I'm going up tomorrow for the info session and then interviewing on the 23rd with an 11:30 check in time. Anyone know when I could expect to be done? I'm going to be taking either the train or the bus back to NYC so I'm trying to figure out a range of options. I know that on the website it says 5-6 hours for the tour/interview but I was just curious how reliable that was.

I have the same check-in time. I asked the admissions office, and they said they're done usually no later than 4pm.

I think I was done by 2-230. most of my group shouldve been done by 3.they overestimate for time bc they don't want ppl to rush

I have the morning interview so I think my info session will be after the interview around noon rather than in later part of the day? Or is there a separate info session?

the morning people have their info session at the same time as the afternoon people so noon-ish is correct

Just finished the interview. May be I saw you there? I'm the due with the white shirt black silver tie. The interview was nice and relaxing, I didn't get an ethics question from the professor that teaches Bioethics which was pretty cool. Some people had only one interviewer, I had two and it was open file so they had access to whatever you wrote. If anyone has questions let me know. Best of luck to everyone. 🙂

I saw a girl who did public interviewing in the afternoon. Was that you?

officially rejected today via email, pre-interview and pre-interview hold. Best of luck to everyone else

I agree, mine was very relaxing as well. We talked through my activities and she just asked me a few questions. I was in the afternoon, and was done by 2 since I only had one interviewer. I think the hardest question was what I thought the biggest medical advancement was in the past decade. I just talked about PPACA and the pros and cons, so it wasn't bad!

Overall, I really liked the school. Great community feel, public health focus, opportunity for early clinical exposure, etc. They really stressed balance, which I loved. Can't wait to hear from them in less than two weeks!

Indeed. This was probably my least stressful interview day I've had so far. I only had one interview (and had to wait a bit for it) but the person was really nice. I liked that he wasn't reading off a sheet during the interview, and also wasn't writing what I was saying down as we talked. Based on that it seems that the interviewers have a lot of flexibility in what they ask you.

I also really appreciated being told that we would hear back so soon.

I'm interviewing here next week! Do you know how long they said until they get back to you?

You get voted on the Tuesday after your interview. When you actually get notified, they were a bit vague on, but I'm assuming within a week?

does anyone know how many ii AMC sends out in these years??

I am on the UC list. I just received some requests for financial aid forms from the AMC Financial Aid Office. I submitted my FAFSA about 2 weeks ago and assume they are just receiving/responding to it now. However, there is an AMC student ID on the top of the email. Have any other UC people received this? Thank you.

Have you changed your primary email address on AMCAS since sending your primary? I did and when I was accepted the financial aid email was sent to the old address and the acceptance letter to the new one.

I did not change my email address.

I called the office today and found out it was a generated message for people who have sent in their FAFSA to Albany. The secretary told me that they haven't changed UC statuses for a while.

Just received an interview invite, complete July. Never put on hold or hear anything till today.

wow
I just got an interview invitation right now. Completely unexpected since I thought they forgot about me, although they never put me on hold. So happy 🙂

All interview dates are in April.

Interviewed on 2/23 and was just accepted this morning by email. I'm extremely excited.
Good luck to everyone else!

ACCEPTED! I'M GONNA BE A DOCTOR! ahhhhhh!

Congratz to those that got in 🙂 I got a UC notification, but I'm glad at least they tell us pretty quickly. Gonna keep my fingers crossed.

Not that I know of....Congrats on your acceptance phnerd!! You should make one!

Thank you! haha I totally would, but I'm trying to conserve what little anonymity I have left on SDN. Making a Facebook group probably would destroy that 😛. Though, if someone makes one and a few people join, I shall join as well 🙂

Is there a Facebook group for those accepted?

FYI, last year some of us started a group only to have Student Affairs create an official one for us soon afterwards. I imagine they'll do the same for your class once the season settles out.

Congrats!

Yar, that they did. Afterward, a MS1 organized an Google Doc on that group so people could find roommates - you'll get more info on this later.

Congrats to those accepted - and nice bumping into ya phnerd!

wondering why they give someone one interview but two interviews to the others, and curious about why some interviewer didn't ask ethical questions

I'm pretty sure the 1 vs. 2 interviews depends on availability. I think the second interview is usually conducted by a student and so it depends on their schedules. I know on my interview day the MS1s were in the middle of exams so only one of the interviewees had 2.

As far as ethical questions, I think it entirely depends on the interviewer and what he or she wants to ask. There is no "requirement" for ethical questions in an interview.

Aha! I had a sneaking suspicion that that was you 🙂. It was nice meeting you as well!

I only had one interviewer. I know that they said it was only based on availability, but I couldn't help freak out a bit inside. My interview lasted for out 40 minutes, whereas others had two interviews lasting about an hour each. Though, my interviewer and I had a great conversation about my activities, path to medicine, etc. People just have a preference of what questions they want to ask, especially related to their position. Students may ask different questions as opposed to an adcom member/faculty/physician/PhD/etc.

Will be withdrawing my acceptance. GL to those waiting.

Actually, my second interview was conducted by a pharmacology professor at the school of pharmacy (not the medical school oddly enough). My first interview had gone really well, and I went into my next interview feeling pretty confident. The second interview went terribly. The closest thing to a personal question was asking me to defend my vegetarianism. Essentially, the next 40 minutes were a debate. I think this type of interview would have been really good if I was applying to law school, but I don't understand what it had to do with medicine. I don't think you should be worried about 1 interview as it seems almost completely random who gets 1 or 2 interviewers. I absolutely loved Albany, and it is pretty disheartening to know that my chances of acceptance were damaged by the opinion of one person who doesn't even interact with patients on a regular basis ( or med students for that matter).

😕😕

That's so weird. I'm sorry you had that experience 🙁 We might have had the same interviewer, as I also had a pharmacology professor (I think she was in neuropharmacology). But, the only questions I got asked were about my activities. Also, as if we couldn't be more alike, I've been a vegetarian my whole life 🙂. I don't know why they would have chosen to ask you that question over anything else. Super weird. Fingers crossed for you 🙂 :xf:

Haha my interviewer was male, so I guess we had different interviewers. I had the impression that he was on the board of admissions which is even stranger given that he isn't faculty at the medical school. He was extremely academic, and it seemed like this is simply the way he interviews. I think he wants to see how you defend your thoughts and beliefs. There is nothing inherently wrong with this technique, though I certainly felt like I was being attacked. Being a male in the Army, being attacked for vegetarianism is nothing new to me, and I don't think the interviewer meant to be abrasive. I only had one other interview like this, and even that one was a little more tame. My first interviewer inquired more about my activities, and he seemed very positive. I couldn't read the second interviewer at all, though he seemed very unimpressed and blasé about the entire thing. I feel that the school should try to make interviews more uniform as I doubt I have a very high score following that interview. I'm guessing the two intereiews balanced out giving me a mediocre score sadly 🙁 I am by no means decided on which school I would like to go to, so I'm hoping for the best! Thanks you for the support!

Does anybody know whether we direct our "Thank You" e-mails to the admission office? Or do we send them directly to the interviewer? Thanks! Good luck and congrats to those interviewed/accepted. I had a really good feeling about Albany! Too bad I though my interview was blahh...

I sent my thank you letter for my interviewer to the email provided on the interview sheet. The email is to Maria Sgarlata at [email protected]. I just told her who my interviewer was and she was more than happy to forward it along. Good luck! 🙂 :luck:

Ah, rejection via email - part is such sweet sorrow, for now anyways! Great work and good luck everyone!

Has anyone tried logging into the WebAdvisor to complete the Albany Medical College Financial Aid Application? I see the AMC ID in the email but no password. I tried resetting or retrieving the password via the WebAdvisor with no luck. I have no idea how this thing works.

How do you have FinAid information already? I haven't gotten anything, even after being accepted....

don't know, I received the email even before my interview... Did you submit your FAFSA yet?

Edit: My FAFSA was processed on 2/3 and the email came on 2/27 if that helps
