How's everybody doing? 🙂

Hanging in there. Hoping, praying, and dreaming for an acceptance from HUCM. In anticipation of a medical education taking over much of the next four years of my life, I'm trying to spend as much time with my family members as possible. Fun times, mostly. When I spend time with them, it takes my mind off everything else and allows me to relax. I'm very grateful to have them.

I should also mention how grateful I am to have my online HUCM family! It's been great being part of this support network and witnessing each others progression from an applicant to a physician, hopefully and God-willing!

I imagine (more like know lol) that a similar support system exists amongst students at HUCM. That is one of my main reasons for wanting to attend here. I feel like I'm applying for acceptance to the Howard legacy and family, just as much as the medical school and that is invaluable to me.

Good luck to everyone waiting. Keep is HUCMers in your prayers!

Hi everyone:hello:

All is well here🙂 Ditto to MWB....wishing...and hoping....and praying to hear something from HUCM!! But I do believe that the Lord has a plan for all of us so let's just wait and see what He is up to👍 But I too am very glad that I decided to post on the SDN boards. You all are truly an inspiration and a Godsend:claps: Cheers to still giving praise reports throughout this whole ordeal because we know He hasn't brought us this far to leave us!

I think that is the official group! The members in the group are existing students. One of them conducted my tour at the interview!

Next month, meaning May? When did you interview?

Next month, meaning May? When did you interview?
Yea it seems so. I interviewed at the end of Feb. This is what it said.

"We will email you when the decision letter has signed signed by the Associate Dean and mailed (on or around the 15th of the next month). We are not able tell you the decision before the letter is signed."

Hello Everyone! - so I've been reading this thread for quite some time but never posted, but I just have to say that everyone has been so encouraging and reading everyone's experiences has really helped me to keep high spirits.

I was just wondering if anyone who interviewed in the middle of February has heard anything yet? Whether that be acceptances, waitlisted, etc. I know they have a lot of applications to get through but I thought I would have heard something after nearly 6 weeks?

HEADS UP ON THE FACEBOOK PAGE:

Although we have the page set up, we are not permitted to add anyone to it until we get the official list from Ms Walk as to which students have been accepted. This will be happening within the next week or so and then we will begin adding you guys. I'll come back on here and let you guys know exactly when that date is once I get final confirmation.

I interviewed near the middle of March. Dear Lord, I hope and pray something good comes! 🙂

Good luck Sweetness!

Hey Patience, Sometimes night hearing things in a short period of time after an interview is a good thing. This normally means that they are still reviewing your total package and they are still giving you consideration. So actually, longer is better (from that stand point). Especially since every application is not cut and dry. So just give them a little more time bcuz, in the end, it does not matter how long they take, as long as the end result is ACCEPTED 🙂

Thanks for that clarification, Kaji. I hope these next two weeks (days leading up to 4/15) hold some good news for us HUCM hopefuls. Good luck everyone and don't lose hope!

I don't want to bring down what has been a very supportive and positive thread but I should advise you to take that date with a grain of salt. I was given the same letter for march 1st and still have yet to receive a decision. I'm starting to think its not good news, but still wondering why its taking so long. 🙁

Hey everyone...Its been a while since I posted on this thread. I know how difficult this whole medical school process is for everyone. I received a rejection letter from Howard about two weeks ago. That being said, I still have faith that God has a plan. To all of you who are still waiting for a response continue to keep the faith. God has the power to do the impossible. What he ordains he will maintain. I just wanted to drop a word of encouragement into your spirits. Hope you are blessed:

Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservations. --Elton Trueblood
What does it mean to have faith? At some point in your life, I am sure someone has told you to "have faith." But what exactly does that mean? How can you possibly believe when you have no guarantee that what you do believe will actually come true? I too, have asked myself that question countless times. But this time I decided to do something about it. During my quest of trying to discover the meaning of faith, God revealed many things to me. First, and foremost he revealed to me what faith is not. Friends and family, faith is not religion. A lot of people will tell you to have "faith." But what they truly mean is to hide behind religious ideas, doctrines, and traditions that have been passed down from past generations. Faith is not a mental assent. It is not convincing your mind "yes, this is true." Many people who say that they are Christians believe mentally that the Bible is the Word of God but faith does not compel them to change their way of living. They do not have faith that can save (James 2:14). James tells us in James 2:19 that even demons have that type of faith. They know and believe that God exists and they tremble in terror. But they do not have that heartfelt love for God. Faith is not a medium in which you manipulate God. We cannot use the power of faith in order to make God do what we want. Faith is not a way to make God our servant. Faith is neither hope nor a positive desire. Now don't get me wrong, hope is good and it relates to the future. Faith on the other hand focuses on NOW. A lot of us have hope and are anxiously waiting for results, but we lack the perfect peace and assurance which comes with having a present faith.
So enough talk about what faith is not and let us turn our focus on what faith is…
Generally speaking, having faith means believing in something or someone; to fully trust and be so confident that you base your actions on what you believe. To have faith is to be fully convinced of the truthfulness and reliability of that someone/something. Faith in God then means to surrender your whole soul to Him as Savior and Lord of your life. In Hebrews 4:11 we see that faith is being sure of what we hope for and being certain in what we do not see. Faith is a spiritual substance. When you have this spiritual substance in you, it communicates to you a certain inner knowing that the thing you are hoping for is actually established even before you see any concrete evidence. Faith is a spiritual force. It is a response to God's word which moves the mighty hand of God to move. In Mark 11:23 Jesus says "Assuredly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘be removed and cast into the sea and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done will have whatever he says.'" Friends and family faith has the power to move any mountain in your life.
Through faith, know that you have the answer to your prayer before anything changes in the natural order. In Mark 11:24 Jesus tells us that we can pray for anything and if we just believe, It will be ours. God wants you to believe that he has immediately sent a response for your prayer as soon as your prayer is sent. Faith is the confirmation slip in your heart that your response from God is on its way.
I leave you with this family: whatever situation you are facing in your life, have faith that God has the power to change your situation. The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God. You may not feel like things will change, believe Him anyway. You may not know how to believe, believe anyway. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above anything you think he can do. He has the power to disprove your disbelief. Start by giving him the chance to do so.

Prayer of the day: Dear heavenly father, sometimes I just don't know how to believe in you. I want to have faith but my situations force me to believe otherwise. Lord, give me a faith that surpasses my understanding. Disprove my unbelief. I may not have the strength to believe that my circumstances will change but I will trust you anyway. Help me to walk in your goodness daily, trusting you beyond what my eyes can see and believing what my heart already knows will come to pass. In Jesus' name, AMEN
Power Verses:
Galatians 5:5-But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us.
Luke 17:6-The Lord answered "if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, may you be uprooted and thrown into the sea, and it would obey you!

Hey Vessel of honor.. Faith in God is always important and knowing that He has a plan for all of us. Def will keep the faith always and indeed with God, anything is possible. Hope you are blessed as well bro! 🙂

Keep the hope strong and def keep on praying. I hope and pray that we hear good news in the coming days. Let's pray and hope for that acceptance.. Pray for ourselves and each other, and hopefully let us share some good news soon. 🙂

I'm growing incredibly eager for my decision as the days pass. I've given this process a lot of thought as I anxiously wait. As many of you will agree, I found that I don't want to settle for anything other than HUCM's Class of 2016. I can confidently say that I cannot imagine getting the same medical education experience at any other school. The people I've met there and my friends who are currently attending will undoubtedly make me a better physician for the underserved. Without giving details, I feel like I would be a lot happier at Howard. In addition, my family would be at ease if I was in DC since I have family nearby and won't be too far.

You know what sucks the most? Thinking about an HUCM education makes me want to go there even more, but I currently have no idea if that dream will ever come true! I don't know if this is some psychological phenomena lol. I keep finding more and more reasons Howard would work well for my family and I...making me even more eager for my decision. IT'S A VICIOUS CYCLE!

On a completely different note, does anyone know of free financial literacy programs for NYC residents? I've been browsing the gov't website and all to see if I can find something. This summer, I hope on setting up some financial literacy seminars in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to help fellow NYers improve their financial situation. Potential venues include public schools, churches, and community centers. Has anyone heard of something like this being done either in NYC or other cities?

Currently, I work closely with these communities (in a different capacity), and sense a strong need for these seminars/classes. A lot of issues stem from poorly managed finances. Although families can have one or more people with a job, working hard, and bringing in a legitimate income, they are still struggling to make ends meet and suffering its consequences. I witness this every day. That is why I hope I can at least start a grassroots, no-name movement that can help these communities. If successful, then the program can definitely be handed to those interested in helping and grown from there.

Any thoughts or feedback? Volunteers?

*Praying for that HUCM acceptance* :xf:

Hey if you find any info on that I would definitely like to collaborate with you and probably attend some seminars. I live in NYC too and I do think there is a desperate need for individuals to learn to manage their finances better especially in our underserved communities. I will do my homework too...Let me know

I simply cannot tell you all how helpful and uplifting this forum has been during this process. I also cannot tell you how long it took me to figure out how to register and post a reply! I interviewed on 2/15 and certainly expected to hear SOMETHING around 3/15. I am still anxiously and almost religiously checking my email every 5 minutes (honestly) and my mail box everyday hoping for SOMETHING! Right now, I am on two wait lists, but Howard is my first choice. I just wanted to thank everyone for being so candid in their experiences, inspirational words, and advice. I see that if I am admitted to Howard, I will certainly be among GREAT COMPANY! Let's stay strong, prayerful and faithful you guys.

Awesome, I really hope I can get the ball rolling on this before starting med school in the fall. I want to at least spread awareness about it via social media and see if I can engage an audience that way, if not more than that. I sincerely believe that there are people out there with good hearts an willing to do good, so long as they're informed of the problems and directed where the allocate their attention and energy.

I know the feeling bro, and I really hope and pray that we get that acceptance to Howard. I love this school and this is where I want to be. It's my top choice and the experience at this school is one of a kind!! 😍

I want to do something good for the communities as well. I have some ideas too and once we get accepted, with the grace of God, I hope to share some great ideas and work on them. More about that soon! 🙂 God willing, I hope that we get that HUCM acceptance. Keep on praying and hoping. May the coming days bring us good news. 🙂

I TOTALLY know what you mean about religiously checking your email! I had a dream last night that I saw Ms. Walk; this waiting thing is driving me crazy! I just need to know. That letter saying a decision has been made, but they can't let you know is a tease. It's like, at this point, either I'm in or I'm out, but it's a secret. Please ease my mind, and send me that email saying that I can call and find out my status!!!

On a more serious note, I praise God that I got this far, I see his finger-prints all over my pursuit this year! I now know that the reason I did not get accepted last cycle, was that God wanted me to learn to trust him, even when things don't go the way I planned! I now trust his plan for my life, and feel better prepared to start medical school!

HUCM, I'm ready, I'm ready!!!! 😉
