I am in a similar situation except complete since early october. I called admissions and they are actively rejecting people so if you haven't received an invite its likely because your file is in second review. I asked if they could elaborate more on this but they were unable to do so unfortunately.

I guess its good that we haven't been rejected at this point, but they do interview through March she said. So hang in there. 😕😕

Not sure if I believe this. No one has yet to post on here that they were rejected pre-interview.

Lol SDN sample size = small and full of people who would shy away from reporting a rejection anyways....Secondly, this was straight from the admissions office....make of it what you will

I just received the acceptance call from Dean Capers, so it has begun! Good luck to everyone.

Very true that not many are on SDN, but for other schools some people have posted rejections. While it is disappointing for that person, it's helpful for others who want to know. I saw that you received an interview invite later last cycle so it is still possible. Good Luck this round!

Got an acceptance call from dean capers at 7 central time! interviewd 11/16 and was deferred for a while, so theres still a lot of hope for applications that got deferred 🙂

So I got the call at some point tonight. I got a new phone and apparently you need to call someone before anyone can call you. Figured that out about 10 min ago and my phone received a bunch of texts and one voicemail.

A voicemail from Dr. Capers 🙂

Interviewed 1/11, GPA/sGPA: 3.92, 37S, OSU biomedical engineering graduate

Good luck to everyone! If you have any questions about osu/the surrounding area as far as housing etc, feel free to ask!

So I was researching financial aid, and I came across some confusing information:

http://medicine.osu.edu/students/financial_services/scholarships/pages/index.aspx

Here is the quote that concerns me:
"However, to be considered for our Financial Need scholarships, students will need to have filed their FAFSA form and be admitted all by February 15th."

Am I crazy, or does this seems extremely early...? I very well may be completely misreading this information, but it seems as though if you aren't accepted by the 15th, then you won't qualify for any scholarships...?

Where does this leave people, such as myself, who are sitting on the wait list?

Any insight would be appreciated.

I think I remember reading somewhere this was for returning students, though I am not sure. Anyways, try your best to turn in the FAFSA as early as possible regardless

So would you mind if I ask what your stats are?😀
I had a 38, 3.9gpa OOS, but I had average/subpar EC's and I would believe some pretty average LOR's. I was also not able to obtain a committee letter b/c I missed one of my schools internal deadlines, so that was a minor red flag as well.

Has anyone heard anything about scholarships? Their website says they begin making telephone calls about awards in December.

Hey, I received a full tuition scholarship in early January! Got a phone call and subsequent letter in the mail!

just got rejected pre-interview (email to check status), so they are now sending those out.

Status change. Looked and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not a rejection.

Congrats! Still waiting here, no news of status change. They must have a few Interview dates left, they said until the end of March.

Mine is for the end of this month so it looks like there is a whole month left of days.

Status still on "Submitted Forms". Looks like I won't be expecting any word from them apart from a rejection once they shortly send out the remainder of their invites (didn't get confirmed status until mid-November).

Sigh... I guess I'll have to settle for my second choice. 😀

A question for anyone who sent in an update letter and later received an interview invite:

Did you simply list your new grades, shadowing, and volunteer information? Or did you include a "why OSU" portion?

I want to send an update, but I am not sure if the committee wants to read anything more than a simple listing of new items.

I had both in the same letter
introduction
grades, shadowing, activities
why OSU combined with columbus and its importance

Both.

Hey folks, so I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to post. Still haven't received an II or rejection and I feel like I should send in a letter. The thing is, I really don't have anything to update, so would an letter of continued interest suffice? Explaining briefly why I would be a good fit for the school and that I'm still interested etc.

Thanks for the advice, letter has been sent. Here's hoping for the best :luck::xf:

Interview Invite this morning- frankly I was really shocked, I've been complete for over 6 months but still extremely excited 🙂

II also today. Does anyone think that this could possibly be for just a spot on the waitlist?

Last year when I interviewed late Dr. Capers said they never interview for the wait-list. If you are there on interview day its your job to either claim your seat or give it away -- straight from the boss haha

That's exactly true. They are always interviewing for a spot in the class - they wouldn't waste your time, and honestly we wouldn't waste ours. It may be a little more difficult now in the end of the interview season to get an acceptance, but it is certainly possible.

Generally speaking, what are our chance of getting in post-interview?

I only have OOS data from US News.

OOS applicants: 3162
OOS interviewed: 556
OOS accepted: 269

269/556 x 100 = 48.38%...it may be a little lower at the end of the interview season.

II this morning for 3/21. Can't make it, so I got rescheduled for 3/26. Would have preferred an earlier date, like this month lol, but this late in the cycle, I can only be excited! 2nd submitted back in Oct. OOS, but work at OSU currently.

How many dates remain?

II this morning as well, for 3/19. I've sent them an update or two and a letter of interest but not for the last 3-4 months so I can't say if that factored into the decision at all.

Very excited.

We NEVER interview for waitlist, even if we made a mistake you still get in! (see class of 2015), best of luck to those who interview!! It's usually about a 50-60% chance acceptance after you interview, be confident that we really like you if you get an invite!

Also, word of advice, don't say or do dumb things during the interview day even if you are with med students who are not on the admission committee. We know who's on the committee, and will let them to know not to accept those who act inappropriately even if outside of the interview! Good luck!
