Anybody know if it helps to write a letter of interest to this school if you've been placed on a pre-interview hold?

What exactly does this mean....?

Like... you're on "hold" because they don't have some portion of your application?

Just to say it once and for all: The MSUCHM website states that no updates of any kind will be considered

However, it seems as though if you have deadline issues (and NOT content updates), they will take that into consideration.

"pre-interview hold" means they have reviewed the complete application, but have not decided on whether or not to extend an interview. They usually do this to compare the applicant to other applicants later in the cycle.
 
For those of us that interviewed early on in the season...

I just spoke with the admissions office. The lady wasn't too sure, but she said that AMCAS rules dictate that they cannot give out offers of admission before Oct. 15th.

But because that's a Saturday, they will most likely (90% sure) let us know via e-mail, status update on CHM AIS, or a phone call on the 17th of October.

Bummer. Hopefully they'll do some sort of automatic update on your status pages at 12:01am on Saturday instead. 😛

CHM takes some time to get through all of the apps, last year I was complete in early Aug and didn't hear anything until Feb. I know, trust me, it's hard to wait but you need to be patient with CHM. They do not accept correspondence pre-interview but will accept updates, etc post interview. Hang in there, Oct 15th hasn't even hit yet.
Also, CHM will respect all AMCAS guidelines and I know personally the staff that update the AIS status pages. If you are accepted you will get a call before your status is updated.
So don't count on updates until the first business day after the 15th.
Enjoy the weekend, after completing exam cycle two (goodbye head and neck!) I know we will!

haha they said that people who are getting good news will usually get calls the day of the decision...and people who aren't will usually get an email the next day.

so hopefully you get a call on the 17th 🙂

interview was good--a little strange because they're so short and structured, but good nonetheless
 
I have an interview for MSU CHM on November 10th at the Grand Rapids campus. I'm so excited! 🙂

First interview invite but I submitted all my secondaries within the last 3 weeks, so I'm not too worried.

If I see a 517 area code... I'm going to start losing it.

No one calls me from Lansing... so it's GOTTA be good news right?

If your interviewers have drastically different things to say about you, they will invite you for a third interview, ha. The Asst. Dean spent like 15 minutes talking to our interview group about it.

If I get a call from 517, I'm not going to answer so that it goes to my voicemail and I have it immortalized FOREVER!! 😀 Haha, that's what I'm planning right now, but I know I'm probably going to get super excited and answer anyways.

Heyyyy that's a really good idea!!! But I could care less about immortalizing it.
I'll get the formal letter... I'm gonna ANSWER IT.

Just so everyone is on the same page--at my interview yesterday Mr. Ulrich said that at the upcoming AdCom meeting, they will be reviewing applicants who interviewed in recent weeks. My interview group will be reviewed at the following one (and they meet every other week). SO, some of you who interviewed in the past week or two (three?) may not get any news at all next week, unfortunately...

I'm glad it went well! This weekend was the first time in the last 2 months that I studied less than 20 hours. It was a much needed break. Now I'm ready to go again!

Despite knowing none of you personally, I sincerely hope everyone on this thread waiting to hear from MSUCHM is accepted. I can't wait to interview here in December, and hope we end up classmates so I can buy you all a beer next year. Best of luck, really.

Never did develop a taste for ABC. Probably because my place in Ann Arbor was about 100 ft from the Beer Depot and I could get all the Bells I wanted. Funny, now I'm in Atlanta and its everywhere down here, too. Oh, and sorry for turning this into a Michigan beer thread. That was not my intention 😀
 
I can't wait for my interview on Thursday! Since I go to school in TX, my parents suggested I might as well stay the weekend. I just got off of fall break. It's like having fall break again, only with makeup work involved... Hope I remember what it means to feel "cold" haha. Best of luck to everyone tomorrow!
