Hey guys. When you submitted your secondary and clicked "certify," was there a confirmation page saying it was submitted or did it just take you to the "Draft Copy for ________" where there was an option to print or return to the application?

I was confused about this too but I figured it out. Every field needs a response, including the ones that aren't applicable (if you've applied to Albany before, why you aren't using premedical committee). When you fill it out completely, you'll be able to submit.

I didn't put anything for those fields and I was able to submit...I hope. The supplemental application is fixed now and I can't change anything on it so I'm assuming that it was submitted?

+1. It's my last application and I've been agonizing over that question for days. Does anyone think they put much weight on what we say?

Yeah it was one of the last few for me too. I just submitted, I'd figure that your numbers, ECs and LORs are what will get you an interview, the question is just the icing on the cake.

Just an FYI in case anyone else is wondering about how Albany handles applicants with multiple letter packets:
I called the admissions office today to inquire into how they're going to handle my LORs (I have a committee letter from undergrad and a letter packet from grad school) and I was informed that even though there is only space to list one committee letter/packet on the secondary, they will actually look at all letter packets submitted to AMCAS. I know someone had mentioned earlier in the thread that they wouldn't accept both a committee letter packet and additional letters, but it appears as if they make an exception if you have attended more than one institution and have an official letter packet from each one (opposed to just having random additional letters not sent by a specific institution).

This school is so weird in that they don't accept extra letters. I added my committee letter and additional letters in the secondary application, only to learn that they downloaded the additional letters only. I called in, and the lady (apparently, med school admission office front desk ppl are always middle aged ladies) told me that you have to choose either the committee letter or the other letters 😕 That was so ******ed and weird, me thinks. Of course I had no choice but to say drop the additional letters and add the committee letters 👎

is this only if it's not all in ONE packet? my committee letter and extra letters are all in one packet. but the committee letter i think summarizes a little bit of each letter (academic + additional).

Hey, is the 1000 character limit include spades, or not? I don't have access to the secondary yet but want to get started.

Howdy all! I'm waiting for my primary to be verified, but I'm excited for this thread! 😀

Only is the spades are royalty or aces.

haha, spaces, are SPACES included in the 1000 character limit. I ask because i wrote a pretty good one at about 1150 characters, but a little above 950 without spaces. Also, it'd be good to know in general, as most of these use character instead of word limits.

I think it includes spaces but I would call their office to be sure.

how much time did you guys spend on your essays for Albany?
they sent me their secondary a month ago... :/ i don't know how much weight these essays have on the their decisions to give interviews or if it's more for them to look at during interviews

sooo on the supplemental app when it says to choose the volunteer and ec stuff from your amcas that you want to focus on... in the ec section can i list an ec that wasnt necessarily on my amcas?

I'm sure that would be fine. Although if it's that important, I am not sure why you didn't put it on your AMCAS.

is it too "late" to submit this secondary? it's been in my box for ~ 2 weeks...just been really busy

I'm still waiting for my primary to be verified, so you're ahead of me. It's my understanding that returning secondaries in October and November is considered "late", and returning in September is pretty average (no longer "early"). Anyone else's thoughts?

Yeah, submitting secondaries before September is usually the best idea. After that, you will probably only get looked at once or twice.

MSI here, ask me if you have any questions regarding AMC. Will check in occasionally during study breaks.

I agree with this as general wisdom.

June/July = Early
August = On Time
September = Late

Other than that, just get them done. Don't worry about two weeks, a month, whatever. I had a secondary from a top tier school that I was debating on whether or not to submit, so I waited a month and a half. I eventually did submit it and got an interview the following day. Schools really don't care, just make sure you don't let them pile up.

My analogy is this - secondaries are like the writing section for the MCAT. Secondaries will stand out if they are really good or really bad, but its the numbers in front that really matter.

Edit: I'm filling out this secondary right now!

Albany doesn't screen right? How long after verfication have you received? I ve been waiting for 2 weeks already.

I am not sure how long it took to receive the secondary. However, I've been completed for a long time and I haven't heard anything from Albany. 🙁

I'm not sure about what my turnaround time for Albany was, but some schools do take about a month after verification to send out secondaries. Check out Drexel or Minnesota

Has anyone gotten a complete email from Albany yet? I have been submitted since 7/28 but have not heard a peep!

I don't think they send e-mails. I'm complete up on their status site.

Per last year's thread, IIs started going out on September 1. Looks like they went out to people that were complete early August. We shall see next week!

ditto to what was said above. took about a week, but the last category on the status page
"Application complete and ready for review by our Admissions Committee" changed to yes for me.. which i'm assuming is their complete signal.

anyone know how long it takes to hear anything back? the good/bad/still uncertain?

Interview invite for me as well. I'm from the Albany area and would totally go here.

Yea I have had this status.... \/.....for a while now....hopefully i'll hear something soon..:xf:

First interview invite! blaaaaahhh! Just freaked out 😀 😀

Interview Invite!

Complete sometime in late July.
3.9+ GPA 31 MCAT

Does anyone know what percent/how many of those interviewed get acceptance offers? I have the MSAR and it's telling me 180 IS interviewed and 450 OOS interviewed and how many ended up matriculating but not how many offers were given

From what I've gathered for most schools, it's roughly 2:1 acceptees to matriculants.

invite! can't make any of the dates offered, i'm hoping they will be flexible in letting me schedule for a little later in october.

Out of about 630 interview offers made for 2011, a bit more than 300 were offered admissions. 107 matriculated.

(Numbers not exact, I'm drawing this from my memories of orientation)

Has anybody else who has been offered an interview having trouble uploading the photo? (Yes, I realize it's optional but still want to upload one)

I was under the impression that we were supposed to bring a hard copy of our photo with our name/amcas id on the back to the interview. Is that right?

Yes, I noticed later that you could do either of the two.

Surprisingly small amount of love for what seems like a common "safety" school.

Or is the secondary just so easy that nobody's posting?

I'm assuming that it's because the secondary is so easy

Did you guys get complete emails or did you just check your status?

For anyone who hasn't received an II, how often is your status page date updating?
