I tried to look on their website to see if I could find out when we needed to show up on interview day. It just says the welcoming starts at 10. For those of you who have already interviewed, about how much in advance would you say we should arrive? Was there any trouble finding parking spots?

It sort of depends on which campus you're interviewing at, as well as if you're familiar with the area. You shouldn't have trouble finding a parking spot at either place. In EL, they will validate your parking, and there are tons of spots. In GR, you should be able to find a spot in the Secchia center's parking levels.

Either way, I would recommend planning on getting there a half hour early or so, just in case you run into some sort of traffic or other snag. If you get there with the whole half hour, you can just take a walk around and relax before heading inside. If you're interviewing in EL, your interview day (but not necessarily your actual interview; they split the group up and offer shuttles to other buildings for many of the interviews) will be in the Radiology building. There are some really ornate, peaceful gardens that wrap around the left and back of the building. I would highly recommend taking a walk through them, especially if you're feeling any kind of nerves.

A lot of people caution you against getting to your interview too early in fear of setting off an intervieweer's pet peeve. With the interview day itself, that wasn't the case, at least not with my experience. Given that you're not going in for your interview right off the bat (there is an introductory presentation first), getting there a bit early gives you time to chat with other interviewees and get comfortable before things start rolling. I went inside probably fifteen minutes early, and there were already thirteen interviewees (out of about 23 total) who had been seated and were busy eating snacks and talking.

Anyone who interviewed in GR have any input? I was more familiar with the GR campus before my actual interview day, but obviously I interviewed in EL.

Thanks for your response! I am interviewing in EL. So that helps a lot. Do we get our specific schedules right after the introduction?

I would recommend going over the instructions for how to get to the Secchia center re: arrival times for GR. I've yet to see any traffic that would give you any delay within that part of GR, but parking can be confusing. Remember to come off Michigan street on Bostwick, going north, where there's a big "3" for parking ramp 3. There have been a few applicants who got lost and were then very late. If you find yourself in this position, call admissions and ask for help. Once inside the building, it's easy to find the right room, and it wouldn't be abnormal to arrive as much as half an hour early, although a good rule of thumb is always 15 minutes early.

Individualized schedules are given out to you in a packet/folder of information as you check in. Interview times are dictated by interviewer availability, but mostly finish by early afternoon I believe.

It said on the website that there is no need to check in at the admissions office. Do we just go straight to the auditorium then?

Yes, exactly. They have your name tag and packet ready to go in the auditorium.

Sweet! Thanks so much. I can't wait till Thursday 😀 I haven't been up to Michigan since the summer. It's definitely going to be way different than TX....

Thank you so mucH!!!!

I did not expect to get the phone call. Dean Maurer was so nice on the phone.

I couldn't stop shaking AAAAAHHHHH

Is this your top choice? So happy for you - reminds me of how I couldn't stop shaking also when I found out yesterday that I was accepted at my top choice 😍

I don't know what my top choice is... hard to say.

Will wait and see how the rest of the applications pan out.

But let's just say... GO GREEN!

Congrats blu, good luck in your decision making process!

They called on the 18th? I thought the first day was the 19th?

You may want to read up a bit on here; they call acceptees the night before the decision date, after 6pm, then send out emails on the decision date to those that get rejected and waitlisted.

Dear CodeBlu,
Congrats!! You are everywhere on SDN, so I've told myself that by chance if I get into the same med school that you end up attending, I'll have to meet you. Kind of like meeting Harry Potter or something.

More than mildly amusing.

I think I may have made the decision sort of... 😉

By the way, no hard feelings about earlier right? I'm really not a gunner. I promise.

what day was your interview, CodeBlu?

Sept 21st!

 😍 This sort of made my day even better than it was already going. Didn't think that was possible. You just earned signature status!

I know, right? 🤣

Me too. SDN pick up the slack!!! :meanie:

so where is the your tentative choice going to take you for the next 4 years? do tell 😉

Blu- no hard feelings at all, I only want what is best for our college and the class of 2016. I am sure you will make a fine addition to which ever school you choose, you are obviously well qualified and a solid candidate to have been accepted so early in the cycle by multiple schools. My point was that here at MSU we are all in this together and we try very hard to help each other and foster a sense of teamwork - STEP I will do all of the separating later!

Good luck on your future medical career!

Somehow it feels like an end to a chapter in this thread... Almost as though the resolution to CodeBlu's quest for a CHM acceptance is the last sentence in the last paragraph of a book that I have been reading for weeks with avid interest. Now that it is over, I find myself asking, "Now what?"

Oh yeah - I and about 198 others (congrats Dots!) still have yet to get our paragraphs written, haha! Very happy for you both; now I just hope that you will get the chance to be happy for us! 😀

Come on, November 1st...

I think this will end up being the most asked question on SDN.

What? Where I'm going to end up?

Your paragraphs are coming so very soon!!! I'll be here to congratulate you guys!

I've only made 11 posts on SDN total (including this), but already I've made it to CodeBlu's signature. I feel quite legit. Contemplating updating my AMCAS with this achievement so I'll get into med school, too.

You should feel legit. The people in my sig are veterans usually.

That comment was priceless. Seriously. Best of luck!!! :luck:

I'm sure others feel the same about you. They just don't say it. LOL.

Thank you. My MSU interview is in a month actually. Nov 18. 😀

PM me if you have any questions. I'd be more than happy to help you out. 🙂

ps. I doubt others feel the same way. They probably don't like me all too much.

Well, we just finished our final interviews for our patient-centered interviewing course! Wahoo! It was a little stressful because they were filmed each time and we watched them later in groups. The critiques I received really helped though and I rocked my interview today!

That marks the end of our first 8 weeks. I can't believe how fast the time has flown. Biochem final exam on monday and anatomy upper limb exam on wednesday which means I'm getting off of sdn now to go study.

👍

When were you complete? Congrats on the interview

Based on everyone else, it looks like they call those who are accepted the night before (when they make the decision) and send out rejections/WLs via email on the days listed online.

Yeah, I just remembered that after I posted...Hoping to hear back then. He said the soonest was the 11/2 date assuming the committee gets their act together. But Dr. Maurer told our group that it would be more like 6 weeks. :xf:
