I agree that it's polite. Complete over 3 months and still no word, not even a hold?? 😕

complete here since August. haven't heard anything back yet either.
If their next communication is via e-mail, maybe I should stop logging into the portal and checking for status updates every other week

best of luck to everyone!

They will email pre-interview HOLD like this:

Dear xxxxxx:

Your application to the Albany Medical College has been placed in the
"Hold" category.

As we review applications, we inevitably find that the number of
qualified applications exceeds the number of applicants that we are
able to interview. From an applicant pool of approximately 10,000
candidates, roughly 600 will be invited to interview. Screening is
done on an ongoing basis as applications become complete. Therefore,
in some cases a final screening decision is temporarily deferred. If
over the course of the admissions season we find that too few
candidates were initially invited to interview, we will turn to the
"Hold" category and invite selected applicants to interview.

As a reminder, we do not accept updates or letters of interest sent
to us via fax, "regular mail", or email to supplement the required
documents to complete your file. Unsolicited updates that are sent to
our office will not be added to your file, nor will they be
acknowledged. We will contact you if the Admissions Committee
requests updated information.

We will continue to keep you informed about the status of your
application. Should you have any questions, please feel free to
contact us at (518) 262-5521.

Sincerely,

Joanne H. Nanos, MS EdS
Director of Admissions
and Student Records

I was contacted by my host a little less than a week before my interview

Submitted primary 10/29....verified 11/29...haven't received the secondary yet. When should I be worried?

Just received II, Secondary submitted late sept.

decided to withdraw, slots are all early Feb.

hope someone else gets it, best of luck! :luck:

Interview Invite as well. Completed sometime in mid-august. Probably withdrawing because I can't afford to travel to the east coast one more time (they were not receptive to my 'in the area' emails).

For those waiting for interview invites, here or in any other school, there is still hope and at least 3 months left.

I know Albany doesn't accept activity updates. Does anyone know if they accept new transcripts/fall grade reports?

Does Albany change the online status to hold after the hold email?

I just realized that i never got the complete email but show up as complete on the status page. I am wondering if I missed the hold email. Complete sometime in July.

Has anyone gotten an invite after being put on the pre-interview hold list?

Is anybody interviewing tomorrow and going to the Student Welcoming Committee information session tonight? Also, if anyone has already interviewed and gone to the info session, was it worthwhile?

Thanks in advance, kind folks 🙂

Has anyone had any luck with calling their office to check on the status of one's application? I have been complete for over 4 months now and still no word.

Just called the admissions office inquiring about being on the "UC" list. The admissions rep said they check the figures on a month-month and half basis to see if their enrollment numbers are on par. I think this is referring to the "cut-off" score for the acceptance category vs. UC category. She said every year is different and this year may be completely different from last. I was hoping to get some sort of a date, but atleast I got something. Hope this helps!

can you clarify what that means? does it mean that they only check once a month about applications? and what's UC?

UC is a post-interview decision; it stands for "under consideration." It is more dynamic than a waitlist, so they give it a different name. The board determines a minimum cut off score for acceptance periodically throughout the application cycle. People who overcome that minimum score who were on the "under consideration" category are accepted. This means that there is movement on the UC throughout the application. The score of an applicant is determined post interview by a committee vote and that score will not change after it is determined. Hope this answers your question. Good luck!:luck:

thank you very much! mine has just kept saying ready for review for atleast 2 months now. I'm not sure what's going on and haven't heard back from them since i was complete

Interview invite last week! They were receptive to my in the area email and gave me a decision within a week 🙂. good luck everyone!

Neeeeervous. Interview next week. If I were to bring my boyfriend along to the interview, do you think my interviewer would mind? Making out with someone really helps me de-stress when facing a tense situation, and somehow I doubt that my interviewer will oblige.

Considering interviewers generally think anything less than a suit is riske, you would have to have a 46T for adcoms to somehow miss that one.

I wouldn't worry too much, the interviews were somewhat heavier on ethics, but I didn't feel overwhelmed. The second interview was kind of rough; I left with the impression that I would be put on the uc list, but I think my experience was the exception to the rule.

Anyway, I'm kind of eager to see if my suspicion regarding the decision is correct. I know the adcom met today to discuss decisions. In general, how long does it take for them to release the decisions made at these meetings? They said we might hear this week or the next, but do they have a set pattern for releasing decisions like other schools?

Edit: Just received the email this morning. UC list 🙁 guess I was right...

Same complete since August and still silent on ii or not.

Make sure you check your spam folders!! I got the hold email and didn't know for about a week because it got caught in my spam. There was no status update on the site for my hold either.

I've called the admissions office and was told they haven't even touched my file yet..I was mid-October. They were really nice...the person I spoke with said they've still got quite a bit to go before they get to me. So don't give up just yet, Albany's a wonderful place, there's still hope!!!👍👍👍👍

Bunch of slackers on this thread!

Just so you guys know, the next admissions committee meeting is January 10th. This was stated explicitly at my interview (which was incredibly fun) today.

They're slacking, I've been waiting for months. I haven't even been put on hold.

Just got put on hold pre-interview. I'm happy I guess. It's not a rejection 🙂

I have also been complete since early august and have not heard anything.

Does anyone think they move people off the UC list before may?

Can anybody comment on how long the interview day is? I know that the interview invite states 5-6hours, but can anybody confirm this?

TY

If you interview in the morning, you will arrive around 8:15-8:30, have breakfast, an admissions presentation, your interviews, and then lunch and a tour. You are free to go after that, by which time it will be 1:00, or a total of about 4.5 or 5 hours if you want to arrive early.
If you interview in the afternoon, you will be scheduled to arrive at 11:15. Your interviews are after the lunch/tour and you will be free to go after they are done. Times vary, depending on interviewing availability, but I think most people are done by 3 or 4 at the latest, so that's at most 5 hours. Interviews are about an hour long, and you could have either 1 or 2, just depending on scheduling that day. They're a little staggered just due to logisitics (e.g. if you're getting a second interview and your interviewer is still finishing up with his/her first candidate), so be prepared for some waiting. If you only get 1 interviewer, that person will be on the Admissions Committee. If you have a second interview, the non-committee member will be submitting a writeup to the committee.

They just say to give yourself 5-6 hours just in case, but you will probably be out of there before that time. If you're worried about catching a flight, the Albany airport is really small; it's one of those airports where you can probably show up less than an hour before your flight and be a-OK. Except for busy travel holidays like the day before Thanksgiving or Christmas, I've always gotten dropped off and walked straight through security with no issues. The airport is about 20-30 minutes away from the school. If you're trying to catch a train, the Amtrak station is just across the river; it's probably 10-15 minutes away.

Wow thank you for the informative post sallysparrow...my interview is soon, and I am very excited to see the school and meet the faculty/students. Albany is a top choice for sure!

Rejected. Not a top choice but still a bummer. Congrats to everyone else who have ii or acceptances here!

The next committee meeting is tomorrow. I'm nervous. Does anybody who has heard already have any idea how long it takes to hear after committee meets?

Edit: Uh, just kidding. This sums it up.

Interview invite! Complete early September. Scheduled for 2/23 🙁

I'm gonna be at NYMC on 2/7 though. Anyone know if Albany is receptive to date changes from in the area emails?
