You have to watch them in order...my favorite is the one about 'favorite songs'. I know both of the songs by heart now. Im so ashamed.

Stress relief whilst awaiting primary application acknowledgement of receipt. sigh

Lol. You know the clip where Purple is on the "city bus"? I swear that I teach each and every one of those characters...

I'm sick and unable to do much of anything but surf SDN and check my e-mail. Thanks for the entertainment!

Awww I hope you feel better.

I spend about 5 of my 11 plus hours at work on SDN. Ever since I got verified everytime my phone plays my email received tone I get excited. I cleaned out my spam box and check that all day. Cmon HU where's the secondary!??

Re: the cartoon, I feel like I work with those people everyday. I swear to you this woman I work with could be Orangey's mom. I think I am going to start a blog just to pass the time.

But lets discuss something real quick.
When I was at the information session the gentleman that works in the admissions office stated that people need to be careful with the types of pics the attach to their applications. All that being said, I dont take alot of pics but I have one that I included in an introductory powerpoint for the new boss at work. Its just a head and shoulder pic of me at my house at christmas. You dont see any lights or anything but its one of those softly lit pics.

What kind of pics did you guys attach to your secondary applications? And I def dont have one of those Who's Who pics with the button down white collared shirt and blazer and I dont have 45 bucks for someone to take THAT type of picture.

I put on a nice blouse with blazer and went to a local photo shop and got a 2x2 passport picture taken. It was only around 5 dollars for one. For me it was even less than that each (about 4) since I wanted more than one copy. Hope that helps! 🙂

Did you get a digital photo? Or a paper copy?
And five dollas! Good Lawd thats alot of money!!!! lol Sorry I couldnt resist.

i also got the email from ms. walk about a decision being made...this was way sooner than i expected...she said that email may come out late november for our group

...also i remember she said that she doesn't email applicants to call for their decision unless they are accepted, so i guess if you don't hear anything until you get it in the mail it's a bad sign

Hey Hey
when did you interview?
How was it?
Deets please? 😀

Note to self: Stay off SDN lol

Hi guys, HU doesn't seem to be very good about returning email questions but I was wondering if anybody had similar experience.

I have reference letters from science profs except they all supervised me in research courses and they were pass/fail courses. I also have a reference letter from my graduate supervisor for my master's thesis courses, but again pass or fail courses I think I can get one letter from another prof who has taught me in a course, which leaves me with a letter missing. Do you think that would disqualify me? because I cant get 2 letters from a prof who taught me in a course that has grades, it's been a while since I have been in undergrad so asking them is not an option.
Also, do they have to be prof? or just university faculty...not sure how strict they are about checking for all this... any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

id rather stay a little anonymous

the student body is phenomenol...i felt like dr. walk was very down to earth and talk to you like a real person/not some programmed spiel

interview was really conversational..this may vary as i heard others had ethical questions

one thing that does annoy me is the amount of typos...i understand they have a small staff but this is the stuff MS Word would catch
Anatomy lab smells bad but after 5 min u get use to it
i'm not from the DC area but i have to admit DC is amazing
They have standardized patient rooms but no simulation mannequins...apparently they are working on that right now

i dont know what other details you want lol ...you can pm me if you have specific questions... best of luck to everyone :luck:

Most schools are more lenient with LoR requirements for "non-traditional" applicants. I think most med schools understand the difficulty in asking undergraduate profs for recs when you're years out of school. However, the website does say "letters from research staff or volunteer venues will be accepted IN ADDITION to science recommendations referred to above" (their capitalization, not mine) so you might be out of luck. I'd continue to keep calling/e-mailing the Howard office to get the official story.

I'm pretty sure everyone had a faculty member..students were there to answer questions and they popped in during the info session/at lunch

In regards to the secondary pictures, I feel this is very apropos... Wear your hair just for him, darlin'. Show 'em that you care (about the community and underserved populations) 😉

🙁 thank you Dr Dang. I'm VNese immigrant from california! I'm applying this year. Sent in my 2nd app 3 weeks ago and still waiting for interview invite... hope I will get some luck! :luck::luck::luck:. Good luck everyone! Keep it up and believe in yourself

What if you dont have any hair 🙁

Dusty (and myself) are clearly not being culturally competent to our hairless friends. 🙁 All the more reason I need to be accepted to Howard: to be molded by their emphasis on diversity and tolerance...

Anybody do anything fun today?

So I'm currently a teacher...Near the end of my class, some of the 10th graders ran around the class room with scotch tape plastered over their mouths (upon confiscation of the tape they insisted that since they were quiet, their actions were justified...) My 12th graders "dissected" a pickle. We later had a discussion about why it's important to not fake "shank" classmates with the scalpel, even in jest. I swear, I will have teaching stories for the rest of my life because every day brings with it new zaniness.

I watched a co-worker lure multiple co-workers to her cubicle to feed them dog hair peppered peanut butter and walnut cookies (yeah waay too many nuts) and off brand Halloween candy. Still trying to figure out what Twax and Dairy Way are. Twas a fun day...
Still waiting on that secondary Howard..please please pretty please 🙂

Hey DoctorDang or anyone else who can help. I was just wondering how approachable the faculty are at HU? I heard that some schools have professors who are not available very much at all to help out students. Thanks! Praying we all get in!

Sent in the secondary last monday (17th). I'm a little worried because my MCAT score is pretty low, but I have a year overseas volunteer work and very good post-bac grades...God willing I get an interview!

Hi Aamir89, the faculty at Howard are very approachable. They always are available after class for questions. They are also very good at replying to emails. You can also email and make an appointment to meet up to discuss.
They are very friendly 🙂

Do Howard students have to find and sign up for their own clinical rotations? I was told by someone recently that Howard doesnt have clinicals in place for students. Is that true?

Thats a weird thing for anyone to say. There is a hospital (HUH) literally a couple steps away from the medical school. When I worked at the Children's Hospital I saw ALOT of the HUCM students there doing their Peds rotations. So I would definately take that with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the answer DoctorDang! That is really good, I'm glad its like that at Howard. Hoping I hear about an interview soon! :luck:

On an unrelated note, did any of you guys go to Howard Homecoming? I heard lots of celebrities and people go and its a huge event.

That was my thought as well....how can HU have a hospital but students have to sign-up on their own. I'll ask about it when I visit

Anyone completed on 9/26 received an interview? 🙁

9/26 wasn't that long ago. hang in there! I think I was complete by August, so I would like to think they haven't skipped over my app...

Thank you for your response. Good luck to us all. The wait is killing me. I am very nervous. I know we all applicants feel the same way. I hope that god is listening to our prayers. :scared:

has anybody else noticed that there is a religious tone with the posts relating to getting into howard/getting interviews in comparison to other schools?

i'm not saying this is bad at all but are howard students more religious or does howard have some kind of religious history sort of like georgetown's jesuit principles?

just wondering... 🙂

nice to get a mail confirming your secondary and an interview invite! just got verified with my secondary too! but hoping to get an interview invite as well!

Hey, just wondering if how long ppl usually have to wait between them receiving your secondary as tracked by the postal office and them sending you a complete email? and then long after that do you usually hear back about interviews/rejects. Just wondering what kind of timeline I should expect. Thanks

Whatever helps people cope with this uber stressful situation, if you like it I love it. I personally pray about this whole thing daily. I dont say that on SDN because im gangster about mine 😀 lol.

As a former HU undergrad I can say that the student body is very spiritually grounded, we do have a chapel on campus, and a few churches pick up alot of students for Saturday and Sunday worship. But to say that religion is all up and through HU (meaning do people get the holy spirit walking across the yard), no that isn't the case. Howard has ALOT of African American, Caribbean and African students who are practicing Christians and I guess that attracts prospective students who have the same beliefs.

God always listens to prayers. and He does what is best for us. sometimes we may not think that what happens may be good, but God knows what is best for us. maybe something we may think is bad, can actually turn to to be good for us. hopefully we hear well.

It took me about three weeks to send my secondary and get a complete email from the school. I was wondering as well if there were any recent interview invites. I'm hoping we all get in someplace and hear well this year! 🙂

I don't think the school is in line with any particular faith. However, some cultures, especially those of African descent are very rooted in their faith and thus God has a significant presence in their life.

On that note.... I am thanking God everyday for the opportunity to even be considered for a seat in Medical School....I have several interviews and I know that I will be accepted to the place thats right for me.

God bless 🙂

Yes, it's definitely not true!

Pretty quiet on the II front 😴

I combed the thread and it looks like several interview invites were sent out on 9/9 and one on 10/20...Looks like it may be quiet until late November/early December based on that data (but I hope I'm wrong! 😉)
