Hey guys do you think Georgetown SMP is worth the money if wait listed at Creighton this year or would you advise doing something else as I reapply?

29 O Mcat 3.59 gpa ( plan to retake mcat in August)

Thanks for the help!

With a 3.59? No way! An MCAT retake and perhaps some EC work depending on what you've done so far would be a much better use of your time than an SMP, which will cost you $50,000 and is intended for people with a lower GPA than yours. Study hard for the MCAT and boost the rest of your application...don't waste your money on an SMP.

Completely agree. I'm doing post-bacc work on my own as an extension student at the alma mater. If you pay for classes individually, it's a lot cheaper than an SMP.

However, with that 3.59, I'd put a ****ton of energy into an MCAT retake and spend the year applying, working on ECs, and enjoying life. Definitely chat with admissions about your file and, if they suggest specific classes (say, if you didn't take certain upper-div bio courses that would be helpful), then take them individually through a local school.

I got in with a lower MCAT (28), but a higher GPA (3.85). I say this just to tell you that it might not be your MCAT keeping you down (as it would appear other people are saying). If I was you, I would talk to an ADCOM and see exactly why you didn't get in, then fix that. It's a waste of time to work on a part of your app that they think is fine. Whether it be your MCAT, your GPA, or your ECs, find out what they want and fix it.

I second that, I made it in with a 28R and 3.96. Its the whole package mcat, grades, ec's, statement, letters etc. It's probably a lot cheaper to retake the MCAT than it would be to worry about a post bac program. Plus you get a yr off to drink delicious microbrews at your local pub...not too shabby

To those of you who deferred or tried... will you be bound by the Committee's decision that day? Or will you have a few days to decide whether or not to accept the position for this year or the following year? I think I need to request a deferral to have it as an option but I do not want to jeopardize my spot if it turns out I don't need it. It may be that the longer I wait to ask, the less of a chance I have of getting the request granted, and I hate to string the alternates along until the last minute if I am giving up my spot... Also, it is Creighton's policy to confirm that you will not apply to any additional schools? Just asking so I have a complete picture. Thanks!

Just got off the alternate list today! Best of luck to those still waiting!
