I called today and asked about the status, looks like I am on hold, No idea what that means.

It means that they want to compare you to the rest of the applicant pool before extending an interview. This is not a death sentence. It might not be ideal, but it isn't the end of the world. Stay positive and good luck!

quick question, is loyola rolling admissions?

I feel like an idiot, I just finalized my secondary app this afternoon. I did it piecewise, filling out 7-12, basically all the non-essay questions before tackling the essays. Finished the essays this afternoon, and forgot to sign and date on the last page. Super. wonder if that will do anything to me...I emailed admissions but haven't heard anything back yet. :scared:

btw my secondary came out like a month after amcas submitted my info, and I submitted it as soon as amcas opened, so they sent my info on june 17th.
Hardest secondary I've had so far, so glad its done.

you were able to submit without a signature? now that's what you call a system breakdown. Loyola should've designed it like other ones so that if not everything is complete, you can't submit. but honestly, i don't think it matters that much. they'll access it and fix it once you call them.

I had a weird problem in Albany, where they only downloaded my additional letters (from research and doctors, not school committee one). I asked them what happened, and the lady said that I should've entered either or, and since I entered both committee letter and additional letters, they processed the additional ones only without downloading my committee letter. I told her that i wanted the committee letter then, and voila, she fixed it. So no worries, they fix it for you eventually 🙂

i'm sitting on this and another secondary which is even harder... gotta start this one first though!

This actually happened to me also. I never got a chance to get to the signature page, though I saw that it exists when reviewing the submitted app. My app still went complete and is under review, presumably they will contact us if it's an issue.

Same thing happened to me. I just never saw the signature part and noticed a spot there for it after i submitted it. My is under review as well.

oh, well maybe there never was a place to sign it. maybe that's some remnant of a time when you had to mail in applications. :xf:

I also was not able to access a signature page. It seems like this is happening to virtually everyone...

they didn't respond to my email. either they're swamped or its not a problem.

i purchased the secondary, time to start writing!

LET'S DO THIS!

They sent out a few interview invites by this time last year so hopefully they will get it rolling pretty soon here!

I know. However, I called them today and the guy on the phone said they will be sending out interview invites in the "next couple of weeks" 🙁

If you look at last year you will see that the secondary apps went out a couple of weeks later this year from last. It stands to reason that everything is shifted a couple of weeks.

Question: for the prompt: Describe a valuable experience in your personal development? This might be a decision you have made, an achievement of which you are particularly proud of, or a person who has influenced your life.

I was wondering if it would be appropriate if I wrote about my experience living in a third world country for 4 years during high school. Or should I write about something more like.. an extracurricular activity i did?

I'm no adcom, but I would go with the high school experience.

Quick questions:
1. Does Loyola wait until your amcas app has been verified to a send secondary app?

2. They only send to selected students, right?

And it been over 20 days and I still haven't been verified. AMCAS has my LORS and transcript. 🙁

they didn't respond to my email. either they're swamped or its not a problem.

Got a reply today:

"do not worry about the signature. If you are granted an interview, we will ask for your signature at that time. Thank you."

for question 1, I wrote about a summer course I took in the rocky mountains. I don't think it really matters, experience can mean like, any event or activity that influenced you.

Yeah, I got that email today too. I really like the "if you get an interview". if. yay. I've tried to stop reading too much into statuses.

Just submitted the secondary. :xf: Added the school about a week ago, received the secondary on Thursday. Did not sign it either 😳

1. Yes-->It can take over a month for admissions to get your stuff, look at it and send you a secondary.

2. Yes

Yes, they do. But I know a lot of people from my cycle on SDN were scared that they wouldn't get in if they interviewed in March or some time really late in the season, but there were people who got in. And also, I know people who interviewed in August and September who were waitlisted. So, don't worry about rushing to get the secondary done. Do the best you can!:luck:

Hey guys I had a question. I know we're supposed to use a maximum of 25 single-spaced lines and that to show paragraphs you must double-space. The problem I have is in counting lines. I have one of the questions done. It has two paragraphs. Therefore it has ONE line with nothing written on it. When I count that empty line my essay turns out to be 26 lines total. Obviously when I don't count that line my essay is exactly 25 lines, making the cut-off. So what should I do? Count the empty line or not?

Thanks for your help! Good luck applying this year 🙂

I think it said 25 lines of text so I didn't count the spaces between paragraphs as being lines. I had a couple essays that would end up being 27 lines if I did count them. Also, the initial email said 25-30 lines so I'm pretty sure you will be fine 👍

I'm pretty sure people are way overthinking this 20 lines of text thing...I highly doubt adcoms will be sitting there counting.

I was complete in mid june. Solid stats: 36MCAT 3.8 GPA,
DIV 1 Athlete, still no secondary... I don't think I wrote a horrible personal statement.
any ideas guys?

I got a question. Do the admission committee expect essays to be like 25 lines per essay? writing like 6 pages for secondary is pretty intensely insane and I really doubt I'd have that much content to talk about. Does anybody have anecdoctal experience of people who maybe spend less than half that amount of essay writing and still do fine?

For whatever it's worth, sometime between this morning and 2 days ago my status changed from the "under review" status to the "Your file has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in mid-April. If you are granted an interview, you will be contacted by phone and/or e-mail" status. Looks like this is the "on hold" status from what someone else said? I was complete 7/21.

Out-of-state applicant here. Quick question:

I submitted my AMCAS about 6 weeks ago to become verified and had an MCAT score of 27 at the time. I got my new score of a 33 this Tuesday and my AMCAS was verified on Wednesday. When I first submitted my AMCAS, I had already applied to Loyola. Should I email them to inform them of my MCAT upgrade for screening purposes? I ask because I applied to 8 more schools on Friday morning and already received a lot of secondaries back from them.

Thanks for all the help! Good luck for this cycle everyone! Hopefully a rural Kentucky boy can make his way to the city to join you all!

I would try to write as much as you can, but quality is much better than quantity. The admissions committee has a LOT of essays to read so if you fluff your essays up with crap then they are not going to like that. I believe that they would rather read 15-20 lines of meaningful text than a full 25 lines of nothing.

I was an out of state applicant as well. I did not have to notify them of my second score because I noted on my AMCAS that I was retaking and the date. I remember that I did not receive my secondary until after I received my second score. It wouldn't hurt to contact them so that they can be looking for your next scores (all schools love to be wanted), but if you noted it on your AMCAS then they know and will probably wait to send you a secondary until after they receive your new score.

For "If you will not be enrolled as a full-time student during the current academic year, please explain what you will be doing prior to your planned matriculation into medical school?" do you leave it blank if we are enrolling as a full-time student?

Yes, that question is specifically designed for gap year students

Alright, I got the secondary email today! I guess my previous question didn't matter!

got an interview invite today via phone call and then email (WOOHOO!) For those of you worried about the 20 line limit, my responses ended up being almost 30 lines in the website format. I had a lot to say for each question as Loyola is really well-aligned with my values, so I think if it's quality then it doesn't matter.

Looks like I'm on hold 🙁
