Interview Invite today as well!!!

Completed late August....OOS....

interview 3/1/12....better late than never!

For those of you who have been complete since August/September and have not heard anything, this email I received after questioning my status may help ease your mind:

"We have not had a chance to review your file yet due to the large volume of applications that we have received. The Admissions Committee has a substantial number of files that still need to be reviewed. We hope to reach your file for review within the next few weeks."

Interview invite! Complete early September. Scheduled for 2/23 🙁

I'm gonna be at NYMC on 2/7 though. Anyone know if Albany is receptive to date changes from in the area emails?

Give them a call.. that's what I did.

That does help - thanks for sharing! 👍

The next committee meeting is tomorrow. I'm nervous. Does anybody who has heard already have any idea how long it takes to hear after committee meets?

Edit: Uh, just kidding. This sums it up.

The worst part is that the uc list generally doesn't hear until April or May. They review every month or so, but applicants have been holding onto multiple acceptances longer, and they can't accept from the UC list before others have withdrawn. The top of the UC list that isn't outright accepted gets placed on the waitlist, and anywhere from 0-50 people come off the waitlist. Sigh... Well that should answer any post-interview questions lulz.

Congrats! I don't think the drive is that far for a Midwestern native. Albany is like 3-4 hours from Westchester. That said, I have no input on whether they are receptive to date changes, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Albany is awesome by the way! They have a very cool simulation center, and the students were super relaxed. It felt like a low stress environment, and I found the city itself to be charming.

Thanks! I'm definitely excited. End of Feb seems so far away though 🙁 Hopefully I can move up the date!

Also, I feel like were slowly becoming application twins 😀

I'd say it's more like a 2-3 hour drive between Westchester and Albany. Definitely worth asking about seeing if they have interview date flexibility. I had to move my interview back a week or two (which is probably easier than moving it up, but...), and the folks at Admissions were really nice and responsive over the phone. I'm sure they're getting cancellations now that we're later in the season. But for those of you with later interviews, Albany stresses how they keep seats open all season long, since they interview all the way through April. I'm a first year, and a good deal of my class sounds like they got in pretty late (some even in July), so hang in there!

Is anyone interviewing on the 26th who wants to share the hotel costs?

Thanks! Can you share what you like best about the school so far?

you should try to arrange to stay with a student on Wednesday night if possible. I did and had a great experience! good luck

Unfortunately the first years have an exam that Friday, so I think the 25th is not a date where we are hosting students. But if you have questions about life at Albany, come to the Student Welcome night and I'll be there with a few other first years to answer any questions.

Most of the students I've met so far seem happy. We help each other out as much as possible. <-- I really think this is key, and makes for a great environment. Within our class, we're always sending out useful links and documents. Even though we don't have a lot of cross-class interaction, I've felt whenever I do get a chance to hang out with upperclassmen, they are always up for answering questions, sometimes they send us useful emails with study tools, the 2nd years set up an informal mentoring program so you would have someone to talk to if you needed that structure (but I've found 3rd and 4th years who also readily offer their contact information and make themselves available as a support system), and they do a presentation at the beginning of each new theme to give us a heads up about what to expect, which books they actually found useful, etc.

What I don't like so far:
It's hard to find information! As I'm sure you've gathered 😉 There's no convenient guidebook, the info on the web is scattered and it isn't always complete and there's so much to keep track of anyway. The best way to find out anything seems to involve proactivity on your part and asking lots of different people questions until you find people who are knowledgeable enough. But as mentioned above, at least everyone's happy to answer questions!

If you have the luxury of choice, then you probably want to start considering what your priorities are and find out if the school matches that list. If you have more specific questions, let me know.

Anyone else interviewing Jan 26th?? Any recommendations on lodging? (there isn't Med student hosting this upcoming week, for some reason 🙁)

Someone above was looking to split hotel costs. Maybe that's an option?

I didn't get a student host request with my interview offer,so I'm assuming its all full? My interview isn't scheduled until 2/23, still trying to move it up to 2/3, 2/8, or 2/9.

Try Hilton Garden Inn at Albany Medical Center; it's right across the street, so you'll have no problem getting to and from the center.

1st years, which form the majority of the student host program, have a cardiovascular exam on the 27th. Sorry guys! Admissions tries to be kind to us when we're locked down.

BTW, my pro: people here really do make a difference. Administration is open to help out, students are kind to each other and will take out time to help each other study or just to relax (wine parties, bday parties, laser tag...)

Thanks for all the input! I admit, I don't know much about the school, so it's nice to hear opinions from current students. As someone who's OOS wanting to return home for med school, it's kind of hard selling schools not in IL to myself. Hopefully though, the interview day will turn me around 🙂

Completed 09/22. Haven't heard from them at all. I'm getting really nervous! Wish they would send me something soon.😕

U.C list today :lame:
Complete 9/2, Interview 1/5. U.C. 1/19.
I really liked the school, hopefully they'll open up a spot for me

My impression:
It is probably far from your family, but I thought it was a cozy place. The atmosphere is much more Midwest than East Coast. I had the opportunity to explore the area, and everyone was friendly. The city itself is a little bit smaller, but there is a lot to do. It's a nice mixture of city and small town. I asked people in town what they thought of the medical center, and they all said wonderful things. The law school is right across from the medical school, which adds to the atmosphere around the school. The school itself is fairly old, but it had a lot of character. The sim center on the other hand was large and state of the art (opened sometime this year I believe). Good luck again! I think you will be pleasantly surprised by your experience. (I certainly was.)

Any recent decisions lately? anxiously waiting here haha :scared:

I called and asked if they had any information (interviewed 12/21/12) and they told me my interviewer still hadn't submitted my evaluation and that I'll hear next weeeeeeeek. I'm scurrrred.

I thought they said two weeks? Good luck!! I hope you have good news next week 🙂

Has anyone gotten accepted off the UC list yet???

Has anyone gotten accepted off the UC list yet???

Last year UCs didn't really get notified until April. They said that people have been holding onto multiple acceptances much longer than they used to, and it slows everything down. My guess is that there may be a few exceptions that hear earlier, but the vast majority will hear in April or May.

This is the first time I've checked this thread so I'm sorry if people have already discussed this, but I've been complete since Julyish. Do they silently reject?

Well, as always, an interviewer who doesn't submit paperwork delays the process.

I called today and they said they will review my case tomorrow and give me a decision by the end of this week....this will be the longest week ever, haha. :luck: to you!

Heading to Albany tomorrow, any SDNers interviewing this Thursday?🙂

I have also been complete since Julyish and am wondering the same thing.

To any of these who have received interview invites or already interviewed:

When uploading your photo in EAS, do you get a confirmation that your file was successfully uploaded? I know several others were having issues with the photo upload, with some saying that we can e-mail our pictures as an alternative. I'd really prefer to use the established system, so any input is appreciated!

I'm positive my image is perfectly square, jpg format, and tried two different sizes. When I click "submit," the page refreshes, but I see no conformation of a successful upload.

Thanks in advance!

II today! Was not expecting this! Complete 11/1. Interview spots are still available for all of the month of March.

Hey everyone, do you guys know if there is an adcomm meeting today?

Pre-Interview hold email this morning = thinly veiled rejection based on previous year's threads. Sigh. Oh well.

When were you complete if you don't mind me asking?

I hope so. I want to know my result! It's been over a month!

#firstworldproblems

I called the office today, and was informed that the lady who takes care of the number crunching after the adcomm meeting will be out of the office until Thursday. Sooo... more sitting and waiting. Sending out positive vibes:xf:

For those of you indicating when you were complete, are you referring to when you had submitted the secondary/paid the fee, or when they marked your LOR as received and marked you as ready for committee review?
