2011-2012 PhD/PsyD Official Rejection thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
LOL at the fact it says Sunny Buffalo on page 1. Idk if I'd call Buffalo sunny... weather there is terrible.

Rejected from Marquette University via snail mail on 2/15/12.

Ha. I was wondering whether there were some other school system called SUNNY that also had a Buffalo. DanielaT's signature refers to a "SUNNY" as well... Regardless, Great Lakes weather has actually been kind of nice lately. Disturbingly nice.

Anyway, my latest rejection:
University of Massachusetts - Amherst - via email directing me to application website 2/15.

The word used for my status: "denied." lol.
I have seen "SUNNY" Buffalo show up on numerous threads. It's SUNY Buffalo. SUNY= state university of New York. Lol

Haha yea sorry that was a typo. And the "SUNY" I was referring to was the one in Albany. i.e. University at Albany. My bad, I didnt realize there were multiple Universities that use the "SUNY" abbreviation. Didnt mean to cause any confusion. But I fixed my signature so hopefully that is more clear now. 🙂

So I notice University of Virginia listed here. Anyone know if this is specific to the Curry School or non-Curry? I haven't gotten a rejection from them yet (for the non-Curry program), but I haven't gotten any interview invites (or any communication at all) from them either. Does this mean I still have hope? I haven't gotten any interview invites from any of my 12 schools, 10 of which have confirmed that all invitations have been sent out and there are no current plans for a second set of interviews, so I'm crossing my fingers for Virginia, but at the same time not holding my breath and looking forward to applying again next year. *sigh*

I applied to 9 schools, 2 rejections, and 3 have sent invites (1 waitlisted me), I am down to four so I am on my edge of my seat too. So don't worry too much I would say, I have read here that there are people that have applied sometimes 3 times. The only thing that is bugging me right now is that I am having trouble landing any type of jobs or RA positions with a BA in PSY. Anyone have any websites or suggestions? I've looked up things online but I think I have exhausted myself in finding any paid summer internships that have deadlines in these upcoming months.

I have been working as an RA for the past two years in an academic medical center, and when I was applying for RA positions my senior year, I sent out about 10 applications a day from January to April before I started hearing back from anyone. I think jobs tend to start the hiring process only a couple months before they need the position filled, so February may be a little early if you only graduate in May. Also, I highly recommend going to job recruitment fairs at your university--that's how I got hooked up with mine. I was able to hand my resume to the HR representative in person and he sent it to every psychology research lab in the hospital. It worked out much better than simply applying for openings posted on university or hospital websites, although those did get me a couple of interviews as well (2 interviews out of about 200 applications I submitted...). Good luck!

Are we allowed to do this? lol. I'll be leaving my position for school in several months. Check usajobs.gov for "research health science specialist," which is the govt's cute title for an RA. Sidenote: the secretary told me her position is called "keyboard specialist." Anyway, it's a sweet gig with good pay for the BA/BS (better with a master's, or if you can convince whoever interviews you of the value of your UG honors thesis 😉) and full bennies.

Good luck!

Thank you guys, I graduated this past December, so I am unable to go to any of my university's career fairs since my university is a couple of hours from where I am at. Although, I have been applying to a number of jobs, I only got as far as getting an RA interview with Harvard Medical School. It's pretty frustrating that I got an interview with them, but no one in my hometown's university is willing to give me a chance or even respond to my emails/return my calls. I am waiting to see if by the end of this week I don't get any interview invite from a program, I'll start applying to RA positions that my psychology undergrad advisor has been sending out. Thank you all for your advice though, I greatly appreciate it and I'll definitely check out some of the stuff you guys mentioned 👍

GWU-Psy.D. rejected via email on 2/21/12, but was asked if interested in M.A. Forensic Psychology program. It's a new program they are starting up in the Fall.

LHDMMD, I got that same e-mail. Does anyone know if that means we might be waitlisted at GWU PsyD?

Got waitlisted in the MA Clinical Program at UT-EP. E-mail sent 2/21, but letter dated 2/20 by Graduate Coordinator. -sigh-

2 rejections, 2 wait lists, 2 programs that have sent invites, and 3 programs I haven't heard a peep about (Colorado State, Iowa State, TTU HDFS).

Rejected 2/21: Fairleigh Dickinson University Clinical Psychology PhD (via Postal Service)

Did you interview? I haven't heard anything back yet and am taking that as bad news.

No I didn't get an interview there...I knew the letter was coming once I saw people posting about receiving interviews, only a matter of time

Anyone got rejected or waiting list from Penn?

It seems that they have extended the offers today.. I see 3 people were accepted in TGC but I didn't hear back from Penn yet..

This is so crazy.. They should at least send rejection e-mail today..
I am so anxious and sick and tired of wating for the results..

Thank you guys.

If you mean Penn State, I was rejected the other day via email.

I interviewed and didn't hear back either...
Sorry to hear about the rejection letters...
Has FDU started to notify applicants if they have been placed on their waitlist?
Does FDU send a letter via postal service to applicants if they are placed on their waitlist?
Just curious...

Hi all. Rejection from NYU Steinhardt today, 2/28, from the Director of Graduate Enrollment. I've got to say, granted I knew that it was coming, it was a particularly nice rejection.

Did you interview? I interviewed and was expecting to hear back last week. Still nothing- no acceptance, rejection, or wait list. I'm guessing rejection or wait list.

Hi there - Nope! No interview (which is why I knew it was coming). I've seen NYU rejections popping up sporadically, though for a week or so - I wonder what their process is. I can shed pretty much no substantiated light on your status, except that, I haven't seen anyone on this site, or TGC post about an offer of admission yet.

rejection email from DCT post-interview. At least anxiety went through acceptance and now became sadness.
Btw, hope that I can post on acceptance email soon.

Don't take it personal as this program is almost impossible to get into. They have a child development program in the Special Education Department that has a a family based focus with heavy autism focus. Research oriented though...I was accepted into that track years ago but I decided to go the School Psychology direction in a EdS program. Don't give up but clinical child psychology programs are very difficult to gain admitance. Many are going into PhD school psychology programs and doing a clinical child internship and postdoctoral and gaining licensure as a clinical psychologist via this route.

Do not listen to this person.

He or she has made a disturbing habit of posting false and misleading information on this forum. Yes, clinical child programs are competitive. Most solid programs are. That is NO reason to try to circumvent the process by going through school psych. School and child clinical programs are NOT the same. They involve different emphases and different trajectories. If you have an interest in pediatrics, for instance, a clinical child program is what you are seeking.

Best of luck to you all. :luck:

Official rejection from University of Oregon by personalized form e-mail. Not surprising as I did not interview.

This was for the Clinical Ph.D. program.

I second that school and child clinical programs are different. I was just accepted to a school psych program. I did not choose school psych as an ALTERNATIVE to clinical. If you want to work with children with developmental delays, learning disabilities, emotional issues, and behavioral problems in a school based setting you may want to consider school psych. Most clinical psych people are not going to work in the schools. However, with a PhD in school psych I could still work in a clinic, hospital, or residential setting. Technically I could even set up a private practice. School psych also focuses in on assessment of learning disabilities and emotional issues of childhood. These programs are also almost 100% child focused. Hope this helps explain some of the differences. PM me if you have more questions. 🙂

Rejected from Yale today. Not surprising as I did not interview. Email directing me to log into the website.

Has anyone gotten a rejection notice from PSU for school psych? I haven't heard either way, but I saw an acceptance posting. Not sure what to expect..

By the same token, I've seen Lehigh Counseling PhD acceptances, but no other Lehigh posts. Has anyone been notified about Lehigh with a waitlist or rejection?

Rejection from Sam Houston State Univeristy, Clinical Ph.D. via snail mail

You don't want to go to Sam Houston unless you want to work in corrections or forensic psychology. They mostly put out MA level students and they almost all work in corrections.

Nope, I interviewed at Lehigh and haven't heard anything at all from them. I would assume waitlist or rejection at this point.

Yeah, big bummer. I reallyyy thought they'd said they were letting everyone know their status regardless within a week. False memory!

Just got a rejection email from the Psych Department at University of Wisconsin Madison. Not suprising since I did not interview.
