I completed and submitted my secondary on 10/26, and have heard nothing from MSSM since. Does MSSM inform applicants that they are no longer evaluating their candidacy? Should I e-mail them to ask this question? Is anyone else still waiting for an interview?

Thanks in advance for any answers.
 
anyone find out when the committee meets? I would call them but I feel like they are getting sick of me cuz I called a lot...lol

Complete about 4 days after the sec became available (August?). 32/3.98... It appears this year that both Both NYU and MSSM are screening at 33-34 mcat score (based mdapps data) with a few exceptions... I think Sinai interviews into march though (nyu ends in jan)

I submitted my secondary in early September and I was just sent an interview invite about a week and a half ago. They are definitely still reviewing applications. Also, my stats aren't spectacular (no research, not a great GPA) so don't start worrying yet.

I am dreaming just to get an interview here... I had a horrible undergrad but excellent grad gpa... Two okay mcat scores... A some pretty decent graduate science research. Do you mind sharing a bit more of your background... I really would like to know whether they look beyond numbers :-/

Hmm.. my GPA and mcat score are in my mdapps. I volunteered in a pediatric office, had a leadership role in a campus organization, had a pretty unique job while in college (completely unrelated to anything medical/science-y) and mentored/tutored kids through an outreach program. I spent a long time making sure all essays in my primary and secondary applications were as well-written as they could be (including the writing quality of my activities section). I'm also very interested in medical humanities (art, literature, etc) and emphasized that in the mssm secondary.

Also, once I got a C+ in an organic chemistry class. My non-bcpm GPA was way higher than my bcpm GPA. So I guess you can get an interview even with grades like that. I'm not sure I would've been so lucky if I didn't do well on the mcat, though.

I can only speak from my own experience, but it definitely seems like Mt Sinai looked beyond my numbers. :luck:

Just had a look at your stats. Modesty should be your nickname🙂. 38O and 3.6 sure would attract attention anyday

Placed on the alternate list. Does anybody know how good is the movement from the waitlist? Congrats to the acceptances!! Sinai is an amazing school.

would a letter of intent early on be better, or later (closer to mid may). any opinions?
 
I think the earlier the better. But other input on this would be nice.

Can I ask when you all interviewed? I was there on the 3rd and they said we could expect to hear by mid January....was this the date!?

Interviewed November 10. I think this was the "mid January" date they quoted, though I have no idea how frequently they will send out acceptances from here on out.
 
Interviewed the second full week of December, received the acceptance today.
 
I interviewed on the 1st week of November

pretty sure I met you at BU about 10 days ago also if I remember correctly.

After reviewing my notes, I think this school is great. However, one caveat I noticed on interview day is that most of the students seemed to not like the first two years very much (too much lecture, two years, not fully integrated). Did anyone else get this impression?

Having been here for a year and a half I can tell you that there are definitely kids who don't like the curriculum (in fact they usually complain that there are too many small groups, not too much lecture) but that they are the vocal minority. While I know people wish things were different, no one wishes they were at a different school.

Still haven't heard anything, complete early in October. I tried signing in to the status page recently, but it's not letting me.... has anyone had a similar issue?
 
Congrats to all you guys who are accepted and genuinely excited to come specifically to Mount Sinai! Sinai has the reputation of being the happiest and most fun med school in NYC (well, I'm Biased 😛). we're also really awesome at all things medicine too of course. Doctors here also love the students more than what I've heard about other schools. E-mail any dept. chair, and you'll usually be able to shadow the next day. It's GREAT!

PM me if you have any questions, accepted or waitlisted. Accepted people, if you're from NYC, i'll be glad to meet you if you're by Sinai if you have any questions.
 
I was placed on the alternate list 🙁 Had 2 questions:

1) Can people on the alternate list still be accepted to PORTAL? My guess is no since PORTAL decisions come out in March and wait list decisions sometime in May.

2) Does anyone know how many people Sinai plans on putting on the alternate list this year? Seems like they've had as many as 400 in previous years and accepted anywhere from 40-100 of them.
 
1) I didnt want to do PORTAL, personally, didn't see the need for an MCR... But i do know students that got into it in the fall semester of the first year. Although, they didn't originally apply through the application process. After their first year was underway, they spoke to the advisor and got in. So don't lose hope for PORTAL! ...and again, personally, if you don't get in, even PORTAL students have admitted to me, its not going to affect your ability to do clinical research in the future.

2) I don't know how many people get in off the waitlist. But in general its been dwindling every year for all schools. Specifically for Mount Sinai, the retention rates have been rising I believe, as Sinai's reputation keeps moving up. That, and the fact that of the ~140 students per year, around 30 may come from the Humanities in Medicine program which leave less slots for traditional applicants.

Don't lose hope, the waitlist does move for Sinai. Keep sending letters of intent. They love students who really want to be specifically at Sinai, and they can tell whose faking and tells every schools that "THIS SCHOOL IS MY NUMBER ONE OMGGGG!!!111"

Is it appropriate to send unofficial transcripts to schools or must the official copy be sent? I really want to update Sinai but I'm worried by the time an official transcript arrives by mail, it will be too late, as its already probably too late haha. thoughts?
 
You can update without an official transcript.
 
You can either email or send them by snail mail. They accept both. I emailed and just printed my email and sent it by snail mail (in case). They verified within a couple of days that they received the email. Address it either to the dean or the admissions committee.

I sent an email twice and never received confirmation. I sent it to [email protected]. Should I call to confirm receipt of the update?

They're probably just backed up due to crunch time. I would call. The people at Sinai are nice so it should be no problem to verify the reception of the updates.
 
Does anyone know if they accept letters of intent/interest pre-interview? I tried finding this on the thread, but didn't see it so sorry if someone already asked. I'm getting impatient with all this waiting, but don't want to send one if it will harm my chances!

You never know, I interviewed last week and there were two people (out of nine) in the group that were given an interview invite the day before.

Don't give up hope, this school is so wonderful and worth the stress of waiting 😳
 
Does anyone know when their last interview day is?
