edu/admissions/preparing/index.asp), I can say that I fulfill most of what they are asking for. My gpa is a 4.0, and I have a 30 Q. To top it off, I had a great letter from a distinguished chairman at their medical school (I did research for him for months). I don't believe it was my interview because it went pretty well. On the brighter side, I was already accepted to MSU CHM 🙂. However, it would be nice to be able to choose between Wayne and MSU because I still believe that Wayne has many strengths. I guess I will have to wait.

It's okay bud. I'm a 34N with a 4.0, and I just got waitlisted. Tons of research and volunteer work. Shadowing experience. Interview was pretty good too. *Sigh* I'm confused by the whole process.

waitlisted again....second time applying I guess all us waitlisters are going to have to wait it out till may 🙁. Does anyone know if a letter of interest will do any good. I know that wayne ranks interviewees and thats the number your stuck with until the end

@ SpAnKz89X thats true dedication, third time applying and waitlisted again. I feel your pain...

Yeah, I was waitlisted as well & already accepted to MSU CHM--I was already leaning towards MSU before I received my decision from Wayne so I suppose this makes my decision easier!
