from my understanding, interview invites go out everyday. and acceptance notifications are on the 15th of the month after your interview

Hey everyone im writing on this tread for the first time. I am a Louisiana resident so my chance of getting into one of the two LSU medical schools is strong but Howard as my number one choice since my family just moved here and my brother graduated from Howard and now he is in the general surgery residency program with Howard. I stand strong with Howard's mission and I love the DC area. My AAMC application was complete and submitted 9/2/11 and its waiting to be reviewed and verified now....im terrified that it will take long before verification and before I get a secondary application (does howard wait until you get verified before you they send a secondary?) I found a copy of the secondary application online, can i complete it and send it before I get the secondary by email???? I don't want to be late any more, people are already getting interviews (congrats people and hope to be together in the fall as medical students!!)

my grades are ok but not great: GPA 3.8 MCAT 29 (P10 V9 B10) good EC

To do list:
1. Pray in English

2. Pray is Spanish and French

3. Mail written prayer to Jesus (note: confirm address to heaven)
4. Email prayer to [email protected]
5. Live right (note: keep journal of deeds and thoughts)
6. Submit secondary (TYPED) with bad***** responses.
7. Walk secondary to the medical school (yeah I live a block away from HUCM lol)
8. Pray some more.

Hey my application was processed on 8/24 and I received the secondary application on 9/6...so its about a 2 week gap...Good luck, I hope you receive yours soon!! 🙂

IMHO, med school staff are very very very busy, so if they say they won't do something, there's little to no chance they'll do it. Did AMCAS send you a confirmation that your letters had been received?

+1. If AMCAS received your recommendations, then the schools usually receive them as well (upon verification).

Yes Howard accepts close to 78 % of the students they interview. So it's closer to the 80 % side which is pretty damn high!

I took qtr system classes too. i just put first 2 courses of the series.

Did you verify with the administration before doing that? I'm not sure what to do because if you just put two classes in and it doesn't fulfill "one year" requirement for the subject in the quarter system.

Of course, this whole audit process is completely unnecessary since they have our transcript info in our primary.

Anybody have any input?

No I didnt verify it before submitting. I figured this was the most logical thing to do. As you said, they can always email us or look at our transcripts for reference. I also received an email that my secondary has been processed. so it has not been a problem for me yet.

Just a heads up. The secondary application is VERY messy. Be prepared. It drove me nuts.

I received a secondary e-mail without the secondary attached...I've e-mailed twice for a replacement, but so far, no luck. I'm sure they're very busy, so I'm trying to practice patience. Come on Howard, send me your secondary! 🙂

I know, it was very annoying. There is no way to track if they got it unless they send you an email, which I got. They didn't even accept cashier's checks, which are just as good as money. This school is very particular.

Just some advice for those who haven't submitted your II. You can get free money orders/cashier's checks/regular checks if you have a savings account with US Bank with 5,000 or more. It's a bargain compared to what others require. Not sure if others have 5,000, but I'd thought I'd just throw it out there. Every little bit helps.

I called 4 weeks after I sent in my secondary since I hadn't heard anything. Turns out they received it a week after I sent it in but forgot to send me a confirmation email.

If it has been at least 4 weeks, I suggest you give them a call.

Hi everyone! I am also applying to Howard, but I totally bombed my first MCAT and plan on retaking the exam in January. I already submitted my AMCAS to several schools. Should I just withdraw and apply next cycle, or should keep applying. I'm so upset and confused. 🙁

Seeing that the an application cycle (from AMCAS to secondaries) can be pretty expensive, I would think twice about maintaining an active application this cycle. If you think the other aspects of your application are strong enough to get you an interview (or have gotten you interviews already), then I would say keep your app going. In fact, I believe most schools only "consider" the Jan MCAT if you've interviewed already. I say most because the rest won't even look at MCATs taken post September 2011.

Your situation is a tricky one but I feel like if you do your research and find out which schools will or will not look at your Jan MCAT, then you can keep this whole thing relatively cheaper and maximize your chances. If you don't mind, how bad was your score? I ask because what we may consider horrible scores (thanks to SDN, our friends, etc) might not be that bad.
