Just to clarify, its about a 30 minute drive from DC to Baltimore (without traffic) and you can take the Marc or Amtrak but it isnt so close that you can live there and attend HUCM.

Traffic? In DC? Never! 😉

One of the interesting/bizarre things I found about DC is that they have intricate rules for how many lanes of the road you should be using at any particular point of the day...For instance, in the morning, there may be 3 lanes going North and 3 lanes going South. Then at 5pm, there are signs to indicate that 4 lanes should go North and 2 lanes should go South. I was afraid of causing an accident, but it turned out ok, lol. 🙂

O my Lord, Chicago weather?!? lol. that's one way to describe the seasons in Chicago.

I'm loving the vibe on this thread lately. Everyone is so strong and faithful, I pray all our prayers our answered.

On a different note, does anyone know what interview dates are currently being offered (someone who got an invite in the past few days would know). I've been complete since September, interviewed at another school, and got a higher mcat (in that order lol) but haven't heard anything :-( I like Howard a lot and hope they show me some love, God-willing.

Good luck everyone.

I'm sorry to do this Obeah, but I see your prayer for good weather and raise you a prayer and a dance for Snowpocalypse Part Dos.

I basically received paid vacation for two glorious weeks of no-school during the blizzard in '08-09...*happy sigh* Good times.

Agreed. This is one of my favorite threads, filled with awesome and kind people. 🙂

I am unsure too of how the interviews are working out. But it seems that the last person on this thread mentioned that she was able to get an interview towards the end of November. I pray too that all our prayers get answered, and we go to the school we want. *It would be nice if we all got accepted to Howard and were future classmates! 🙂

When the weather is nice, it sure is nice, but it is the Windy city!!! (it earns that nickname!)

Hoping we can get that interview soon. 🙁 ...

Oh trust I will show up to my HUCM interview in A suit with some uggs on, I would prefer not to...plus I had to work during the Snowgasm of 2010 Soccerwon, so I dont wanna deal with it.

And yes you guys are hella cool. Cmon HU show us some luuuuvvvv 😍😍

So... I'm pretty much giving up on Howard sending me a secondary. 🙁 It's been a month and I haven't heard back from the school; I called on Monday to check my status but the lady on the phone just said I should be receiving the application later that day, bc they were pretty behind on reviewing apps. It's Sunday and I haven't heard anything.

I was really looking forward to applying to this school too. 🙁

Patience...remember they only have three people working in the office. You will get it.

you will get that secondary Chezza Belle! 🙂 .. it does take time for them to process. it took some time for me to be marked complete. after that, it's the wait for an interview invite. i too am really looking forward to this school. with this process we need patience and alot of prayers.

How is everyone doing? Any news from Howard?

Chillin enjoying the FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC DC weather😍. No news from HU 🙁.
But with HU as with any other school, tis a marathon not a sprint.
How are you doing sweetness34?

No news here either, but I'm keeping busy by working on nine other secondaries. lol How are you?

Things are going well here. Our weather in Chicago is very well too this time in year. ( but we probably will be getting a blizzard maybe in a month or two! 😱) As for HU, same here no news. I just hope and pray we make this marathon and pass the finish line! 🙂

I was looking at last year's forum and its seems to be the same...I just tell myself to relax, enjoy life and save up for a new suit lol. It will work out the way it should.

true it will work out like it should be. and im gonna be saving money for a suit and a trip to DC.. 😀

Just got the secondary!!!
Doing the happy dance at my desk!! 😀

great school!

Interview invites are not based solely off of when your application was submitted and completed. They also take into consideration your MCAT score and GPA. for instance, If you had a 30 MCAT and 3.5 GPA and submitted you final application Nov 3rd but Guy B had a 27 MCAT and a 3.8 GPA submitted their application in Sept. There is still a chance that you may go first since your overall application is more competitive.

My numbers were VERY close to Guy B and I was offered an interview for Jan 11th and I completed my application on Oct 4th. But if you ask me, it doesnt matter when you interview, as long as the end results are that you are still accepted 🙂.... Good luck MDPhD

Hello I have a similar situation (guy B)! Have my complete email in Sep 21 but haven't got an interview invite! Hope I will be getting an interview invite from Howard soon and get accepted! Good luck to all those people like me and you :luck::luck::luck:

I received the complete email in the 20th of October. I sent in my secondary the first week of October. Praying we will get the interviews! 🙂 I really love this school and praying to be accepted here as well!

Also, we just had some brief snow in Chicago and it is starting to get cold! 🙂

OK I dont wanna be that guy ( or maybe I do cuz I have tomorrow off and I am bored) but are we defining competitive based on soley numbers here?
If so then alot of people wouldnt have a chance of getting in much less an interview.
Mayhap I was wrong...anyone have any insight on this?

this snow today wasn't that bad 😉 it was like a few sprinkles.... now if it was a blizzard 😱
Snow scares me...it has so many hidden disasters. Like dog turds, or ice, or human turds or urine of unknown origin. I dont like it one bit.

Can you tell I have fallen in snow before...hmm hmm😡

Not to be a debbie downer here, but I think so OBEAHDOCTOR. If you go back to page 10 of this thread, i think one of the medical students explained it perfectly. They interview those with higher MCAT scores first, then interview those with less competitive scores after the New Year. Also, that is exactly what one of the ladies in the office told me. But don't lose hope. It's not over until they stop interviewing in the spring!!!!!

I would think that competitive would be defined as an applicant as a whole. I think the committee probably looks at the entire applicant profile: their GPA, MCAT, activities, recommendations.. etc... With Howard, once you are complete, from the date of completion to I think the end of April, they send out interviews. Some people have gotten an interview within a week of being marked complete or even several months after being complete. Hopefully we are competitive and right now we just gotta pray for that interview and acceptance. theres tomorrow off and we also got thanksgiving coming soon 😀

last year that snow was something else... those blizzards were unbelievable. it was the first time i saw lake shore drive be filled with so much snow. and i heard the record amounts of snow in the east coast as well.

Oh honey I am in Guy 2 territory...I just hate generalizations...its all so boring. Plus I like this particular board because people are less inclined to do to ask that same old boring "What are you stats" question. Its just boring when people get interviews and hats the first thing that is asked, schools look at more than that and its nice to know that there is at least one board on here where that is recognized.

I like the way you think sweetness...you summed it up for me. Thats kind of a waste of their time.

Yes and I had to walk to work because my boss thought we should show some resilience...

I may have to disagree. I think at Howard they do look at the whole applicant and from that they decide who gets an interview. I know though many other schools really look at those high MCAT scores first for an interview. at Howard, I think they look at the applicant as a whole and then decide. one person from admissions that I spoke to mentioned that to me. they just said that an interview can possibly come the day you are marked complete to the end of April. just have to wait and see. and yes never lose hope!!!!!! Hope and pray and put your trust in Him. Hope we all hear good news from here! 🙂

I used to believe that. After going through this process, I know better. It comes down to numbers and statistics for many many med schools (with the exception of a few of course). This is an unfortunate adult reality. The irony is that all these adcom will eventually need lots of care when they are older and the vast majority of physicians helping them will be apathetic, uncaring, and just straight up arrogant. Adcom will eventually complain about a problem that they single-handedly created. It happens...

Also, imho competitive is a relative term.

I'm here, reading for entertainment as I watch my mailbox even tho Howard is clearly closed at 10pm.....wishful thinking that my interview invite is stuck somewhere in cyberspace

it seems though every school has different policies into what they regard to be competitive. some schools take geographic locations, others may look at GPA/MCAT, activitites.. etc.... i know some schools see if a student got a 35+ on their MCAT give that student an interview. I think Howard is different because they look at the whole applicant when deciding for the interview. Hopefully we hear well.

Best of luck you guys! If you don't mind me asking, what are y'alls stats? and are any of you URM?

It is a relative term and yes it is a problem with these cold and apathetic physicians. And I totally get that these adcoms dont want a bunch of dunderheads in their medical schools, BUT I think the fact that schools like Howard give people with promise who aren't gunners a chance is awesome. So when people make sweeping declarations like that (especially on this forum) it should be taken with a grain of salt. Because I guarantee you that a significant number of the people who are going to be in the class of 2016 dont fit into the 3.5 30 MCAT mold, and a majority of them will have so many unique experiences and missions that will show the adcoms and the committee that they are dedicated to HUCM's mission. So again, yeah its a numbers game but what makes this school unique is that it looks beyond the numbers and delves into the person and their potential and what they are really about. Plus I think that on some level information like that makes some people feel like they cant participate in the forum, and that to me is sad.
Damn I have reached my word quota for the day.
