2011-2012 Psychology PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My friend called FSU today and was told not all clinical invites have yet been extended. She was told that all would be sent by the end of the month. I guess this year was delayed by the deadline being pushed back?

Sorry to be this person, but could the person who posted the WVU invite on gradcafe PM me your POI? Thanks!

I received an email interview invite today from the chair of the graduate clinical admissions at Temple. The interview dates are January 27th and 30th (morning and afternoon sessions).

I just saw University of Washington pop up on gradcafe again. If any of you guys are also on SDN, would you mind PMing me your POIs? Also, I am curious if these are for the adult or child track?

Thanks!

I just noticed UW on gradcafe as well. Sorry for being that annoying person who spams the walls, but I'd also really appreciate it if anyone here who has been invited to interview at UW in the adult clinical track could PM me with his/her POI! Thanks!

University of Oregon, School Psychology PhD
Mass email from program director
Interview February 17th.

Yay!

Has anyone heard from:
University of Tennessee-Knoxville
University of Houston
Clark University
Auburn
Georgia State University
University of Washington (adult) -- or know if the child and adult tracks are the same?

Thanks!

I haven't heard from any of my 15 schools yet. So yesterday, when Hofstra called my phone, I got really excited. They needed the Psychology GRE scores that I already sent them when I took my exam. Disappointing.

Well, Hofstra has not started reviewing applications yet. They are checking to make sure they are all complete first.

(Commiserating below)
Then I started to triple-check my application status at schools, some of which are still too slow to update their websites.

Getting cranky...but it was nice to feel the excitement of a phone call. Hopefully my phone will ring with good news at some point over the next month.

Wanted to vent that...hang in there everyone. We're all in this together...at least we are for now!

On another note, if someone has heard from Catholic's Clinical Program, would you be willing to send me a private message with your Professor of Interest? Thanks!!

I'm wondering if anyone knows how much notice is typical when schools invite you for an interview. For schools that no one has heard from yet, is it likely that they would inform you of the interview less than 2 weeks prior? 1 week? I am asking because I am trying to plan a trip to see my long distance bf, but obviously don't want to plan a trip and buy tickets and then get an interview the same weekend. But, I also don't want to put my life on hold and not make any plans just based on the hope that i *might* get an interview. Trying to decide how long to wait. I would hope schools would give more than 1 weeks notice, but who knows.

Also here are the programs I applied to/ what I have heard regarding invites. Anyone else know anything about these?

Clinical:
LSU- 1 person recieved interview prior to deadline, so big chance there will be more coming soon
Virginia Commonwealth- Nothing yet
Florida state- Invites already sent
Central Florida- Invites already sent
U Houston- Nothing yet

Counseling:
University of Oregon- Invites already sent (I got the waitlist/ alternate email)
Washington State University- Nothing yet

Hi there! I honestly DID put my life on hold for the months of February-March. That's pretty much the price you have to pay and a lot of my personal stuff could wait for a couple of months. That being said, I also completely understand the need to see your long distance significant other 😍 My suggestion: Call the departments of your schools and ask them straight up about their interview days. That way, you can plan around the maybe-going-to-be-on-an-interview weekends and plan to fly out on a weekend when you know for sure that there will not be an interview just to be safe. If, after making all the calls you don't see an opening for yourself, maybe weigh out which schools are most likely to call you... just a suggestion! Good luck 🙂

We must have really similar research interest or something because we have the first four schools you listed in common.

I haven't heard from Knoxville yet and I'm getting worried because I love that school and they are late by last years standards.
Houston probably wont be for a while since they sent out invites in the first week of February last year. I'm not worrying about them yet.
I was told that faculty at Clark reviews applications together in a group and that doesn't happen until mid- to late January. So keep your eye's on your email, but don't sweat it yet.
As for Auburn, I can't say I've heard anything yet either. Their interview day is the 25 of Feb and I can't imagine them giving us more than a months notice. I'm going to venture a guess that they will notify us in about a week or so...but that's just a guess.

If anyone has the gumption to call Auburn or Tennessee - Knoxville, I'd love knowing what the deal is with these two schools.

Does anyone know the status of these schools/whether all invites have been extended?

I saw on TGC that someone got an interview for Columbia, however it only said PhD in Psychology. Can anyone confirm this and if so, which school or program??

I called Ohio U secretary and she said that invites are being extended as they are handed to her to email to applicants. Considering the interview dates, I think invites will have to be out by the end of next week.

Any other word about Pitt invites? I just saw the one (or two?) in the list.

Also heard from U of Miami (Counseling)
Email from the director of training
Sent on Jan 18
Interview begins Feb 16

So excited! 🙂

So i broke down and called some schools and got some info: (have not gotten any communication from any POI, DCT, or anyone at these schools) (If anyone has more concrete information than this, please PM me or post on the board) :

Emory - People should hear from their POI by this week. Interview Feb 4th
Virginia (not curry) - People should hear from their POI by this week or the next. Interview first or second weekend of February
North Texas - People should hear from their POI by this week or the next. Interview Feb. 27th

Wondering if anyone has any interview information at all on South Florida, Maryland, UNC Greensboro, or Binghamton?

I'm not sure if this helps with your question, but I got an invite to interview for the Law/Psych program on 1/13. Best of luck!
This is helpful, but less promising for me. lol. Congrats on your interview! Which program did you apply for - clinical?

I'm wondering about this too.

Also, I just noticed that a pre-interview was scheduled a week ago for Rutgers' Clinical Ph.D. program. Would whoever posted that on TGC mind PM-ing me their POI?

I saw this too and would love confirmation!

And, again, a desperate attempt to ask the person who heard from UT Austin to PM me with their POI, if you wouldn't mind?

I would like to know the POI of the person with the pre-interview for Rutgers as well. Thanks so much!

I applied to George Mason. From what I've heard (only from 1 person) they have already sent out invites. The interview is scheduled for 2/4 & 2/5 so I'm pretty sure we would have heard by now. Really disappointing, definitely my top choice.

Dr. Esposito-Smyther wasn't accepting a student this year, I had emailed her before the applications to find out because I wanted to work with her as well

I have a question to those who have emailed POIs: When you inquire about whether they have already extended their invites, how to do you phrase your emails? I am extremely concerned that it may make me look bad.
I've called the department but the secretary doesn't know who has and hasn't extended invites yet.
I don't think I'm not going to get an interview just because I email them but I'm afraid if I do get an interview, there may be a negative connotation.

Thanks!

Anyone who's interested in University of South Florida:
After talking with my POI (yay!), admissions meeting will happen early/mid next week. Interview invites will follow shortly after. Dates of interview - 2/10 or 2/24.

FYI for those that were waiting...it's coming around the corner!

By the way, did anybody apply to UCSD/SDSU's JDP program? I was hoping to find out when their interview dates were...I know they were still reviewing applications last week, but I was just hoping to find out about the interview dates.

Personally I would refrain from contacting POI's directly about this. I think that technically the mature and professional thing to do is to wait until you hear something, or at least to patiently wait until the the prime invitiation season is basically over (which it won't be til at least early February).

Now don't get me wrong, I check this thread about 10 times a day, and ask for hints from the admissions staff as much as anyone! But I think it's best to present a polite fiction of patience to the POI's.

Does anyone else have more info to weigh in on this?

I completely agree. Be patient! We're all stressed and anxious but harassing the POI is not going to help. They will contact you if they want to interview you. It might be today, it might be next week, it might be in March. Do everything you can to de-stress and be patient!

Just got an email to interview at university of Nevada, Las Vegas. Interview day is Friday, February 17th.

Well, I do agree. You are probably right and emailing probably won't do anything. But.. I was wondering how those who contacted their POI worded them? Whether or not I email them is yet to be decided 🙂

Er, not trying to be argumentative, just want to make sure you understood my point- It's not just that it won't change the process for the better, because believe me, they know that you really want to go there if you spent all the time and money to apply. But I think it may actually annoy them that you aren't willing to follow the formal procedure that they have set up. Will that get you crossed off an invite list that you were already on? No. But what if you were on the fence, or if you missed the first round of interviews but were still under consideration for a second round? Any little thing could make a difference.

Of course, I'm sure individual POI's vary a lot on their feelings about this. There are probably some that would love to hear from you, so if you get that vibe from your POI then don't listen to me.

But I just hope that everyone remembers that classic delayed gratification study: The little children that can wait for the marshmallow end up being more successful in life! Professors know this; what kind of message do you want to send to them?

Hello everyone,

I am writing this post with somewhat of a cathartic purpose, as much for you as for myself. I'm sure like me, you've been watching the recent interviews thread on SDN and TGC like a hawk. I'd also guess like me, you've been experiencing some extreme emotional highs and lows the last few days as you've heard or not heard from your schools.

I just wanted to tell those of you in my situation that upon reviewing some of the dates from the interviews I have received, it seems there is quite a variety in when they are sent out. Better put, I've noticed that the dates posted on TGC as interview received tended NOT to overlap with when I received these emails (in fact, sometimes they were off by up to 10 days). Why am I telling you this? Because I don't want anyone else to needless suffer should you see your top school having sent out interviews to someone on TGC....it seems by in large this process is by PI, not by the full program. I'm guessing many of you out there already know this, which is why you've been PM'ing each other POIs, but just wanted to let others be aware of this.

The past six months have been stressful enough on all of us, no need to add it. Best of luck to you all.
