Pre-interview rejection email today. 🙁
I know I probably sound like an idiot, but what does this mean? You're rejected before you get an II, or you get an II and then they change their minds and reject you before your actual interview date? I think I'll go with the former, the latter sounds pretty rotten.

your first assumption is correct. an applicant submit primary & secondary, and rejection letter comes without invitation invite.

disappointing for us though =/

Hey all, viewed these forums for some time now but joined today.

I applied 6/28 with 3.5 GPA, 31R MCAT -- decent activities, including a previous job with North Shore-LIJ.

I haven't heard anything from them since submitting my secondary application, but saw some people got rejection emails recently.

I've been fretting about this school for a long time now because it is one I really want to go to if I am accepted. I live near the school and have been there many times -- it's really nice. I'm confident I could prove myself in an interview too...if given the opportunity.

Alas, I'm still waiting. They say on their applicant portal that I'm still under review so I guess that is something positive to latch on to.

Anyone else in "pre-interview limbo" like me? Would it be a bad idea to follow up and give the admission office a call if you haven't been offered an interview?

By this point, it couldn't hurt to call and ask about the status of your application (to make sure it didn't get lost or something! rare, but it happens). If you have anything to update with, that could probably help as well. Best of luck to you :luck:

Just curious how late did you apply?

I completed AMCAS in mid-October, was verified in early November, and submitted my secondary about a week or two after. On the interview scheduling site there were only a few more days open for interviews. I don't know if maybe they extend it as the season goes or thats the end of the interview cycle. Good luck to everyone still waiting on II's!

this is my top choice! can't wait till they start shipping out acceptances in january.

For anyone who interviewed, do you have any idea when acceptances are going to be released? I know "January" is the general time frame, but during my interview a few months ago the admissions secretary said they are trying to get acceptances out earlier than last year, which was January 14th.

Interviewed yesterday, and they just told us "January". So there's really no telling. But they also said they were only giving out a handful of acceptances in that first batch, so most of us will end up waiting longer to find out anyway.

nice SDN sn

nice SDN sn

haha, thanks. I was amazed no one had taken it yet, but I knew it was such a common online sn that I couldn't be identified from it. I have another sn that I use on many online forums and games, but it's also my email address, so I didn't want to use it and make it so identifiable.

And nice av. JJ is a world beater.

there will most likely be no more activity until jan, so there is no need for a useless bump if you have nothing constructive to say or anything related to admission. thx.

I guess you are right. Since Hofstra isn't giving out first batch of acceptance till february (or was it late jan?), and doubt they'd interview during holidays.

For some reason I've been hanging on Jan 15th. Does anyone have any concrete info on the first wave of acceptances?

Just (literally!) got an acceptance email! Was not expecting to hear back so quickly!! I was one of the first to interview wayy back in October.

Accepted via email today. Interview was late October. Good luck everyone!!!!

Congrats guys!! Was hofstra your first choice?!

accepted too! Yes! congrats to others who have been accepted! i was expecting late Jan, but i guess news came earlier than expected.

Congrats to you and all the other lucky ones. Were you also an October interviewee?

Also, did anything change on their online Portal, or does it look the same as before? Thanks!

Congrats everyone! Not gonna lie, I am EXTREMELY jealous 😛

Also: did your status updates change on the hofstra portal?

Yes, portal changed. When you log on you see the same letter you were emailed. You can then accept (or decline) the offer online and pay the deposit etc (I believe - I didn't check too thoroughly.)

Stats: 3.8/33 IS

I have my interview scheduled for February 13th, and I'm trying to reserve a place to stay from now. Does anybody know a cheap place to stay that's still easy/quick to get to Hofstra from? And how to get to Hofstra from said place?

Also, I'm completely open to sharing a room with somebody to cut costs.

Thanks in advance!! ^^

Accepted as well! I'm so excited, I really loved this school when I interviewed. My stats are 3.8/34, IS. Congrats to everyone else who just heard!

If any current students or incoming students who know about the living situation please help me out with my questions. I totally forgot to ask the students when I was at the interview.

1) Do I need a car?

2) On campus or off campus? I am thinking about on campus.

3) Meal plan or no? What do you do for food?

Thanks a lot.

1) Do I need a car?

from my interview, it was clear that you would need a car. M1s and M2s have some clinical "mentors" they work with and the sites can be spread out. in addition, the clinical center is 20 mins driving distance from the campus. current students can comment more, but i got the feeling that you need a car.

Congrats to everyone accepted, and to those still waiting, there's still hope. Some people in my class didn't get in until June, so there will be more acceptances to come.

1) Some people in the current class do not have a car, but their lives are a lot more difficult than those that do have a car. I would strongly recommend getting a car. While the trains and public transportation are great getting to and from the city, they're not as useful for getting around long island.

2) About half of our class lives on campus and half lives off. I live off campus in a house in Westbury with 5 other med students and we love it. The rent is cheaper than the dorms, and you don't have to deal with a 24 hour security person to sign in your guests. We found our house on Craigslist, and it has worked out pretty well. I personally took a year off before med school started, and hadn't lived in a dorm since sophomore year of undergrad, so I didn't want to go back to that style of living. Some people really like the dorms though, so make the decision that's right for you. The proximity to school can't be beat (for the dorms).

3) I think if you live on campus, you are required to have some kind of meal plan. I eat on campus about 3-4 times per week, but I don't have a meal plan. There are plenty of restaurants around so you won't go hungry. I don't cook all that much, but my housemates do, so I mooch meals off of them whenever I can.

Our class is really excited to have you get here. Good luck with everything! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I was actually a december interviewee. Portal did change as mentioned above. I am OOS

Does anybody know the cheapest way to get from La Guardia Airport to Hofstra/the vicinity?

Also, if anybody is interviewing on 2/13 and staying at the Marriott, I would love to share a room to cut costs!!

I stayed at Holiday inn nearby. Much cheaper, if you can't find anyone to share marriott.

I just checked, and the prices were nearly identical! =O It'd cost even more to stay there, factoring in transportation to the actual university =/

Anybody know how often batches of acceptances are going out?

Congrats to everyone who got accepted!:clap:

Has anyone who applied MD/PhD heard back yet?

oh no! well hotel price does change based on volume. poop.

So that's probably it for acceptances from the first half of interviewees. Sad panda

I counted 5 acceptances here. Not sure how many were given out in total, but my impression was they were only giving a fraction of their acceptances in the first batch, so there's still time and space. Just more waiting unfortunately.

I remember from my interview day that they only do plan to give out handful of first day acceptance. we are required to put down deposit in two weeks, and i think school will go on from there.

hang in there guys! and see you guys at hofstra next year.

I interviewed on Dec 1. Has anyone from around then head back? if we havent, are we rejected/waitlisted?

I interviewed Nov 2 or 3. A person I interviewed with got in. I don't think we can make any guesses about our status considering Hofstra will admit only very slowly most likely, being a new school with a 60-student cap.

congrats to you too, gecko!

I interviewed on Nov. 3rd
