for the most part, and especially with big city schools, the acceptance/rejection boards are really up to date so if it's not listed there you're prolly good.

Sorry I'm pretty new at this... how do I find the acceptance/rejection boards for Yeshiva?

Thanks again!!!

Good luck to you! I completely understand money woes. I only applied to a few schools. I just couldn't afford to apply to more than that. . . . Do the schools to which you applied offer solid funding? I hope so. Having had absolutely crappy jobs for a good part of my life, I know that I have to go after my dream or my spirit will suffer. I hope you can hold out and get you doctorate. : )

haha. Thanks. Yeah. I'm only 20 years old, and I've got a good PAYING job for my age and "this economy" 😉. However, I've already thought about whether I could stay for this company "forever" and the answer is absolutely no.

At least my fiance realizes this too. He's doing court-ordered community service with adolescents and realized that I would love to just work there. He said we'd open a day-care if we have to, so that I can be with kids. I love kids. For a lot of reasons, we more than likely will not be having our own kids, however.

I LOVE research, I am very inquisitive, this is why I chose Ph. D. instead of just an MA. But I don't want a career as an academic. I want a clinical practice in some capacity, which I COULD still do with an MA. So, going the MA route won't ruin everything. haha. (It just won't be free. :-( )

The programs do have solid funding. Guaranteed. 🙂

I also know that I wouldn't be a better candidate next year... I've stopped my work in research labs in the middle of last semester (with the exception of my thesis, which is dying too :-( ) because of work. I've been working 60hrs/week on top of 12 hours of class NOT including the commute. Where in all of that am I supposed to fit volunteering in someone's lab?

The MA program at my school (we don't offer Ph. D) will take me. Faculty told me, "we'd love to have you here, but we know you're off to bigger and better things." It might be a little sad to not fulfill those expectations, but at least I'd be taking care of things that need to get taken care of (read: debts and extended family).

How did your applications turn out?

I have been rejected by every school to which I applied. I was not even given an interview to any of the seven who received my application.
I have a combined GRE of 1310, B.S. in Psychology with 3.952 GPA, and research experience. In fact, I recently co-drafted a highly detailed study in which funding and lab space has been guaranteed by a local developmental psych. professor (cell staining/counts, brain dissection, lipid analysis, the works). I have broad research interests in neuropsychology and listed at least 3 POIs per school. I obviously didn't list all of my qualifications in this post like I put in my application such as work and volunteer experience, but I am just not understanding why I didn't even get an interview.
I honestly felt I was qualified for at least an interview. Anyone else experience this?

I've definitely experienced something similar, and it's my second round. I even have publications and poster presentations at conferences. When speaking to the DCT of the one school where I interviewed, she was surprised that I hadn't received any other interviews and did not realize how important my interview with them was. I applied to 12 schools in total. The interesting thing I had learned was that not only did there need to be a fit with the program but fit with whom they planned to admit. The majority of the applicant group was interested in neuropsychology and health psychology, so the amount of students admitted for general/pediatric psychology was already limited.

Go to page 1 on this post, and you can see which schools have posted acceptances/waitlist. Then, you have to find the rejection thread, and go to page 1 there to find which schools have rejected some people.

I applied to 7 schools. But my research interests are VERY specific, and at some of the schools that I was interested in, the POI wasn't accepting anyone. Also, applications were ridiculously expensive. For that reason alone, if I don't get in this go round, I'll just do a masters in my hometown, where I have a good job, and my fiance has one too. Due to some crappy circumstances this morning, I almost decided not to come to my interview today (2/2, got 4 rejections and 1 waitlist). I know that the fit here isn't right... so I'm going to struggle more in my interviews than I did at my other school. As I was on the plane I cried because I know that I should take care of the responsibilities (debts, mostly), instead of chasing my dream. :-(

Aw, I hear ya. I could only afford 8. and I almost didn't make my 2nd interview due to lack of funds.

My baby brother mailed me a warm coat for the East Coast interview and enclosed an unexpected check to help me afford it. I didn't ask for it but he knew I was struggling. I really didn't want to cash it as he has his own school debt and just got married to boot but he knew how important this is to me. If I don't get off the waitlist this time, I'm not sure I can finance next year.

Was this school on a mentorship model where you get accepted to work with a specific faculty members? That just sounds so weird to me... Pediatric is a sub-specialty within health psych (partially, anyways...)!

I meant the threads on the PhD/PsyD board here (so this thread we're on now, and also the rejection one). there are lots of NYCers on this board and people applying to NY schools, so that info tends to be super current. If you haven't heard of rejections or acceptances yet, they likley haven't happened. Good Luck!

Just an FYI, some schools do have master's that provide full or nearly full funding.

However, I am currently in a discussion on another thread, and I am the only one who thinks master's level clinicians can be competent, solid practitioners, so just be aware of the major bias.

I have gotten into a PhD program, and I have one more interview. So, fortunately for me, I will be beginning my quest for a PhD this fall, which is very exciting. . . .

You can have a good job, but if you have a lot of debt, it is hard not to worry about it. I completely understand.

Have you had today's interview yet? Was it a better fit than you thought or do you have the same impression?

I have been informed that I was in the top 3 for 2 positions at my top choice school, and was not selected because the other two applicants had more specific related experience! So if either one of the two applicants turns down their offer, I will be extended an offer! Luckily this school has a 50% acceptance rate once they extend offers, so I feel like my chances are pretty good. I'm just curious what how long you all think it might take for a student to accept/decline their offer. It obviously depends... but any advice on the matter would be appreciated!

I really want to go to this school, but have already been unofficially informed of my acceptance to my 2nd choice school and will receive the official offer sometime next week. I don't want to hold that offer too long out of compassion for other applicants in the same boat as I am with my top choice!

Unfortunately, the person who got an offer at your top choice (where you are waitlisted) might be waiting to hear from their top choice (where they are waitlisted). At each interview I've been to the DTCs have said the process often takes right up till April 15th because of the bottleneck of applicants waiting to hear back from schools where they are waitlisted. 🙁

Has anyone heard from the University of Utah ?

Its the last clinical program I have to hear from, and want to know if acceptances have been sent out!

About Yeshiva- I applied to their PsyD but havent heard anything post-interview. I checked thegradcafe and nothing is up there post interview so I think it just means that they are behind. But then again, I am here hoping, wishing....:scared:

have you checked last year's thread for approx. dates of notification?

Accepted to U of Washington School Psych! Just found out 2/25 via email.

Hi Everyone! I got my very first acceptance today (To Widener's Psyd Program) :woot:

Can whoever got the Syracuse University school psych acceptance PM me please? I would greaaatly appreciate it! 🙂

It was, for lack of better wording, a weird model. You were expected to have matching interests with faculty members while at the same time, the decision was made by a group of faculty who may or may not have met you on the day. The interviews were with faculty members that were not my POIs. They also put some emphasis on group interactions throughout the day. All in all, it was pretty arbitrary at the end. In retrospect, some of the explanations that were provided seem vaguely unsatisfying.

If anyone has heard from USC (university of southern california) please PM me or post! Thanks!

Um, how do I do this?? I am new here and only been on a couple of threads that are right on the main page... 😳

try doing a search for the 2009-2010 acceptance thread--something titled similarly to this years thread but with a previous date.

Has any one heard from LIU Post since the interview? I thought they were inviting some students to sit in classes and meetings. I have a bad feeling...

what the heck dude! i was told by a USF faculty member we would hear by the end of the week. NO WORD!!!!!!! i know they sent some acceptances so i called the department and a woman told me i was not rejected but would give me no other information. according to APA guidelines they have to tell you if you are on the waitlist and where you are on the list so what the heck yo! it's bad enough waiting all week and now i have to continue stress eating girl scout cookies through the weekend??!?!?!??!?!?! 😱

DARN THIS PROCESS AND DARN THE GIRL SCOUTS AND THEIR DELICIOUS COOKIES!!!!! (shaking fist toward the sky....)

totally agree with both.
I'm debating whether I should contact the DCT for John Jay, but I'm nervous I'm not going to like what I hear...bleh.

I did contact the JJ DCT two days ago asking if my application was still under consideration and she has not responded. I don't know what to think about this? Just thought I would let you know!

I would like to hear everyone's opinion on contacting a school that you have not heard from. Is there a time-line to abide by following your interview? Who should you contact (POI vs. DCT vs. Admissions Coordinator)? Insider's Guide, (apparently my Holy Grail) states that I can call to say "I have been given an offer to attend University X, but I really prefer to go to University Y. Where does my application stand?" For some reason, this struck me as pushy (especially as my interview was last Friday). PS I also adhere to Victorian Era etiquette. E.g. I'd feel pushy asking for a glass of water at my friend's house. 😳

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with inquiring where they are in the process and whether you're still in the running. Some places I interviewed actually said if you get other offers and are still wondering where they are at in the process to let them know. As to the who to contact I would probably go with the Admissions Director, it's part of their job to field these kinds of questions. That said, if your interview was last Friday I think you probably don't need to get overly anxious yet (unless you've seen indications offers have already gone out). Most of the schools I interviewed at have taken close to a month to make decisions, in part, I think because budgetary stuff is more difficult to sort out this year. And if you're still nervous, email is easier than the phone.

Last year I wrote the email in question, something along the lines of "I have received an offer from University X but really enjoyed my time at University Y and wanted to know where I stand before making my final decision." Lo and behold, University Y makes me an offer. (But then I accepted at University X....)

Point is the arm twisting can most definitely work because if they are on the fence about you, it forces a decision. And schools tend to like you more if other schools want you. I'm sure there's some name in social psych for that phenomenon.

Edit: BTW, I addressed the email to the DCT because that was the person I had the most contact with at that program. I think it's also fine to email your POI or the department assistant.

I haven't heard anything yet. it's actually my first choice so i'm getting a little worried myself. Let's hope for the best.

I have a quick question that I'm hoping someone might be able to answer. I've been told it's prudent to wait to receive an offer in formal written format (i.e. letter in the mail) before accepting the offer. I'm concerned about turning down other schools who are not my first choice before I get the formal letter from my first choice... am I being overly cautious?

Note: I received the offer in question from my POI via phone, then from the psychology department graduate admissions coordinator via email, and then from the school of graduate studies again via email.

I feel guilty holding onto more than one offer, particularly when I know I'm going to turn one down but I don't want to get stuck in a situation (somehow! though I doubt this would happen) where I have no offers...

Usually the main reason for waiting is when the graduate school hasn't yet given you an offer, and only the department has. In this case, both the department and graduate school have accepted you, and you have the graduate school's offer in writing via email, so I think you would be fine to decline the rest of your offers.

Congrats on being accepted to your first choice!

Waitlisted at my first choice. Let the waiting... uhh... continue...

Also wait listed at my top choice school - oy vey. Do programs typically tell you how high up in wait list priority you are? Also, do students ever take out loans to pay for these programs?

Don't worry too much, I emailed them and they stated that they are interviewing up to March 16th.

My POI just confirmed that not all offers are out. 5-8 spots available...but seriously I can't wait another month! Is there a deadline they must abide by post interview?

Thanks!

Hello All,

I was happy to come across this website!

I'm interviewing tomorrow for Denver's PsyD program. Has anyone else interviewed there? Any thoughts on the program?

I welcome any thoughts you have!

Hello All,

I was happy to come across this website!

I'm interviewing tomorrow for Denver's PsyD program. Has anyone else interviewed there? Any thoughts on the program?

I also interviewed at GWU's PsyD program and will be interviewing at Duquesne and LIU Brooklyn's PhD program. Any one else interview there?

I'm a little concerned that I'm older than a lot of the PsyD/PhD students -- I'm 30. I have a background in creative nonfiction -- hoping to spin this in a positive way. I'm very interested in existentialism and narrative therapy. My GRE scores were so-so. But I have a lot of diverse clinical experience, including a trip abroad.

I got rejected from all my other schools. So hopefully one of these four places will accept me!

I welcome any thoughts you have!

For those who care - GMU sent out an e-mail from the DCT today 2/28 announcing waitlist/alternate status. Said more updates will come in March.

It also include some other interesting information that I'm copying and pasting here: "I have made 8 offers of admission and 1 interviewee has accepted admission to work with me. So far no one has declined. The financial aid offers are for $14,000 or more per year for a 3-year guaranteed assistantship plus full tuition coverage and health insurance."

Could whoever got the acceptance from U Maine pretty please PM me your POI? Thanks!
