Hey everyone, I just gave a call to HUMC. They mentioned that my application was under consideration and that if they send any updates they will email it. Ms. Walk was busy today and I didn't get a chance to speak with her. 🙁 Although, the great thing is that I think for a number of individuals that interviewed already may get some very good news. It's near the 15th of the month, and that's when HUMC sends out there acceptances. I hope you all hear those blessed words of an acceptance and pray for this servant of God when you hear those news. I hope to share my acceptance with you all one day soon! 🙂

Very excited.. Got an interview coming up on the 31st of January. Flying up to DC. I have never been. I'm staying with a relative in Ashburn VA, but could stay with a friend in Waldorf MD. I hear traffic in DC is horrendous so my question is does anyone have an idea what would be the quickest an safest route to get to Howard from these locations. I believe they are the same distances from Howard.

My option would be Waldorf, MD because there are several metro stops and Marc stations in the vicinity that will take you directly to DC such as the Largo station (blue line), Greenbelt station (yellow & green lines) and etc. Blue & Yellow metro lines do service Virgina, e.g. Alexandria, VA, but I'm uncertain of their location and/or distance from Ashburn, VA. But yeah, DO NOT DRIVE INTO DC FROM 6:00-10:00 AM!!! You are increasing your chances of being tardy for your interview if you drive into the city from Maryland or Virgina. Good Luck!👍🙂

The interview is really laid back. Howard genuinely wants to know who you are as a person and how you will fit in with the school. So just be yourself! Also, know your application and why you want to attend Howard. If there is anything on your application that isn't that great, be prepared to have an explanation (not an excuse) for it, and be confident. At this point, they are already sure they want you. You just have to hold your ground and show them the same! Good luck, you will be fine!

I interviewed at the end of November and heard back about a month later.

They send you an email saying that you could call in and find out your decision. They send you the official forms in the mail later. They received a lot of applicants this year so it's possible that they could be backed-up. Don't lose hope!

I got the email saying a decision was made and is out of committee. That was last Friday, they couldn't email me the decision until it is signed by the associate dean and mailed. I'm still waiting, so naturally, I'm checking my email non-stop during the day.

I know it must be hard waiting for that interview. I was in your shoes last year and the one great piece of advice that I was given was that HUCM interviews all the way up until the last week of April and those students still have a legitimate shot of being accepted. I hope that you guys get a chance for an interview (as well as Sweetness34) sometime in the near future.

Please remember, Its not when you interview that matters but HOW you interview and that you actually receive an interview. Sometimes medical school interviews seem to come as frequently as winning the lottery, but once you get that opportunity please make sure you are well prepared and punctual. This can go a long way towards your subsequent acceptance.

I'll end by saying good luck and God bless to each and everyone on here... as well as the lurkers that are frequent visitor but may not have found their niche to say anything yet 🙂

Best advice is to check out their class schedule on the HUCM site. It has everything mapped out for this year.

It should be one of the tabs under 'current students'. Looks like they begin with biochemistry/histo, and afterwards they tackle the body systematically.

We work on a system-based learning curriculum so we dont have a bunch of classes at once... more like we cover an entire section of the body at one time and then move on to the next section.

The first two blocks are very condensed with the general material such as Microbiology, biochem, nutrition, genetics, immunology, molecular bio, molecules and cells, etc and after that your last three blocks are system based. Block #3 (arms and legs --> the embryo, blood supply, innervation, anatomy, physiology, pathology, bone structure), Block 4 (Neurology), Block 5 (GI, Respiratory, cardiology, integument, urinary system, etc) and you also have a cadaver that you are responsible for. Its a lot of material to cover in the last 3 blocks, but the system is set up for you to really retain the information and that's a great thing. Also, you have active learning sessions throughout the first year and a course on properly preparing you to deal with patients and be a great physicians. You're going to love the instant patient interaction during your 2nd block. It makes this whole process of becoming a physician seem real and no longer a dream 🙂 ... or at least that was my perspective
