As for the rest of us, I really hope that in the end, we all become blessed medical students at HUMC this summer. I hope that the worries that we have now will be replaced with much joy really soon. By being on this thread it has helped alot and I hope that the amount of love and support we have showed each other on this thread will be continual more love and support as medical students at HUMC. Yea Kaji, I actually had several dreams of being a doctor and getting accepted. It was truly the sweetest and best feeling, and I hope that the dream becomes a reality very soon. I really look forward to it with all my heart. 🙂

Just an update for those still in the waiting pool...I called up Howard today and they said my file was still with committee and had been re-reviewed this past Monday. Not fantastic news, but its reassuring to confirm that my app is still being looked at by someone. 🙂

I hope that after they re-reviewed your file this past Monday, that the next thing is an email from HUMC saying, please decide what your interview choices will be. 🙂

I was given similar news recently and am very eager to hear from them This is easily my top choice, I'm so anxious to get an II!

Btw, has anyone spoken to Ms. Walk on the phone yet? I'm so nervous to talk to her lol every time I call I speak to one of the other admissions staff (who are so kind!!!).

I called last week, and also spoke with one of the admissions staff members and they are wonderful people. Ms. Walk was busy that day. I did speak with Ms. Walk last month and she is a nice lady! I look forward to getting news from here soon. HUMC is the best school!! !😍

we have test biweekly on Mondays (which is great since you have the weekend to make any last minute adjustments before the exam). At the beginning of the year you have one exam every other Monday, but when you reach Block 4, you will have 3 exams every other monday

I'm doing well sister Paaakwasi. waiting is tough, but it shows that we are strong and hoping the good news come soon. there were some great football games on today!! This thread is awesome and I think about the school everyday. it's really nice to talk to everyone on here and hope we all will be future classmates. I hope all is well with you too, sister Paaakwasi!! 🙂

I think i am probably the only one who does not watch American Football. I don't understand the game and I have made no effort to either hahaha. Sports are just not my thing.🙂

Paakwasi I JUST started understanding American football from my new fella. Now I am watching and talking trash like I know what's really going on...but my two newly adopted teams won last Sunday. SUCK IT Ravens!!!!!!!!!!! lol and I heart Tom Brady (he's so fiiiiine) lol. And I like that Cruz fella from the Giants...he plays like he wants it.

I dont have cable ( I know blasphemy but i refuse to give comcast or xfinity or whatever they are calling themselves now any of my hard earned money)...I used to like Celebrity Ghost Stories until I realized that most of those washed up celebs were just making stuff up. My third and final obsession is The Sopranos...I love love looooooooove that show.

Obeah, how is it that you able to catch hoarders and intervention? aren't those shows on a cable channel? Anyways, my new favorite show is REVENGE!!!! If you haven't seen it, i recommend it. You will fall in love with that show🙂. Lot's of good stuff. I feel ya on the cable though Obeah, but it's just so boring without it .

That was us BEFORE Verizon wooed us and offered a FIOS bundle in our area for like sixty-five dollars/mo. (hence, we just got cable like a year and a half ago).

Did you address it elsewhere in your secondary or primary application (e.g. personal statement, essays, etc)? Would you bring it up if you already addressed it or would that be redundant?

We all make mistakes. I think it's how people handle those mistakes and learn from, going forward, that sets them apart from one another. I find it hard to explain mistakes/weaknesses without sounding like I'm making excuses for myself, sometimes.

My biggest weakness was my MCAT score ( and I took it more than once). I didn't address it in my application directly, although I did mention that I was going through a lot during one year. If you have a hardship that you experienced that is genuine, I would explain, although it is not completely necessary. They ended up asking me about it again during the interview anyway so it really didn't make a difference.

I was complete similarly around the same time. Keep your hopes up and pray. May good things come soon! Our goal is getting accepted and being at HUMC this summer! It's a beautiful school! 🙂

That's my weakness as well, but I did do pretty well on the sciences. I hope they focus more at my sincere desire to make a difference in the communities especially in the inner city. 🙂

I've been waiting since October! I don't think we should be "worried" because they have not rejected us. They interview through March-April so there's still hope. I hope.

Hey runalb. Many of us haven't heard back yet and I know what it feels like. We gotta be strong and be firm. We have to put our trust in Him and pray. Prayers are powerful and helps the soul. Howard pretty much will email you for an interview invite. Right now we just have to wait and pray. I hope the good news comes for us soon! 🙂

Had a bit of advice.... if you are complete, it is great to contact admissions with UPDATES, LOIs, and OCCASIONAL (i mean maybe once in 3 weeks or something) e-mails/calls checking up on your status. I would also HIGHLY recommend a tour (tours are offered on the 1st Friday of each month). PLEASE (!!) try not to bombard the admissions office with tons of e-mails/calls... it may be a bit of a turn off... I know you guys are excited and very eager to hear back but I would hate all this excitement to be marked against you. BE PATIENT, they do review ALL your files and when you do call/check in once in a while, they will look you up... But please avoid constant calls/e-mails for your own good.

Besides that, be confident in your abilities and application and take any advice offered to you guys from admissions if you have talked to them. I wish you guys all the best and would love to see you all here next year!!!! Best of luck to you all! As always I'm here for any questions or concerns.

Was hoping I could get some insight into some of Howard's programs that get students patient exposure and any that allow them to work directly with underserved or travel to sights in need of physicians etc.. Im excited and nervous about this upcoming interview so close to the end of the cycle, I would love any information or even a place to look on the web-site. I am preparing by looking over my entire app and practicing some interview questions.

Hey there EvryDy! congrats on your interview. Answers to your questions:

1. We get patient exposure during our first semester during our preceptorship program- we are basically linked to a physician one on one and we are required to do a certain number of histories and vitals etc.-- we do have standardized patients while doing our basic sciences and learn basic examination methods throughout the entire year.

2. Howard University Hospital is in an underserved area so you will constantly be working with a diverse and dynamic population

3. For your interview, know your application inside out, show your desire for the school, be honest etc. Most of all Be Yourself, they called you for an interview because they saw something they liked so be confident in that.
