For those of you who got the secondary, what are the essay questions? Non-trad here so essays that ask about things after graduation apply to me. Thanks!

If you are re-applying, briefly (4000 characters max) summarize your activities since your previous application.

If you have already graduated, briefly (4000 characters max) summarize your activities since graduation.

Our interview season runs from late-September through mid-February. Please indicate any significant (two or more weeks) restrictions on your availability for interviews during this period. If none, leave blank.

Good luck have fun 🙂

They probably download the applications from AMCAS in batches. It is just a matter of time before we get their email.

Great, thanks so much! Really appreciate it. =)

Is there still an HST essay? Thanks!

You know what, I'm not sure. I'm applying to NP so maybe the additional essay pops up if you check HST?

The login page is here. Maybe if you use the "Forgot your password" function, you can get the password sent to you before the official invite arrives? Not sure, but hope it helps.

can't retrieve password before getting invite. thanks though!

Received and submitted, all within ten minutes! Considering the length of some other secondaries, my application to Harvard feels incomplete in comparison.

I got a letter from Harvard asking me to apply... I didn't really want to, because I don't think I'll get in so I didn't want to waste my money, and I have little interest in going up north,... but my dad insisted on me at least applying, and he's paying for the app... so yeah, I'm applying.

No email from Harvard yet. Is this an auto-reject? 😳

Website says instructions will be mailed out to all AMCAS applicants... I'm assuming that means no screen. Must be a slow send out, trying to see which of us flame out from anxiety before the $85, no essay app even gets to us...

edit: damn, beaten

FYI, the Harvard secondary website is awesome! Cool hover effects (I'm easily impressed) and they keep an online inbox of every email they've ever sent you! 😎

Any MSTP people with secondaries? Are there essays in addition to the MD secondary?
Thanks!

Still no secondary - I even called and all he'd say was, 'within a week.' Gee, thanks.

Those that received the secondary and submitted it... have your letters of rec been updated yet?

Thanks.

I have a suspicion that many medical schools download applications alphabetically based on school name, assuming that the primary was submitted around the same time. I always got my secondary invites a little later than others too...

Mine starts with an H, so I'm not sure about that, but you're probably right and there is some sort of criteria/invisible order that they use to send off secondaries. Still, they are taking their time.

Mine starts with a V and I got it today. I'm not sure what the system is.

i dont think ive ever been so impatient waiting to give $85 away

has anyone from florida received the secondary yet?

Secondary finally received.

Hmmm. To apply or not to apply....

so the only two programs we can select from are the "new pathway" and "MIT joint program" ?

if we just want to be in a regular MD prgoram, we select "new pathway" correct?

I can't get a LOR from one of my supervisors (I also listed this activity as one of my most significant) because she is on maternity leave and barely has time to sleep, let alone write me a LOR. When should I email the school about this?

Yes there is still an HST essay. Here is the prompt:

ESSAY FOR APPLICATIONS TO THE HARVARD-MIT DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY (HST) We strongly recommend that you prepare your essay (4000 characters max) using a word processing software program, and paste it into the space below. Be sure to save and print your essay using your word processor - you will not be able to print your essay from this web page. Instructions: The HST Division represents a unique environment that draws on the combined resources of Harvard University and MIT to provide a distinct preclinical education tailored to preparing students for a career as a physician-scientist, with an emphasis on quantitative and analytic approaches to areas of critical important to medicine. Please explain your interest in HST, including how your prior experiences, including research, have prepared you for this challenging opportunity. In lieu of identifying specific HST faculty or research opportunities, please focus on your particular experiences, interests and aspirations. Please limit your comments to the equivalent of one page of single spaced text with a font size of 10 or 12.

Ahh I don't see the prompt for the HST... all I see is where it asks you to explain what you've been doing post-graduation. Was this something we were supposed to mark on the AMCAS when we select HMS? (HST as opposed to the regular MD, I mean)

But I suppose it doesn't matter b/c apparently I don't have the course requirements :-( I did not take any math beyond Calc III, and I only took 1 semester of Calculus-based Physics... Gahhh! Are they super strict about these requirements? Especially if you've taken further advanced courses emphasizing math/physics/chemistry/etc? My CalcIII course did have a section on DiffEq, and while I did not take Calc-based physics, I did take P-chem and graduate-level P-chem where a lot of calculus was involved...

EDIT: JK, I do see the HST essay.

I'm a little confused about the 1st page where it says:

"Submit to AMCAS the composite letter of evaluation from your premedical advisory committee; indicate the name of the institution below."

Followed by:

"If you prefer that a different institution be notified (e.g. post baccalaureate program), please indicate below."

With one blank under these statements. Does this blank refer to the LOE name or the different institution for application notification?

They're not super super strict on the requirements. They'll inform you if you don't meet them and if you're accepted, you're unlikely to be denied because of the requirements. However, that is for NP, I would imagine that HST would be stricter (you probably do need to know DiffEQ and have a way to demonstrate it).

Submitted secondary to harvard today. I hope I don't seem desperate (as there was only about a 3 hour turnaround time since the point when I received the invite). 😀
Naw, I doubt they'll think you're desperate.

The blank is for the name of the institution that is submitting the committee letter for you. I don't know what's unclear about that.

they both refer to the same blank. there's also an address blank that doesnt need to be filled in?

It seems like there was a blank missing below the "letters of recommendation" section.

The "institution" and "address" fields seem to be if you want another institution to be notified besides your primary undergrad.

can you apply to both HST and new pathway?

Thanks for answering!

My rec letters are not showing up on the secondary. Anyone else having the same problem?

It's the same for me. I submitted back on July 18 so it's been that way for awhile. I emailed today and got a response that letters usually take 48 hours to be processed. I emailed again to ask if I should be concerned (since it's been well more than 48 hours), and am waiting for a response...

It could be a snag on their end, or maybe they haven't started processing yet. Hope this helps. 🙂

I'm the same but I wouldn't send so many emails over it... I am sure they will update soon enough. I mean if they are in AMCAS, Harvard will download them. No worries. 🙂

Imma drop some wisdom on y'all. Emailing the admissions office all the time is not a good idea. Give a week after any event and when you wanted it to be completed before you send an email. They're busy. This goes for all schools.

Alright, advice duly noted - thanks.

I just wanted to check since it's been a week (almost 2) since submitting. And then they responded fairly quickly, so I figured I send a quick message back since the information they gave was... well, a bit contradictory.

Thanks.

So I tried saving the first page of the application and I get this:

500 ErrorPage

Sorry, it appears the page you were looking for doesn't exist anymore or might have beeen moved!
Please go back to Home Page, and then look for links to the information you want.

Anyone have any input on this? Thanks.

How true is this "not rolling admissions" thing? I have graduated and have many other secondaries who are rolling admissions that I'd rather get to first.

Thanks!
