What really frustrates me is the fact some (like me) have been waiting 11-12 weeks and others get sent to committee 4-5 weeks after their interview. Does anyone know the underlying reason behind this? Do they rush applications who have a 3.7 and a 35S or something? I hope that the delay has no effect on my outcome.

Edit: Now with all that said, Drexel is still my top choice (sent them a letter of intent and everything). Hopefully the wait is worth it in the end.

It really does depend on how fast your interviewer gets things in. That is what all the students told me when I was there. I found out I was accepted in about 5 weeks, but I am not in the 3.7 35S category. I am a 3.57 and 31P (Basically average stats). Also understand that as the year goes on, more and more applicants are being evaluated so it just takes time. The waiting is horrible but you will get through it.

So how long are people usually waiting once their status is with admissions committee post interview? I think ive been with them for a few weeks now.

It took me 2 weeks to get a decision

Just playing devil's advocate here but do you think the admissions office can be a reflection of the school as a whole? Generally, I also seemed to like schools where I liked how the admissions office was run - even if it meant I found out about my rejection early.

I think it is possible to be too quick to judge on this count. Others have complained about the long waits and occasional rudeness in the past, but I had no such experiences during my application year and since matriculating I haven't encountered anything like it. For how large Drexel is, it's surprisingly though not perfectly efficient.

xantho, judging by your new byline, should I take it you matched? ophtho's early, yes? 🙂

Haha yes, it is early and I did match

(I guess now you can narrow me down to 1 of 4 people...my identity has been blown )

Haha! Maybe you were the one who guilted me into signing up for the ophtho IG at the fair. I haven't made it to any of the meetings, so I still couldn't figure out who you are. Your secret is safe from me, heh.

My identity has never been well concealed here. Whoops. 😉

Guilted?!? I prefer to think of it as inspired

Yeah that was me though

...and you should come to a meeting!

I sent in a post-interview update letter, but haven't heard anything from them confirming they received it, etc. Does anyone know if they send confirmation for something like this? I'd obviously rather not call admissions knowing how busy they are.

Not sure if anyone else had this, but thought I'd throw it out there:

When I was at my interview in mid October, every one of the 16 or so interviewers was "not traditional" in a sense. In that, every one there had already graduated college and was working.

Did anyone else have this? Typical or just a fluke?

I asked at my interview. 3 of the dozen or so were non-trads.

I received an interview invite this morning (pretty surprised since it's getting a little late in the cycle). I noticed there were a few days open in February. Since I was at work, I figured I'd wait until I was done so I had time to look at my schedule and pick a date that would fit with everything.

Lone behold, I went home and tried to schedule, and the next open date is on March 20th.

I guess I will just have to schedule it on the 20th, but does anyone know how difficult it is to schedule an earlier date if it opens up? Like is it a matter of just clicking on another date online, or do I have to call the admissions office and request for a date change?

I think in previous posts it was mentioned that it is just a matter of doing it yourself and clicking "cancel interview" on the online portal and then checking the online interview scheduler for other dates.

I was just put on pre-interview hold. Does anyone know how likely it is to come off a pre-interview hold?

I sent a pre-interview update letter that they did not confirm receiving. However, I was taken off hold/given an interview invitation about 2 weeks after I sent it so I feel pretty confident that it was received and they just don't send confirmations.

So a few days ago I emailed Drexel (politely) stating that I interviewed the middle of Nov. and still have not been sent to committee. The response I got was:

..."your file has gone to Committee but there is a back log due to cancellation of meetings and the Committee is trying to review as many as possible in a one day, weekly meeting. Please continue to be patient and hopefully a decision will be made soon. Thank you."

I guess they're just slow with updating the online statuses. This may ease some people's minds on here.

haha I figured! I wrote my letter of intent last week, so if I get in I'm definitely going here. Hopefully that letter comes for us tomorrow :xf:
.. i think they mailed out the letters either monday or tuesday.. so if you are are in NY / NJ / PA i think it should arrive tomoro or friday

Ugh, I was hoping they'd have mailed them out Friday or Saturday. I live in DC so it should get here around the same time.

Does anyone know generally how long it takes from your file to go from under review by the committee to a decision/final decision? Combing through previous pages I am seeing maybe 2-3 weeks? Would that be a fairly accurate assessment?

I received the 'final decision has been reached' status last week. I called up and they told me the letter would be going on on Tuesday. Being from NJ, I expected to have received it today...but there's always tomorrow.

Anyone else get the latest round of decision letters yet?

No mail today for me either. Torture please end tomorrow... :xf:

Rejected. Co-valedictorian of Rutgers University, 31R on the MCAT

When I got the 'final decision' status I hoped it would be an acceptance considering I wasn't rejected by the other schools I interviewed at. 23 applications, 0 acceptances. 2 yrs of research, 6+yrs as an EMT. Done for this year.

So, to me it looks like
Short Interview with Dr Eisen + 31MCAT(verbal 8)+ 4.0GPA = rejection

And for my case
Short interview with Dr. Eisen + 32MCAT(verbal 9) + 3.86 GPA = Rejection ?

I have a bad feeling about this...

Rejected. Interviewed with Dr. Stein...thought it went pretty well even though he was the coolest, most welcoming, warmest, most prepared guy ever. Oh well. Later guys!

I was just about to ask if anyone has gotten rejected post interview yet. I just got a "final decision has been reached" status.
It has been 2 months since my interview .. ughhhh.. im not expecting good news..

Sorry for your frustration, but be better than this man

(for the school) It would be very easy to track your posting history to figure out who you were....just saying

It's all good dude. If he didn't give a crap about me then, I highly doubt he gives a crap now. Drexel is a solid school, it's a shame things didn't work out. Life works itself out though.

P.S. I edited my post for ya 😉

Sorry to hear about the rejection. Your scores are average (which is not a bad thing, mine was about the same), research is dime-a-dozen and as far as the "6+ yrs as an EMT", it really depends on your experience as an EMT and how you played it up in the personal statement and during the interview. This whole process is about "selling" yourself. Research, volunteers, EMT (or any medical related work), great scores, etc. are just letters and numbers on a page and only go so far to make you a viable candidate. These days, it seems almost everyone does research and volunteering to the point that it is practically meaningless. With your MCAT and GPA, 23 apps and 0 acceptances has me thinking that you didn't sell yourself well enough. I'm not saying that you are not good enough or that you didn't do enough, just that you may need to rethink your approach if you have to go through another round of applications. I saw in an earlier post that you have been waitlisted, hopefully one of those pulls through. I also saw that you were considering retaking the MCAT - don't do it, 31R is fine and it is not the reason you haven't gotten an acceptance. Anyhow, best of luck!

Thanks for the feedback. Apparently so. If you get invited to interview, I don't think they mean to interview you just for the wait-list (though some schools I interviewed at accused other schools of doing that).

Anyway, what's done is done for this year. But I will take a long hard look at how I'm selling myself (or lack thereof) for for next year!

You just can never know.

Short Interview with Dr. Eisen (Started 30 Min late) + 31MCAT(Verbal 10) + 3.57 GPA = Acceptance

Mine started 15 minutes late. I dont think that matters. He was just busy with his patient.

But I will be very pleased if I get in.

So thank you jojo for giving me some hope...

Status updated today to "Your file is currently under review by a member of the admissions committee and will be sent to committee shortly. No decision has yet been made regarding your admission status to Drexel University. "

I interviewed 1/9

Has anyone ever gotten a decision in the mail without having their online status change? I was told via email I'm now with the committee but my status online still says I'm with a member of the committee. This Thursday will be 13 weeks so I'm dying to hear some news soon.
