Also, word of advice, don't say or do dumb things during the interview day even if you are with med students who are not on the admission committee. We know who's on the committee, and will let them to know not to accept those who act inappropriately even if outside of the interview! Good luck!

I always wonder what the line to walk is. Applicants try to seem professional and mature, but also fun and not uptight so students would actually want to be around them. Any examples of applicants acting inappropriately, or is it just the painfully obvious stuff that you should never say or do at an interview?

Well you'd be surprised at what "painfully obvious" means to different people haha, we don't care that much, but don't be full of yourselves and think you deserve to be there and we'd be stupid not to take you etc. Or just being disrespectful to med school property while touring (has happened), or being loud when there's a class going on. We really don't care if you are fun or not, we know everyone is trying to be professional and that they do have a fun side they are trying to suppress during interviews, but it's pretty easy to spot those who are trying to be professional but still are no way near professional. Just don't do something that will make us misread what you mean, unfortunately, first impressions are really the only impressions we get!

Is anyone else starting to lose hope for getting an interview invitation? I was trying to remain optimistic, but now I'm wondering if they are done extending interview invitations after today.

I feel you...been under review for more than 7 months. But until a rejection comes there is still a chance.

I am pretty sure theres one more interview day they haven't sent out invites for yet

Just got II. I am interested if anyone knows the ratio of OOS acceptances to OOS interviews. I know overall it is 51% (509/998), but that includes In-State people.

So would it be about 65% for in-staters and about 35% for out-of-staters?

(also, if you knew the ratio of In-state acceptances to In-state interviews I could figure out the OOS info)

I know since it is late in the interview season, it may be a little lower than this.

Thanks!

My reference book said 54% of OOS interviewers were accepted. -US news

Congrats! When is your interview day?

I found the II i today a bit insulting, seeing it is so late in the season. Thanks but no thanks.👎

How insulting that OSU would offer you a chance to be accepted so late in the season! I'm sure you deserved a much earlier interview.

It's The Ohio State. I'm glad that they took the time to invite me to interview at all. If you feel that way, don't bother going. That will help those of us that are humbled by the opportunity.

Seriously? You post this gem on a thread where people are eagerly hoping/waiting for an II from OSU?

This was an incredibly rude and insensitive comment. I would be so grateful for an II from OSU at any point in the season. OSUCOM is much better off without you.

My II is 3/21. I'm very excited, and would be very honored to be accepted to OSUCOM.

Sorry, I have no idea why that would be insulting. OSU is rather selective in terms of granting interviews, most people would be happy with even getting one.

They said they don't interview beyond March 26th. Some of you have gotten invites for March 21st. Lucky bastards, seems like my luck is running dry.

Did you guys pay the $25 deposit already? Deadline is May 15th. It says the deposit is to indicate intention of enrollment. Already accepted the offer online. Little vague about this.

Just got a monthly newsletter from OSU. Interestingly, they explained the "deferred" status, which is my current status. They said that they are taking "some" candidates from the list. It seems like they are being extra precautionary to ensure that they don't over-accept like last year. Based on my interview in January, my interviewer told me that this year's class size will be ~180.

As long as you accepted on medstar it's no big deal, just make sure your deposit is in before that date.

Paying this deposit isn't binding, is it?

If you aren't 100% sure you are going, don't pay it ... if May 15th comes around and you realize you are for sure going, then be sure to pay prior to the 15th. It won't affect your finaid or scholarships, etc.

For all of you that have interviewed or are interviewing, where did you stay and how did you get from airport-->hotel-->interview? Public transit seems... lacking.

I stayed at the Varsity Inn South. Super cheap, and about a 10 minute walk from your interview. From the airport it was $30+ but the airport isn't that close to campus. I had the hotel hold my suitcase during my interview, so they are really nice about that.

Why not stay w/ student hosts? it's not a problem to ask us to pick you up from the airport!

I have emailed twice for a student host and received no response. My interview is next Wednesday so I booked a hotel unfortunately :/

yea i had an email about 5 days before i was to fly out about a host

For some reason, it's been a bit hard for the student host coordinators to consistently get hosts... But, if you ask for a host, you WILL get one. If they can't find one, they just let you stay with them (they're usually med1's). They just try to get a volunteer before they commit to hosting themselves. We actually just received an email today for hosts to sign up for the next two weeks, so they're working on it, I promise.

I got an email saying that I have a host almost exactly when you posted this. haha AWESOME 🙂 So excited about this interview!! Thanks for your input.

Did anyone receive an admissions decisions today? I believe Dean Capers calls on Wednesdays if I'm not mistaken

no call over here either :/

I know it sucks, but there is still hope. There have been acceptances off the waitlist already this year, keep your heads up, guys!

No call on my end either. Did anyone get a call last night? I was sure that the acceptances got notified on Wednesday. I'm still sitting on pins and needles over here

I just called to move my 3/26 II to 3/5. The lady on the phone told me that 3/7 and 3/21 are also open. So OSU still have some II to give out it seems. Best of luck to those still waiting.

I wonder if they offered those earlier dates to people who later declined the invite. As such, the date is now open for you.
