complete late august, OOS, still nothing ahhh

Never did develop a taste for ABC. Probably because my place in Ann Arbor was about 100 ft from the Beer Depot and I could get all the Bells I wanted. Funny, now I'm in Atlanta and its everywhere down here, too. Oh, and sorry for turning this into a Michigan beer thread. That was not my intention 😀

😛 I have no complaints

Hold up guys...don't they only release decisions on Wednesdays? I think the EDP people received their acceptances on a Wednesday, and all of the dates (except 10/15) listed on their website are Wednesdays. I've been counting down to 10/19 anyways...haha how sad would it be if they sent a bunch of rejections like tomorrow??

EDIT: I just realized that would actually not be funny at all. I laugh at the most inappropriate things...

It says 10/15 on the site... then it's 10/19...

The 10/15 kids got screwed... aka ME... first interview day.

Inappropriate laughter signifies nerves... lol, it'll be ok dippindots!

Spoke to admissions today, they did not know plans to call until after comm. meeting tomorrow pm - guess you never know, hang in there

Hey Codeblu- going to come to MSU if you get the call? Prefer us to Oakland??

Also, Wednesday notifications are usually emails of the rejection/alt list variety
hope for the Tuesday pm phone call from the asst dean

We'll just have to wait and see how the game unfolds... being jerked around for so many months...

Now it's my turn to have some fun.

COME ON TUESDAY!!!!

Any idea why they don't list Tuesdays as their decision days then? Also, any speculation on why Saturday 10/15 was listed as a decision day, or do they just use the exact same dates every year?

I'll probably be one of the later (10/19 or 11/2) dates anyway, as I only just interviewed on 10/6 in Lansing. Great experience, REALLY hope I get in; MSU is most definitely my top choice. After my interview day, I definitely prefer it over some of the more popular/bigger name/exclusive schools that I've applied to...

Oh the waiting game... Can't wait for that first acceptance...

10/15 is the first official day that schools can release decisions each year. Since it's the same every year, I figured that's why they had it listed. I didn't think that they would actually release decisions on a Saturday since every other decision day is a Wednesday. Also, I stalked threads from last cycle and they also waited until the Wednesday after 10/15 to release the first batch of acceptances. Not sure why Tuesdays aren't listed...I guess we'll figure it out tomorrow!

EDIT: Ok never mind...I remembered wrong. They released last year's first batch on 10/18, which was a Monday....which would be like today!!

Not really sure how getting an acceptance (if you do get one) 4 days after the earliest non EDP traffic date is being "jerked around"
not sure what kind of fun you plan on having...not sure those comments paint you in the best light?

Perhaps I misunderstand,

and this would reopen the age old debate of holding multiple acceptances (won't go there for everyone's sake)

I would hope he is just commenting on the laborious and exclusive process in general, which I'll admit often feels like being "jerked around."

Also, I know it would be fun for me to be able to pick my school...

CodeBlu, am I hearing you correctly, or are you "that guy?"

Stache,
just to clarify, dean maurer usually makes calls after the tuesday night comm meetings, he can call as late as 9pm in the east (when he is calling the west coast) from what I have heard....emails go out on the following wednesday am for rejects and waitlists....

not sure why those dates are the way they are, we have interviews at EL this week so I will ask about the dates on the website if I don't get up to the office sooner.

Stache,

I completely agree that the process is long, painful and full of mystery.Consider those that don't interview until after the turn of the year and have to languish on waitlists with amazing apps and stats......sometimes there is no rhyme or reason.....
however, if and when you get here you will learn two things,
FIRST is that you don't know anything about medicine, you thought you might but you don't
SECOND is that we are all equals on the first day of class and in this experience together so if you come to MSU CHM do us all a favor and

DON'T BE THAT GUY

and if I am mistaken, I apologize but THAT GUY is not so welcomed here...its not what we are about

You do misunderstand my comment. See below 🙂

There should not be a debate about holding multiple acceptances. That is the way the system is set up. It's been like that forever. I don't like it either, but if all schools had a set deadline to notify us by... that'd be even better.

Hence the dilemma with rolling admissions...

No, I'm not THAT guy  and I'm not talking specifically about MSU jerking me around. This entire process has taken a toll on me... TWICE. Long story. I won't get into it here.

One comment taken out of proportion. Can we just drop it now? Lol

I apologize for what you have misconstrued as gunner or cut throat.

dropped,
I know your pain, I applied twice with much different results, it was long and painful for me which will make it that much more sweet when you get to where you are going,
take a breathe, August is a long way away and you already know you are in....

I hope you all get the calls you are waiting on......

Thank you for the advice.

Huh, interesting! Thanks for the info. That's pretty considerate of him to make calls that late! He made it apparent in his presentation that he remembers how arduous this process is, and his willingness to do this proves it.

I have yet to hear anything about this school that makes me hesitant about going. Talk about a let-down if for some reason I don't get in...

Here's another question: do you find many multilingual individuals get accepted? Do you think it's more than at the average school?

well that is a great question, unfortunately I have no understanding of whether this is highly prized by the comm.
However, I can tell you that we have A LOT of bilingual students as well as others that can speak more than two languages in our two classes (2014 & 2015), I would say anecdotally that it carries substantial weight, at least here at CHM
speaking multiple languages is a feather in anyone's cap...
how it compares to other schools I cannot say either, I can tell you that we have a very heterogeneous class and I would think it would stack up to any other school on the grounds of diversity

Thanks Supisak, I appreciate the info.

Do you remember how long after your interview it took for you to get your acceptance?

Gah! I leave this thread for a few hours and s*** hits the fan. 😱

Codeblue, I think your wording came off a bit cocky, but I don't think that's how you meant it. Again, congrats on your first acceptance. Hopefully you will have multiple options to choose from and you will be able to pick a school that fits you and your aspirations the best.

Just for a point of comparison, for all you prospective spartans, I wasn't accepted until 6 months after my interview. You can wait another 24 hours. 😛

Wasn't how I intended it at all. But c'est la vie... it's the internetz. People interpret stuff differently

Here's to waiting...

Spartans 😍

To my post-interview compadres...

Is the interview open or closed file? 1 or 2 interviews?

Forgive my noob-ness, I would greatly appreciate an answer : )

I'm very excited about this school and have heard NOTHING but GOOD things about it. 😍

1. The interview is partially open file; they can see everything on your primary and secondary apps except your MCAT scores and GPA.

2. There are two interviews, one with a current student and one with a faculty member, each approx. 1/2 hour long.

There is a pretty great outline of your basic interview day info here.

Yikes, were you waitlisted? The Asst. Dean told us on my interview day that if we didn't hear back within 6-8 weeks that something had gone wrong and we should call the admissions office to find out what's going on.

If you weren't waitlisted, here's hoping that was just some serious fluke...

Hahaaa... yes I was placed on the alternate list. I suppose that makes my situation different from yours at this point. Let me just say, however, that the wait only made the moment I was accepted EVEN SWEETER.

And for those who say they have heard nothing but good things about CHM, that's mostly true. 😀 In all truthfulness though, every school has its weaknesses. If any student tells your their school is perfect I would call BS (or at least be wary). It would be dishonest to tell you CHM is perfect... but I love my school. It really is an amazing fit for me.

I was one of "THOSE GUYS" (ha, how many stereotypical applicants can we come up with?) last cycle---you know, the OOS kid on a waitlist waiting until two days before orientation to see if a school that said they wanted me would have room, waiting to move across the country at the drop of a hat. So, we shouldn't complain about waiting! There is always someone who will be in a worse situation--We're all lucky to have interviewed so early!!

Crossing every appendage in hopes that none of us are waitlisted!! Lots of luck to everyone!

Almost 6 o'clock… My phone just rang and I got all excited before I realized there's no way they're calling me today.

Good luck everyone!

Granted, our hopes of receiving a phone call tonight are based on what we've heard about past practices holding true for this year - that the adcom is meeting the day before the decision date, and that Dean Mauer calls the acceptees immediately after that meeting...

I definitely won't miss this I'm-waiting-anxiously-while-trying-to-pretend-to-everyone-in-my-life-that-I'm-calm-and-patient phase of the process...

Hey all... It is fun seeing all the excitement on here. I interview on 10/27. Any other 10/27ers out there want to split some costs with me? (ie car rental, hotel et cetera) I am interviewing in Grand Rapids and will stay overnight after the interview leaving to the airport GRR early on the 28th.

PM or reply if you are interested

I really hope that it holds true... either way at 9:00pm I'm going to be out with friends. So if Dr. Maurer calls later... I might be drinking beer and eating pizza.

Wish that could be me; I'm at work, and I'll be here till 9:30pm, after which time I'll be headed home to try to prepare for my Biochem midterm on Friday, or my Analyt quiz, one of the two...

Regardless, either activity would be infinitely more fun with a hot-off-the-press acceptance to tell my wife about...

I really hope you get to tell her about a hot-off-the-press acceptance sometime REALLLLLY soon 🙂

Until then... here watch this classic to make you laugh...

Ahhh thanks everyone!!

I've gotta ask - when was your interview date? Tried finding it in your previous posts, but figured this would be a bit faster...

Sept 20...I think it was the first interview day?

Good, that gives me somewhat of an idea of where they are in the process. Haven't quite gotten to the more recent interview days yet...
